Heat Recovery Wheels Dehumidify?

See all my HVAC Webinars at: 👉 insightpartners.lpages.co/👈
Energy recovery wheels are commonly applied to HVAC systems with the intent of saving energy. Some believe that the addition of an energy recovery ventilator will protect the conditioned space from high humidity at part load.
In this video, we look at an AC system with a rotary wheel heat exchanger and simulate space conditions at part load. ERV’s can be used to recover energy from the exhaust stream but do little to protect us from higher dew point levels at off peak conditions.
Other terms for heat recover wheels: rotary wheel heat exchanger, total enthalpy wheels, ERU, energy recovery unit.

We have AAON units that have heat wheels that need replacement. They are going to cost about $16k each for replacement for parts and labor. Do they have enough benefits to justify spending that much for replacement?

Thanks for the comment David. The answer would depend on several factors. Your local AAON rep should be able to walk you through the pros and cons.
