Hearing God | Acts 21 | Gary Hamrick

9/10/2023
Does God still speak today? Yes and No. He does not supersede or contradict His Word (the Bible) with “new” revelation, but He does still speak tenderly to people. Jesus said that His sheep hear His voice (John 10:27). So how can we discern the voice of the Lord from all the other voices and noise in our world? Pastor Gary takes us into Acts 21 to answer that question in today’s study entitled, “Hearing God.”
00:00 - Introduction
01:10 - How can I hear from God?
11:33 - 1) The WORD of God
18:32 - 2) The WISDOM of Others
23:24 - 3) The WITNESS of Peace
25:55 - 4) The WHISPER of God

You will be better served and truer to Scripture to read the Bible to hear from our LORD. This is the normative way we hear from GOD. May GOD bless your reading, understanding and obedience to HIS Holy Word. 'God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; ‘ Hebrews 1:1-2 (NKJV)

The first time I felt God speaking to me, I ha read a passage I didn't understand and asked for guidance. The next day, his answer was in a passage I read. At that moment, I knew He was speaking to me. Since that time, this happens over and over again and I can sense him there with me as one would feel as if a warm blanket had been wrapped around me. Praise God!

Are you expecting God to speak to you outloud? If you want to hear God speak to you, read your bible. You will find everything you need in His Word. If you want to hear it audibly, read outloud.

@@kathyc7284 I've heard and used the exact same sarcasm too. Yes, it would be great if I could actually hear God speak. There are questions in life that the Bible has no answers to. Should I be a missionary in North Korea, or in Japan, etc, etc, etc.

  • @kathyc7284

@@hogansheroes2793 LOL...I love that sarcasm. But seriously, what questions does God not answer in His Word? Maybe you shouldn't be a missionary in those countries if you aren't getting lead by the Holy Spirit. Why do you feel you need to go? Not everyone is supposed to do that. Maybe God has other plans. I moved down to Phoenix to get away from my family. I wound up very sick and it's a good thing I was down there, because there is better medical and they were able to diagnose my fun illnesses. But, I lost everything and had to move back in with my parents. I believe God had me go back because both of my parents have dementia now and need a caretaker. So, I left, God put me back where I was needed. We don't always know what is the right decision for us. God will make our paths straight. Right now, He is telling you to wait. Serve at church. Help your brothers and sisters in Christ. There is a need always with our church members.

@@kathyc7284 Those were just a few of many potential questions a person can have in their lifetime for which there are no direct answers for in scripture. A vague sense of being led by the Holy Spirit, just doesn't cut it. Anyway be blessed.

Jesus is Lord God Almighty clothed in unsinful humanity and He is the author of *eternal life* to all who trust Him alone for salvation. Jesus paid for all the sins of all the world at the cross (past, present, and future). That payment is put to your account when you have believed on Christ alone for salvation. This means that saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation.

Jesus clearly says that "immediately AFTER the tribulation ... shall appear the son of Man ... and he shall gather together his elect (Matthew 24)." No where in the Bible does Jesus say anything about a rapture of the church to heaven to take place beforehand. Jesus himself says that his return will be as a "thief in the night," which phrase ostensibly means that his return will happen when no one knows expects it to happen - not according to your “the signs are all around us!” A thief does not send out signals (a sign) that he is on his way. Besides, Jesus said on more than one occasion that a “wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” The first-century Christians believed that his return was imminent - that it could happen at any time - indeed it appears that they thought it would happen within their lifetime. The imminent return of Jesus has been in effect since the day of Pentecost, and is no more imminent today than it was back then. Furthermore, it was Jesus who said that it is not necessary to "remove” his followers from this world in order to "keep" them from wrath. Read John 17:15, as Jesus prays just before his trial and crucifixion: "I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil." God did not deliver the three Hebrew children from the fiery furnace; but he did deliver them from the "wrath" of the fiery furnace. God did not deliver Daniel from the lion's den; but he did deliver Daniel from the "wrath" of the lion's den. I could go on and on. There is no "pre-tribulation" rapture. Nope. It's not in the Bible.

Are you saying calling Jesus is God wrong? anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. He died for everyone. He came to save those who are unsaved. Else Gentiles like us can't be saved!
