Heavily Played 1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom "Silverburst" Review + Demo
Музыка
This Silverburst is no stranger to the bar scene. The lacquer has ambered so much, its hard to even call it a silverburst now. It's more of a gold burst! Pretty much everything has been replaced, but man, this thing is a real player. Adam Jones from Tool would be proud of this guitar! Seymour Duncan JB and 59 pickups in this one!

I feel bad for the guy who had to sell this guitar
@eliju420
4 жыл бұрын
I sold my 81 silver burst back in 2010. It was all original with Shaw's and the only real wear and tear was on the back. I needed the money and looking back the money didn't really help me that much at the time. Biggest regret ever.

@@liquor8396 it had to be his number one, if you going to play enough to wear the guitar like that, there's no way you can be playing a bunch of other guitars too. Even in a guitar over 30 years old, I've never seen so much neck wear that it's s been worn down to the bare wood, and even worn into it.

7:58 John Birch from the Boothill Band style smokey bars LP headstock. I read he played in every biker bar around (eg Honkey Tonk Saloon in Spartanburg SC.) and the guitar (a 1990 LP Standard Lemon Burst) ended up being pawned.
If it was the guy's #1 you should tell him he could always buy it back. Had a buddy do that for me when I was in a pinch and will always be forever grateful

Whenever you sell a guitar to a buddy, always agree on “first right of refusal” . Meaning: if you sell a beloved guitar to a friend, and he decides he then wants to sell it, he has to offer to sell it back to you first. If you “refuse” , he’s free to sell it. Everybody stays friends 👊🏻

Let's all have a moment of silence for the poor dude that couldn't let go of his number one guitar. :'(
Wow what a beauty, everything about this guitar is lovely. The body colour, the dings, the scrapes the discoloration, the ageing there is nothing 'disgusting' about any part of this guitar, it's beautiful, would love it!

I recently bought a used les paul traditional, 2012 model, no idea what the backstory was, really played in. All sorts of dings, checking, belt rash, scratches, worn to the wood in places, magic!!! Tells its own story. Previous owner need not worry, the guitar is loved and played by me now. Thankyou whoever you are, your amazing battle worn les paul rocks on!
my favorite pickup combo on earth,i would rock the hell outta that guitar
I don't know about anyone else, but Silverburst Les Pauls are probably my favorite guitars.
I own a 1979 Gibson Les paul Silver Burst, it is all original pick ups and all. I could never imagine letting is go, I purchased it 17 years ago.
When I was a teenager, a friend of my step-dad's let me borrow a guitar exactly like this. It actually looked like it could be the exact same guitar as far as I can remember. The reason the back of his guitar looked like this one does is because he left it on the roof of his truck and forgot to move it before he drove away, and it slid into the bed of the truck. It baffled me that he would let a kid borrow a real Gibson, but I played it for a couple of weeks. That's how I fell in love with Les Pauls.
Man you've come a long way. Your love for this instrument shows the great things to come
One of coolest les Paul’s I’ve seen, the wear and colour is amazing!

Your right, that guitar IS magical, just fantastic....
Fell on black days. Gorgeous guitar!
That guitar is gorgeous!
I have a 1964 Harmony H-19 (They were a black burst to red stain finish) that had a similar haze to the finish on this one. I've had it since 1998 and am the second owner of it. I recently gave it a cleaning, and decided to try to give the finish a deep cleaning and get that haze off. I actually had to use cutting compound to clean it off, then follow up with polishing compound to bring it back to a super gloss. It left many paper towels with a nice brown/orange mess, must have seen a lot of smoke throughout it's life. Now it's super clean, and I'm not sure if it's just me, but I swear it made all of the finish checking more visible, which is fine by me, because it's checked beautifully over the years.
Stellar playing, I wish you played like that in your current videos.
I love them type of guitars, especially the 79-81 models
Man I actually really liked this thing. I bet it went to a good home, the person that appreciated this one.
That's what's called a 79 custom "ratical".that baby's bad to the bone.that's been hammered!I dig it!

