THANK YOU. I haven't seen many people talking about this aspect of it. Diving deeper, queerbaiting is a marketing tool used to lure a queer audience without actually making the characters queer. But this is a queer coming-of-age story with many queer characters and actors. It's literally the A plot, the B plot, _and_ the C plot. Queerbaiting should _never_ be applied to real people. I find the fact that they were using that word and harassing him about his sexuality pretty disgusting actually.

People DESPERATELY need to read the definition of a word before they use it. ‘Queerbaiting’ is a media-related term. It is the purposeful misdirection of the creator/publicity team behind a FICTIONAL work of media to draw in queer viewers while not alienating queerphobic ones. REAL PEOPLE CANNOT QUEERBAIT. While it is important to have visibly queer celebrities, that doesn’t mean celebrities aren’t entitled to come out on their own terms, like anybody else. It is especially sad that this is coming from viewers of a tv show that is LITERALLY ABOUT the impact of a teenager being outed against his will. I hope the people who were pressuring Kit feel awful and that this is a wakeup call for them.

17 years ago I was rounded upon by a female colleague who told me that the rest of the office - I was one of only two men among twenty women - thought I'd be happier if I came out to everyone. I was incensed when I was confronted by this and explained, very patiently, through gritted teeth, that I didn't come to work to have sex and my sexuality had nothing to do with my job consequently. The worse thing was I was told matter of factly that everyone 'knew' but if I wanted to suffer in silence that was my decision and that my wish to stay closeted would be communicated to everyone else. I reiterated that it wasn't anyone's business and I wasn't making it hard for myself as it was a non issue; I later found that nobody really 'knew' because mostly nobody cared but the three women in the office who had a history of sleeping with male co-workers but since I hadn't shown any interest in them when I joined the team, I was obviously gay. Yes, I was gay but what did that matter. I was so annoyed I threatened to complain about this passive aggressive harassment; the provocative bullying started after that. Which continued for weeks until I snapped back one day - which was their strategy - and a grievance was made against me, and I lost my job. Later, I was prevented from taking up my next job because the reference I got back from my previous employer said I was a sexual aggressor in the work place. Things have moved on since but then my complaints and legal action afterwards came to nothing; I fought hard to reclaim my good reputation but three crying women swayed the opinion more than my solitary 'gay' voice. Now we have social media, and that doesn't solve the situation, usually, but it does communicate it, to warn others. And we can draw strength from helping those who have been isolated and then bullied to outburst - there's remedy in sharing stories.

@@marthedreamer7629 Thank you. It still hurts to think about it at times but I'm the better person because I did the right thing; I went to work not to be a source of worry and anxiety. And their lying was eventually exposed when I reported it through a complaint after the fact; they were themselves disciplined and have never been promoted to management positions since because they were, and are, deemed a liability that could cost their employer too much if they repeated their activities with others in the future - they can never escape the people they are and always will be. Thank you again for your kind words and I hope, if anything, my story inspires people, in similar situations, not to suffer in silence; it doesn't hurt to diary these instances of bullying and report it confidentially - that's the lasting lesson I learnt. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but useless in changing the past and its mistakes.

I’m really disappointed in our community for forcing someone to come out like this. People can’t queerbait, media can. Let’s not mix the two things. I’m sorry kit had to come out when he wasn’t ready to. No one should ever have to face that. It’s no one’s business someone’s sexuality. I just wish people learned more from the show and took away more things before cancelling a person for queer baiting. People Can’t Queerbait. No one owes anyone their sexuality. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Nobody should be forced to speak out publicly about their sexuality. We should all assume that each of us has our own identity and taste in sex / love and that there is quite a wide range of nuances to this. Human beings are complex creatures, this complexity is what makes us capable of writing poetry, creating music, painting pictures, feeling so many different emotions. Some people are straight, some are not. And that's that. It has always been and always will be. Peace and love. And treat people with kindness.

I have a pride ring that I wear 24/7, and in general I don't mind people asking about it, but what kind of answer I give depends on who you are, what kind of setting we're in, and how I'm feeling in general. I had a coworker who asked about it one evening during a break, and I gave him a vague answer because I was tired, it was a long shift, I didn't know him overly well, and in the past he'd had a history of saying some fairly blunt, off putting, judgmental things, and I didn't have the energy to either educate him on my orientation or fend off idiotic comments. He kept pushing it, though, and eventually I told him just to get him to leave it alone. It's so irritating how entitled some people feel to private information about others in general. You aren't owed any information about anyone, but especially people you aren't close with.

Hes totally right about labels, most labels are just there for others to define/catagorise us based on their understanding of the term. If you're comfortable in who you are, you can label yourself or not, its irrelevant what you do, so long as you do it for yourself and no one else. A sad truth of society today is that it will always seek to understand, define and name everything, even sexuality. X

Apart from the point that it‘s just ridiculous how so many people are interested/obsessed about the private life of a person they will never know personally (like, you will never know who they really are) - When I read the comments in shorts like this one… He was literally never forced to come out. Like no one has to justify themself in situations like this. As if people had hold a gun in front of him. It was 2022 and while some things get better these days, it‘s the hard truth that there are many rude and insensitive people. And you will be confronted with their stupid opinions even more when you‘re famous. This hasn‘t changed and people lose a lot of energy feeling angry with things like that. Personally I just wish him and other people lots of confidence and self-love so they don‘t give into the energy of pitiful people.

Public figures need to draw a line between their public and private lives....the public pay for a performance they should not be encouraged to demand more. You play a great gay role and your an amazing actor, but you deserve to enjoy your life and success when and how you chose to live privately.... I was very vocal over Liberace's fans wanting to slur the entertainer, over what they do privately, their show admission they brought did not buy them access to the performers life.
