I love those years with Nick the quick, Eddie Jones, and Cedric Ceballos. Elden Campbell was finally developing. Then they got Shaq, Kobe, and Derek Fisher all in the same year. They were so much fun to watch back in those days. I know Phil's triangle won championships, but it was still more exciting to watch that team before Phil got there.

Yea Eddie Jones and VANEXCEL mid90s was fun to watch,I ALWAYS wish that Eddie Jones would have added more aggressive ball handling moves to his midrangegame because he was a solid 3and D swingman but he was unselfish and probably too passive in pivotal moments as when KOBE came in with the killer confidence and extraordinary moves to break the Defense down in the clutch, it kinda drowned Eddie Jones value to the Lakers which was sad to see it end .VANEXCEL still had the OG sauce .

@Miller Time yea agreed,, some where after Eddie Jones 2nd Allstar game break and appearance he seemed to just capped off where he didnt get any better 2nd part of the season towards the playoffs and after his Charlotte, Miami stint he just was maintaining. But lacked that sheer drive or determination to win big or out will the best.where as kobe was extra determined and despite VANEXCEL injuries both were clutch .

That mid 90s Lakers team... absolutely loved watching him and Eddie run together. They also had Elden Campbell and Vlade and it was fun watching then play "small ball". Later when they got rid of those guys it kind of broke my heart because that was a special chemistry they had together.

I was always wondering why they got rid of Eddie Jones when they brought in Kobe Bryant, I thought Eddie was really good, maybe not Michael good but still good. Why would Nick have problems with the triangle, just curious, I never saw enough games in the Lakers pre triangle days and this was the days when I did not pay attention to the Bulls using the triangle.

Loved his ball handling and passing skills on those mid ninties LA Lakers teams. Still has his nr 9 jersey in my house somewhere. Too bad he had a bad streak about him.

Met him. Cool guy. Kenny Smith once said he is the greatest non famous clutch shooter in NBA history. His clutch shot resume is ridunkulous. It was him, Kenny Anderson, AI, Tim Hardaway, God Shammgod, Mark Jackson, and Rafer Alston as the best handles in the Old Skool.

VANEXCEL was the Original FREAKSHOW in L..A. with his shimmy shake n bake flamboyant stlye of play with clutch shots passes. His flair was ahead of his time with his Anklebreakers and antics .

Even though this was considered a low period in Laker Lore, they were fun to watch.

I was a big Lakers fan in the 90s, and the "Gangsta Hoopa" was my guy! But let's pump the brakes a little bit here. "The Most Amazing Guard of the 90s"? Stockton? Payton? Kidd? Penny? Tim Hardaway? Several reasons why he got traded: 1) he was a shoot-first point guard (in his defense, Lakers didn't have much offense before Shaq), 2) didn't play much defense (Stockton schooled him 2 straight years in the playoffs), 3) his contract and big payday was a year away (1999), (4) they didn't need his offense (with Shaq established and Kobe on the rise). HOWEVER, Nick proved his value in Denver. Change of scenery did him well. Van Excel was a very streaky shooter who's wasn't very accurate (career is a poor 40.5%, but awesome 35.8% from 3), but when he was having fun, he was the toughest / quickest little guy on the floor (not named Hardaway), and when he was HOT, there was little to stop him, and was fun to watch! Will always remember his days with the Lakers.

Van Exel was my favourite hands down, until Kobe hit the scene! I had his yellow Champion jersey, the 90s were the best 🤙
