    I just had a mechanical valve replacement 2 months ago. I chose that over the tissue valve since a tissue one was only going to last 10 years. Since I’m 55 years old.... I didn’t want to have another surgery in 10 years. I was only in the hospital for five days after the surgery. And I’m starting cardiac rehab in two days. Everything went well with my surgery!!!!!

    Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Were you diagnosed a long time before you needed surgery? I'm 64 and was told my stenosis is moderate. I've also had a heart murmur that I was told was benign since my 20's. I have almost no symptoms just had a bit of slight slight pressure in my chest a few times. I feel fortunate the doctor suggested an echo cardiogram as a "baseline" and was a bit surprised with results. I now am seeing a cardiologist. He told me based on my echo and listening to my heart that his guess is I have a year or two before needing a valve.

    @@jefjefjef hi thanks for asking. Recently had yearly echo and now Borderline severe. Saw a cardiac surgeon and he said I’m not bad enough to have surgery as I also still have no symptoms. Said because of my age and that I’m otherwise in great health, he would only recommend a pig valve not tavr- which is what I had hoped for. TAVR sounded so much less invasive than open heart.

    I have a aortic stenosis and a very high percentage blockage on 3 heart arteries. I have decided to let nature take it's course because I believe I have a better existence just beyond the veil. As much as I will miss my friends and relies here, I also care for the grief of loved ones that will miss me in this material world. Meeting with my family and friends on the other side is highly engaging. I am not religious, I am spiritual. I am excited to reunite with my higher spirit family and will not deviate from my path. Wishing each and everyone of you a blessed path while being mindful, centered and full in self awareness at the trailing end of this life's journey. May you live long and prosper. Hi David, I need please your experience as I'm 36 Years old man, Diagnosed with severe aortis Stenosis due to heavy calcification plus congenital bicuspid aortic valve, also now I have regurgitation in the aortic and mitral valves, now i get symptoms of light headed, diziness, mild chest pain, mild shoulder pain, i was called by the public system ( a senior registral ) does the operation to do the operation just before Easter 2017 but I wasn't ready as a doctor told me that it is better to do the surgery by a catheter ( TAVI ) and to wait for the private health insurance sorted which sould take another 10 months ( The only difference that the I can choose the surgeon that I like to do the surgery ) as I live in Australia. so my question is Have you done yours through TAVI or just conventional open heart surgery? do you think is it better to do it ASAP or it doesn't matter also does it make difference to do it in summer or winter? did you get a tissue valve or a mechanical one? I asked you because you have similar circumstances Thanks for your time , Bassem

  • @craigimberi8179

    @craigimberi8179

    depends on your age and the state of your health prior to surgery. My husband was released from the hospital after having only 4 nights, he was admitted on Monday,surgery on Tuesday and home on Friday. So, only 4 nights in the hospital for him. It went in his favor how young and fit he was prior to surgery. 10 days after surgery we were walking 1.5 miles per day while he pushed a 24 month old in a stroller the entire way. he was not a smoker and had never smoked, and was quite thin...6'1 and 165 pounds. The longest to heal would be the sternum which they saw in half and then use wire to pull the 2 sides back together and twist the wire. Kinda like heavy bread twist ties. Those wires stay in forever...on a thinner guy like my husband he has one wire that really hurts if you touch on it too hard..Make sure to not be a fat,smoking, couch potato..makes all the difference.

    I was just diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis and it troubles me that I had to do my own homework on what this is because my doctors has told me absolutely no-then but told me not to worry about it because its mild Narrowing. OK but what will be done about it. They gave no comment. I have been floating as tho I'm going to pass out. I told the doctor and she said just go lay down and elevate my legs then monitor my blood pressure. That was it. What do I need to do about this ?

    Not all patients that have aortic valve stenosis require valve replacement. There’s different degrees of it. Typically includes shortness of breath, swelling, chest tightness, and chest pain. Aortic Valve stenosis is quite common and is normal part of the aging process. Do what the doctor says, Keep blood pressure low, and legs elevated because when you legs are in dependent position, the heart works much harder. You probably just have a mild form of it which doesn’t require any surgical intervention at this time. Make sure you get your physicals done every year.

    I have stenosis for over 15 years. They keep monitoring every 2 years. With an echo they can see the bloodflow speed, the surface area and the backflow. Nothing to worry about. When the day comes you will have options to live a long life.

    Hi , I need please your experience as I'm 36 Years old man, Diagnosed with severe aortis Stenosis due to heavy calcification plus congenital bicuspid aortic valve, also now I have regurgitation in the aortic and mitral valves, now i get symptoms of light headed, diziness, mild chest pain, mild shoulder pain, i was called by the public system ( a senior registral ) does the operation to do the operation just before Easter 2017 but I wasn't ready as a doctor told me that it is better to do the surgery by a catheter ( TAVI ) and to wait for the private health insurance sorted which sould take another 10 months ( The only difference that the I can choose the surgeon that I like to do the surgery ) as I live in Australia. so my question can I do my surgery through TAVI or just conventional open heart surgery? do you think is it better to do it ASAP or it doesn't matter also does it make difference to do it in summer or winter? Thanks for your time , Bassem

    @@bryanjary9691 Hi mate. I'm about to have valve replacement surgery next week. I am 54 and leaning towards the mechanical valve option. Can you tell me please how loud is the sound that people hear and if managing warfarin tablets and blood tests have led to a major change in lifestyle? Thank you.

  • @craigimberi8179

    My husband had an aortic valve replacement at age 38. He had open heart surgery The murmur was discovered at about age 12 during a sports physical, the dr. said the only thing to do at that time was to lead a quiet life and not stress the heart by playing sports. That was in 1969. My husband did all sports and was good at them. He never felt bad until late 1994 when he was getting bronchitis constantly and started to need naps and got tired easily. So, he has done great since 1995. He has a yearly echo and dr visit, he has to take coumadin..that is a pain in the butt. This metal valve will last his entire life. They would not do a pig valve as they only last 5 years in a man as young as my husband. he got a metal St Jude's valve. This valve will extend your life..so you will not die any sooner. Obviously, you will eventually die of something..car crash, heart attack, drug overdose. My husband was told his heart could easily last til he is 80 as he is now. Indefinitely would be a good answer.Obviously if you have the surgery when you are 80 you will live shorter than a person who has it done at age 35.
