HEDINGHAM CASTLE - England's Best Preserved Norman Keep!

The stone keep at Hedingham is arguably the best preserved Norman keep in England. It was constructed around 1141 by the De Veres, who had been awarded the land by William the Conqueror and who went on to be given the title Earls of Oxford. The keep owes its remarkable preservation to the little military action it saw, being attacked only once by King John. The 13th Earl, John de Vere, was commander of Henry Tudor's army at the Battle of Bosworth.

The current owners have done an incredible job restoring the keep to its former glory and it's well worth a visit. The keep is also available to hire for weddings, with the top floor of the keep currently being transformed into accommodation so you can also stay overnight!

The White Tower has been much altered, so has Dover's huge Keep, I would suggest Conisbrough is up there along with Orford with the lease altered and best in England. Rochester at 113ft, with none of floors intact, must be considered.

Yay! a new video thank you for posting. I have visited this castle with friends from university, 6 years ago. On our way back to our hotel, we saw an apparition in the nearby town of Sible Hedingham. This has been listed in the UK paranormal data base ^^

Wow that castle looks unusually tall. I thought it would be really dark inside, cause the windows are so small, but it didn't look dark when you guys were in it.Love the castle , you always do such a great job of giving us the history.Great video, looking forward to the next one!!

I understand that they need to make money to keep this place running but I wish there were less weddings and more opening times.Still a great place to visit if you can get there.

Wonderful place, and nice part of the country too. Hats off to the owners, they've done the majority of the castle and house restoration work themselves!

A lot of talk about how beautiful it is. But it's actually an ugly building really I think from the outside.
