Its why they need smaller cages. Way too big makes it easy to run around all day. Same thing a lot of guys do when they fight rodtang. I think goncalves won technically on points, but he did it such a weak way that he didn't deserve to get the win. So I'm happy rodtang got the win.

@@praetosstuff8230 It's more than just that. Hitting the opponent on the ground is not allowed in Muay Thai as far as I know and Goncalves was basically exploiting this rule. Goncalves could care less about his leg getting caught and just throw it without repercussion, cuz he get to avoid getting mauled by slipping down and it would have been foul if Rodtang hit him with like a knee while slipping down. The referee should have given him a warning or so, but at least the judges did right by Rodtang.

I've never seen rodtang falling from missing a punch nor thrown around like a ragdoll plus kind of hurt with kicks and punches... he got a bit humbled in this fight. That's a big prop to goncalves.

Close fight to score Goncalves was pretty slick and frustrating Rodtang that he abandoned the leg kicks

The referee doesn't know all the rules of pure Muay Thai and the very tough & smart Brazilian is using all the tricks and evasive tactics the unpolished referee was allowing him to do: sticking glued to Rodtang, even when the clinch is stopped & a separation is called for... picking up Rodtang and throwing him on the mat (that's MMA rule, not Muay Thai, which goes only as far as clinching and then the two fighters are separated, if they can't effectively hurt the other via knees or elbow, etc.) That's why the Muay Thai veteran was so frustrated; that's why he stood back a few times and asked the referee to tell the Brazilian to "stand there and fight like a man"! Reminiscence of the Leon Edwards and Cowboy Cerone fight, where agile & much younger Leon was using hit and run tactics, with the slower veteran being so frustrated, he, with blood pouring from his head, repeatedly pointed to the middle of the octagon and told Leon to man up, stand there, and exchange toe to toe!

Really coulda gone either way here. Goncalves played a good plan and landed more shots plus dumped Rodtang more times. But Rod was the aggressor the whole fight. Both warriors.