You can tell by looking at that guitar that it has stories to tell
For a well played 40 year old guitar, this one is very cool. I'd love to play it.
Wow.. I'm in love I had no idea this would happen to a silver burst..
Friend of mine had a silverburst LP custom that yellowed but not that bad. I refinished it for him in red and it turned out beautiful. Looked like a new guitar. I always liked the chrome hardware as the gold always seemed to wear through.
I love that finish.
That amp, man... you never got another one as good as this Gibson amp, in my opinion. Revisiting your old videos is quite fun.
I love stage 3 when it's unmodified especially the binding and neck ware

Ya know, as I'm watching your video, and I'm seeing the guitar in your hands, as you tell the story where the seller "accidentally" does whatever, I'm thinking 'no way he got the guitar (then having to remind myself that I'm watching you with the guitar in your hands) definitely a suspenseful story. I'm glad you got it though. I think it's beautiful
From how you describe this guitar, you should keep it. It sounds like you truly love this guitar. It's an awesome looking guitar.
God, I love this guitar
I don't think I knew your channel when this was uploaded awesome guitar.I think one this road worn is great because it usually means the guitar is probably someone's number one and so good a player its used for so many years.which is obviously the case this thing sounds incredible!!
That guitar is epic!!!
It looks rough but sounds sooooo sweet!!
I love this one. So much playing wear, definitely a road warrior. It's perfect just the way it is! Sounds awesome! The guy backed out twice, so he really had second thoughts w/selling. It's almost sad..it is sad. I hope the new owner appreciates what he or she has.
I hope it finds its way back to the previous owner oneday
This guitar is perfect.
Thats one of the most beautiful les pauls!
That is worth a shedload more because of the relicing !
the sustain on these things is unbelievable.
My god it has such an insane amount of mid-range punch
I have an '83 just like it that I bought brand new. Mine is not quite as beat up but I did play it for many years in bars so it is the same color now.
Tis is beautiful, hope the dude is reunited with it one day
Guitars today will probably never get this level of patina on them again. No more smokey bars.
I’d love to hear the back story of the guy that put all the wear on that thing. He must have been pretty good to get all that work through all those years.

@trogly you stated in this video that you cannot reproduce the aged wear on the guitar. After reviewing the new custom shops like the slash double neck, do you still feel this way? Thanks!
Beautiful guitar. I wonder if the previous owner was heavily into Tool since, as you mentioned, Adam Jones has at least one 1979 model. That and it is widely rumored that he runs a JB in the bridge position. Edit* I should've waited to comment until the end. You mentioned exactly what I was talking about. Lol

Yep Wargasm is right, it's a buyer's market right now. Lots of guys who had bar bands that supplemented their income have nowhere to play, and are selling off equipment by the boatload. Craigslist.com and ebay.com are flooded with great guitars at big discounts right now.

Dude, that aged yellowing look is relicing at its best. The best relic work is to just play the hell out of it yourself
Switch this to black and white while taking a picture of this guitar. Then it’ll be the real Silverburst.
When I wrote the lines below I didn’t realise the video was made long before the pandemic. However, when we buy our guitars, we know if they’re going to be WORKED or WORSHIPPED. So a Worked guitar is going to end up like this, the Worshipped, more or less immaculate. It’d be great for Trogly to contact the previous owner to get the full story.
I get a little that-70s-show-Kelso vibe when this guy speaks sometimes.

This the kind of guitar once ya finished playing you smile but yeah I would not advise smelling your hands after 🤣
I absolutely love this guitar. I want it. And i got the cash!
I totally agree....you can't replicate genuine age and wear. Fender do an OK job at it with their Custom Shop relics but they are just that 'OK' they have a style to them that just says Fender did this, next to a real worn instrument the detail simply isn't there. I've never had an artificially aged Gibson so I can't really comment on those. Great vid as always!
Looks like epiphones vintage sunburst
Another maple neck survives (war zones, by the look of things). I love maple neck LP's.
How does a truss rod cover get “worn”?
