That started when he was young. He admitted to never seeing a doctor, and even said he would have to collapse before he saw a doctor. He was in severe severe pain all over his body and back for years, but still forcing himself to go real heavy on deadlifts and squats. He said at the end he could barely walk in the gym. That's when he went to the doctor and needed his first surgery, and he was still was relatively young then. That compounded on many others. The doctors messed up, and Ronnie continued being stubborn for years, and 15 surgeries plus is the result. Unfortunately he had some bad luck for it to get that bad though. Lifting heavy is actually good for the body as we age, but one rep maxes do us no good. We have to be smart about going heavy.

@@prAna530 Well there are definitely more impressive feats in lifting, but it depends on the person and what kind of things impress you. Some like one rep maxes, others like rep work. Some prefer barbell work, some powerlifting, others just regular lifts. To me it's a combination of everything. Everyone's different. You specifically should watch Larry Wheels do the 200's on incline a few years ago with NDO. He hits it for 12 very very clean reps with good control. That likely would be the most impressive feat to you. It blows Ronnies out of the water. Incline bench is considerably harder. 20%-25% harder on average. I guess that we all have our choices to make on how we live our lives. 40 years of hard training has taken its toll on me. I've done 2 cycles of steroids in my life that were 6 weeks long each. That was in my early 20s. I train hard because of the pure love of the sport. I competed in drug free powerlifting in my 30s in the ADFPF powerlifting federation. Nowadays its all about cardio, higher reps, and core. I'm beat up and have had 1 back surgery and have had other injuries along the way. Heavyweights end up wrecking your body!!!!! You can gain nice size by utilizing various bodybuilding principles, proper nutrition and rest, and staying away from the drugs. I guess I prefer to weightlift and be involved in fitness till I die. Good luck 👍
