I will forever remember his face from NBA Jam. He can be 90 years old in a disguise, and I could be partially blind.... I'd still know it's him.

Van Exel and Eddie Jones were the bridge players inbetween the Magic era until the Shaq/Kobe era. They weren't on there level as overall players but they maintained an excitement and a value in LA during the mid 90's.

I just saw this, I worked out with Nick one day in an ATL gym and I'm a scrub and I knew who he was but he was like a regular guy and didn't make me feel like he was this NBA hooper and he gave me pointers on my jumper...big up Nick the quick

The reason I became a Laker fan...The moves he did were phenomenal. I was 4 or 5 watching my first basketball game with my older brothers. Nick the Quick and Penny were my favorite players growing up.

One of my all time favorite player's. This dude was bad ass on the court.

I will always remember Nick Van Exel. Hell of a player. But what sticks out to me is the time I met him at a local liquor store in Culver City, CA. He was there buying his stuff and I went for a pack of cigarettes. It was my son's 10th birthday and he was a huge Laker fan. Nick took time to sign his autograph on a receipt and I went outside to call my son on a payphone "yes this was before cellphones" and Nick came out and talked to my son on the phone. My son asked him "Are you coming to my birthday party?" LOL Nick said no, but wished him a happy birthday! Thanks, Nick.

I moved to Denver in ‘98 and Nick made me an instant Nuggets fan. Have been an avid Nuggets fan since. Thanks Nick!

Very talented, competitive and gritty guard for our Lakers back in the day. Great documentary, well done.

Easily one of the greatest true point guards of all time & one of the most underrated players of all time. He would have a feast in the NBA now.

UC Bearcat fan from way back who had the pleasure of watching Nick play. His range was insane but, in the Pros he was even better.

This polarising dude was an intense ball of fire.. Such an amazing competitor. He was like a big brother to kobe bryant. Kobe learnt alot about life in general from him.

Still my guy til this day & fav player. Teaching my son to pattern his game after Nick the Quik

much respect to nick mom for not wanting for nick to care for him and to retire from Gm. His dad can kick rocks for wanting to come in his life because of the fame.

Nick The Quick was one of the best ballers in the league at his prime and in his time. And he was one of my favorite SouthPaw players ever, as well as being one of my favorite players of all- time. He is no doubt one of the best left handed players ever.

One the greatest LA Lakers of all time. I stole his shooting style and had an amazing shot. I loved to see Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, and Elden Campbell play.

Great job, I found this in 2 parts else where but I have saved this one. I watched him and Herb/Corry/Anthony/Terry/Rock and Gregor etc. during their times here in Cincinnati, some of if not the most fondest memories I've had sports wise here. I wish nothing but the best for Nick. Love the pic at the end. Great job!

Shit was crazy. Tragic. Borderline insane.

Nick said his son was more mild mannered than him. Ironically, in 2013, his son was convicted of murdering his friend and sentenced to 60 years in prison. Some times generational curses (like extreme anger and rage) lay dormant for years. That’s why the fathers have to try to break them so they’re not passed to the sons.

He was a great player and as a kid I got to see him in person in Portland during a playoff game hit a half court buzzer beater off the glass !! Was so much fun to watch play the game

Nick Van Ex.....My generation Laker. I went to several Laker games in the late 90's because my Dad had a friend with season tickets who never went. They were great seats...we're talking the Forum in Inglewood. Run down and dark outside. Kinda scary for skinny lil white kids from Orange County. The game I most remember going to was against the Charlotte Hornets when Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning were playing together. This was before Shaq and Penny Hardaway. 1993. We were about 12-13 rows from the floor....I remember how different it looked from the tv angles. I remember Alonzo Mourning yelling "Fuuuuck!!!" when he missed a shot. I remember buying packs of Stadium Club Basketball cards and every pack we opened had a insert card in it. It was good times. Simpler times.

An interesting story, and it's sad what happened with Van Exel's son...

After Magic retired I had a couple years where I didn't, really, have a favorite player, then the Lakers drafted Nicky V. One year for my birthday my Old Man got me his authentic jersey (my first authentic one) and his sneakers for ball. I never let those kicks touch the outside world.

P.O. ME WHEN CINCY GOT HIM AN UOFL DIDNT GO FOR HIM,AN EVEN MORE WHEN HE LEFT LA,LOVE NICK AN HIS GAME,GLAD HIS MOM MADE IT THRU!!

Man watching Nicky as a 11 or 12 year old kid was a blessing while he was playing at the Valley. Nick would come down court in transition full speed cross half pull up and drop at will and dude hands where huge.. Thanks for all the memories Nick and TVCC is not central Texas we are East Texas....

One of my favorite lakers of all-time. I really feel if he kept himself straight and listened he wouldnt have to be traded. Jerry west said it was one of his toughest decisions he had to make. Trading away van exel felt like he was trading away his son. Rest is history Van Exel career was never same after Lakers. He could have been a part of the 3peat kobe shaq years. Thank goodness for the great derek fisher we quickly forgot about van exel.

Man nick was good to me when I 1st met him. In Dallas for a summer league workout. He was cool. And think pick up play started a dog. He didnt take it light. I respect him for that. After playing he told me. Fear no one make people earn your respect and take it from others. Dont let your size be a handicap. He was real to me and loved him for that.
