Thats true, but the truth is that Ukraine was hardly on the path of joining NATO. They did not meet the criteria because of the annexation of Crimea, or while they were occupied by Russia, so this "excuse" Russia/Putin supporters are making has little stake in reality. If Putin's objective was to prevent NATO expansion to Ukraine, he essentially already did that but occupying the Dunbas and annexing Crimean peninsula. That's obviously not his objective, he wants to piece back together the old Soviet Union. A bigger, and scarier plan.

I watch a youtube channel called 1420 which interviews mainly young russians about their thoughts,their hopes etc...Most of them are bright individuals who dont hate the world and want to get with their lives..the draconian laws in russian stop many from voiceing a true opinion about recent events...Thrre are some however,and mainly women who do express their thoughts..a good channel to gain some perspective...This is not russias war...its a war waged by its "government"

Putin has been in politics for over 20 years. He was re-elected again and again, while all the lights were red. Now it's much harder to change/overthrow the government. However it's never too late, when 4 million Russians will demonstrate, they will be much stronger than Putin and a change will come. The same in Hungary with Orbán all the lights are orange/red, yet the Hungarians have chosen Orbán again. The 2022 election in Hungary was very important, unfortunately the majority of the Hungarians didn't see it yet.

To enforce air defense, NATO forces would have to enter in direct military conflict with Russia. That could bring China into play, and possibly Iran, if they are waiting for a reason to join and flex their muscles just for show (Iran) or go after other territories of interest. The disruption would be colosal. And in the end it may not help Ukraine that much, Russia has an enormous arsenal to throw indiscriminately at Ukraine. If Putin didn’t have the unconditional support of China, this wouldn’t have happened.

Tanks , artillery , ground to air missiles etc. They talk about it being viewed as offensive weapons but the drones are that , they take out tanks offensively

So, to cut this conversation short: Ukraine must not to lose this war to bring Putins Era to the end. Then, the West must help Ukraine to win this war.

We can hope that Putins version of Russia is on the verge of defeat and failure but I will use a George W Bushism to caution that "mis under estimating" a despotic maniac like Putin would be a very dangerous miscalculation.

Kasyanov was out in 2004. It is telling that Putin had nothing against NATO in his first years of leadership, but now with his awakened ambitions for empire -- one presumes something short of total world domination -- he sees NATO as a barrier to that. For Putin's expansionist aims, this recent invasion debacle has backfired in the worst way for that, and as the sanction effects get worse for Russians, it will destroy what support he now enjoys within Russia. Does anyone think Hitler ever had a realization that he caused a world war that took the lives of over 40M people, and for what? No, like most dictators, they blame others to the very end. And some sociopath like Putin can take that to the nuclear level and think the world does not deserve to exist if it cannot comply with his will and vision. He has already said he sees himself as Russia, so he sees his removal as a world without Russia, and a world without Russia does not deserve to exist, he thinks. For this reason, I would like Christiane to do a program with some expert(s) on modern Russian nuclear protocol. We know that Trump fantasies about nuking the weather, or thoughts about nuking N. Korea, were thwarted by levels of protocol, that would prevent an insane clown like himself from having the final and only say on whether to use a nuclear weapon. Does ANYTHING like that exist to prevent Putin from using them? How compliant would the Russian military be on the use of even a small tactical nuclear weapon, if Putin wanted it?
