Heel Slider | Knee Pain Exercise

This is one of the rehab exercises I give my knee patients, especially if they've just had a knee surgery.
It's a super simple, easy way to strengthen your knee and leg, even though you're not weight-bearing yet.
It requires a furniture slider -- easily found on Amazon or a home improvement store -- when used on carpet/rug, but on hardwood floors or tile, you can use a piece of felt or other fabric.
Anything that slides easily on your floor will work.
My instructions for patients:
- Sit toward the front of your seat, so your leg can move freely
- put your heel in the middle of the slider
- bend & straighten the knee
- I prescribe at least 15 minutes per day, but more is better!
This is great when combined with other things you're already doing -- sitting at your desk, laying on the sofa, etc.
Hope this helps!

I just shared this with my friend Kylie, who is battling bone cancer and wearing two different braces. This might be something she can use to help rehab from her femur surgeries. Thank you!

Hi Doc. My hips are always aching and my right knee has sharp pains on stairs or inclines. I decided to use your knee slides to rehab my knee. But wow, my hip and knee are both feeling this. Do you think this will improve my hip pain as well? Or will the motion cause damage to my hips?
