I think you're great. Hope that is all mine needs. MERRY Christmas. My outside unit is also not working. I can't get it looked at today. The thermostat said it was on emergency heat but the out side unit is not coming on and I have no heat. I turned the unit off completely and went to work. Hoping to get somebody by to check it in the next couple days I checked the breakers. What else might it be? It was running yesterday fine. My heat pump is not quite four years old.

Thank you so much for ur help. Now, what is a "high pressure lockout"? Thats a code I am getting from my defrost board. And could a defective thermostat caused the defrost board to show this code? My heat pump board is currently showing this code. The OUTDOOR unit DOES NOT, start up at all, in the heating or cooling mode. There is 24v on the R and C terminals. In the "emergency" mode, I am not getting enough heat. It only heats up to 72degrees only, and runs all night. And never shuts off. This is a RHEEM system. 6yrs old. I am really frustrated, because i am having all these issues at the same time. I am thinking the thermostat is mal functioning, then I think its the defrost board. then i think the heat strips has issues. I am a wreck with these issues. The indoor unit runs fine, but NOTHING from the OUT DOOR UNIT. I just can't figure it out. Hope you or any other can assist me. thnx.

If you’re getting a high pressure lockout it’s not an issue with the thermostat. This occurs when your refrigerant pressure gets too high. This situation will cause the high pressure switch to shut off the system. When this happens multiple times the board will then lock out the unit preventing the unit to run. This can be reset if you remove 24v but it’s possible it will just happen again. You will need to contact your local HVAC company to diagnose the problem as it could be a refrigerant based issue which requires a licensed certified technician.

Mine won't come on in heat mode either, but the ac works. Could it still be a contactor?

I am confused. at 1:40 you said that you were "going to kill the power". BUT THEN YOU SAID that you testing the coil and YOU GOT 26v. you, loose me there. How could you get 26v IF THERE IS NOT POWER? Is there Low voltage on the coil, from the indoor unit, still avail. on the contactor, after the out door unit is "killed"? Please explain. thnx,

I removed high voltage from the out door unit. The 24v is supplied by the transformer in the indoor unit.

thnx for clearing this up. So there is low voltage still on the coil of the contactor, even though the OUT DOOR unit has not power. Thanks again. i understand now. Hey, one more thing, please, could you say why a heat pump system, with electric heat strips is NOT turning on the OUT DOOR UNIT, when the thermostat is in the heat mode? The indoor unit however, comes on and runs ok, and blows warm air to the apt. BUT, the out door unit does not comes on at all. thnx.@@NighthawkHVAC

Could be a cold weather lockout. If it’s below a certain point outside the outdoor unit will not run. If that’s not the case could be a low voltage or high voltage problem.

Thanks for ur info. I checked. And, there is 24v going to the defrost board, but NO VOLTAGE at all going to the contactor coil from the defrost board. So, I am thinking the defrost board is defective here. Do you think there could be something else, that may be the cause? I am in Orlando, and the temp. so far has not gotten to below 40 degree as yet. Thnx again.@@NighthawkHVAC

If you have low voltage going in to the board but now to the contractor. You may want to verify none of the pressure switches are tripped. If one of the safeties are tripped, they will prevent low voltage from going to the contractor coil. If they are tripped you may have a refrigeration issue.

I’ll show the HVAC guy this video because they’ve had three out to my house and the morons still don’t know how to fix it
