My first try at Heart of the Swarm Nightmare Difficulty StarCraft 2 Campaign created by Rhyme! I actually didn't like the original HotS campaign much because it was too easy and too Diablo-esque mechanics. I've been told this Nighmare Difficulty mod will change my mind though - can't wait!

    ah yes the crucible. the mission that was so hard that it had to be nerfed. Swarmhosts received a baseline buff in getting burrow by default (used to be one of the 3 mustations, but as without burrow the hosts were just straight bad and locusts would get stuck on the swarmhosts and spend half their timed life duration figuring out how to get to the frontline) otherthan that the unit is pretty much the same as in base hots. regarding viscious glaive for mutalisks: it actually only adds a total of 4 damage to mutalisk attacks (if there is no armor involved). muta glaives in campaign are a bit stronger than in multiplayer still, doing 9/5/3 and the additional bounces doing 2/1/1 damage if there are enough targets. the increased range for the bounce is nice but generally it is considered worse than rapid regeneration. keep in mind that 10 seconds in game are ~7.1 real seconds as the game plays in 1.4x speed. anyway great job for beating this mission. I remember watching winter doing the pre nerfed version and sitting on it for around 10 hours worth of trying to figure out how to win.

    Nice job pig. Took me like 8 hours to beat this one. I consider this to be the hardest HOTS nightmare mission so hopefully the rest of the campaign will be smoother for you.

    You made your life so much harder by not having a muta strike force to deal with the bonus objective, the guardians and maybe the primal hives (not sure how they'd do there) but I'll admit I didn't think of the burrowed roaches idea that was pretty smart!

    Mutas can do it. The way I did it was ling with carapace upgrades going and muta attack up grades at the start. I would then build evo spine spore at my entrances and then hit a decent muta count, followed by increase swarm host count while adding overseers to heal mutas, and finally full on muta replacement with a high overseer count. parabombs were not an issue. The mutas took care of the wardens, the bonus objective, and would help out in all fights. I choose them for their mobility because of crappy terrain layout. I would say it was a moderately difficult hold. Pure ground didn't have the mobility i needed.

    As for the last part Pig said about mission design, it might be obvious but if you go a much more mobile composition and discard the Swarm Hosts then you can deal with the primal hives and the bonus objective much more freely. For Pig burrow roaches might've been the most viable option but that is imo due to the choices he made early on in the mission. I find this one quite nice in that it allows you to choose you you want to tackle it. It might be very hard but it is doable

    There is a path in the middle of the map you can uses to rotate from right to left

    Not sure if you figure it out in the last 1-1.5 hours, but I hope you remember the hydras have an ability to massively boost their DPS. I always forgot about it in the campaign myself.

    I think I prefer the frenzy +50% attack speed, even though the movement means you can micro more, I'm with you on this one

    you can definitely do it with mutas (source: beat this mission with mass muta)

    haha yeah it took me wayyyy too long to realise the fat dudes were spawning those giant air waves! I think mutas OR Roach both work great

    You can't just ignore every single spawner in the latter half of the mission. As you're told, their waves get stronger over time, which is why you start facing tons of ravasaurs/ultralisks in the attempts after your first big reset (you killed more spawners on the first attempt), as well as the heavy air forces (spawned by later spawners). Not sure why you're using your mutalisks to fight dozens of times as many enemies instead of just controlling the spawner count. Regen mutas work really well here.

    Yeah I was really amazed he almost beat it without the natural. He must not have realized while he was busy trying to manage everything. And his early attempts he didnt make so much static, so he spent more time procecting his hydras, waiting for locusts to go ahead and stuff. I do think he shpuld have kept corrupters and used them instead.

    Was the Swarm Host bug fixed? The one that made it release less locusts if it wasn't triggered manually
