Healing Depression with Meditation, Part 1 - Tara Brach
Tara Brach: Healing Depression with Meditation, Part 1 - Tara Brach
Most people get depressed at times, and many suffer greatly from bouts of major depression. At the heart of the suffering is the experience of severed belonging-of being imprisoned in the pain of separation, unworthiness, unlovability and hopelessness.
These two talks explore several meditation practices that reconnect us with our natural aliveness, openheartedness and awareness. They empower us to develop our inner resources, energize us to awaken, free us from rumination and remind us that we are not our depressive thoughts and feelings. The growing realization of the loving awareness that is our home heals the very roots of depression. [Originally published 2018/08/01].

Thank you, Tara. I've been sober and clean since September of 2018, one month before my 60th birthday, after 45 years of alcoholism, enough of it "functional", that I am able to collect social security, but with constant misery for the entire time. Starting with AA, then turning to Zen Buddhism for my spiritual health, I'm much less well off financially, and the happiest I have ever been. Between the videos of Thich Nhat Hahn, Pema Chodrun...and you....I am able to live my elder days with;Peace Love Kindness Respect, the more you give the more you get. Start with yourself because you deserve it 🙏💖🙏😉

What a blessing that you have found this emotional serenity. I feel grateful that I was driven to find a way to begin healing after a lifetime of trauma, OCOA damage and all of the stuff that life throws our way. The practice of mindfulness and meditation just makes my recovery process whole. Namaste, dear one.
As I involve in this meditation there is a young man with his faithful and protective dog camping/homeless in the woods a mere 1000-+ feet from my window and it is 8 degrees tonight....and there are many second and third homes sitting vacant~~~Yes, my heart breaks with sorrow and depression~ 😔🙏🏼

I grieve to read your comment. I now care for the dog of the homeless woman that died 1000 feet from my window. The second homes and the governor's wineries not 1000 more feet from my front door. We are a broken world.

Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.

Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

Microdosing helped me get out of the pit of my worst depressive episode, a three year long episode, enough to start working on my mental health.

Giving thanks to the beautiful light in Tara 🙏
I am free if I don't believe in the most recurring thought as of now; free to be my joyous self, free to love, free to serve. Thank you Tara for lighting up the paths to freedom.
Many thanks Tara, so much understanding and help on our path to healing in this talk 🙏
This all makes sense. Very validating. Makes me feel less alone.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom ✨💜
God bless you, Tara🙏 Can't thank you enough for your huge impact on my life💗
I really like the Freudian approach to depression: the disconnection with the present and the desperate will to go back to previous state/situation or an imaginary/idealized one. Your book "Radical Acceptance" is the book I always tell my patients to read. :)
Thank you for healing us.
thank you. This was well timed tonight
So grateful that this addresses how complex depression is, that social inequality contributes to it so much, and that it needs a multi-faceted approach, while giving us practical examples of how we can help ourselves. Thank you Tara.
Divinely timed and so helpful. Thank you Tara for shining a light on depression and for sharing your wisdom. ❤
Thank you Tara. This was so helpful and timely for me. I will practice interrupting my ruminations. ❤
Just signed up for the email list - looking forward to your next meditation. You RULE
thank you ❤🙏🏽

Grieving the loss of my wife can’t cope.
I'll give it a try!
yes
Psilocybe cyanescens, collectible during our current rainy season, changed my mind to a positive outlook whereby I enjoy and appreciate every day. BTW when I inquired with my therapist about participating in entheogenic trips, she replied “I’m completely against taking short cuts to therapy.” Fortunately I dumped her real fast.

Where do you get them?
I don’t have to imagine. I had a plan.
Hmm, not sure if this will work for my clinical depression.
Wow, did the video just change? There was a meditation at the beginning which is gone now.

Meditation?
I think this was done several years ago so a repeat.
I was hopeful listening until you said ungrieved loss causes depression. That's BS. I've been crying and lying in bed for a year over my daughter's death. I've tried all day every day to meditate. The meditatative state never comes

I see people talk about this so much but no one EVER mentions where they source them. Like I would love to try it for my depression but with every single person gatekeeping it seems impossible to get ahold of them.
