Hey NativeNYerChicHK, nothing but love for Ren and his talents. I was the one who commented about Ren’s free styling but you might want to look at the original comment to get the context. Someone suggested Eminem and Ren have a freestyle battle and I commented that Ren openly admitted he’s not great at freestyling in a twitch stream he did with Liv (Ren and Liv Sangster - jamming and chatting on twitch 47min 20s in if you want to check). He freestyles a bit after that comment and he is pretty good (much better than I would EVER be so it wasn’t a negative comment by far). So I suggested a WPM battle instead. All good vibes for ItsMrMills and his reactions.

Just to jump in, Ren is better than any artist out there just for the fact that he can do rap, and do it well, not the same played out garbage bands like Falling In Reverse think is rap. He can play multiple instruments and if it's anything like he plays guitar, smashen that. Then he sings like a goddamned angel. And just in case he hadn't dominated music enough, the content of the songs is just out cold on several tracks, the way the videos are done/shot. Oh yeah, and one shot live takes. Every other artist is just gonna have to get used to being second best to Ren. Even if they are slightly better in one area, they still have nothing that beats Rens overall crazy talent. Just facts here 🙃

I respect your opinion 100% and I agree with everything you said about Ren. BUT “Any” is a super STRONG word for this type of conversation lol. I do not knock his talent at all! I mean how can somebody. But such as artist 100%!! Although I haven’t heard any other British artist. I don’t need to. I just don’t see any other being better. Not ever “as good” as him

Ren is a different animal. He's a multi-faceted artist, where em is strictly hip-hop/rap. Ren can rap, rock, sing, play instruments, beat boxes, makes movies out of his music videos, etc. Em is a giant in his own right, but Ren is a once in a generation talent.

Em's great....Ren is BEYOND -makes me think of Jeff Buckley blended with Zack de la Rocha, and a kiss of Shakespeare -think his described style is Bardcore. Soo much damn talent -giant for sure.

Ren and Eminem are so different. I grew up with Eminem and he’s the best in his game, but in Rens game he’s the only participant. He’s got so many influences, and I hear Eminem (along with bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, Korn,, Jeff Buckley, and countless others) but Ren listening is best served by not putting him in any box or category.

If you do "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)" you don't have to worry about order because all 3 are in the same video. I think it's cool that you'd put him in the same room as Em and NF especially considering that he's a badass guitarist, sings with the voice of an angel, makes his own beats, beatboxes, plays beautiful piano, plays groovy bass, directs and edits his videos, produces his music etc. Imagine if he only ever focused on rapping? You guys work great together. Love your vibe. And yeah, Ren's bench is DEEP. You won't be finishing him anytime soon unless you do two or three a day.

Love Eminem for over 23 years now but imo Eminem is a rapper where I see what Ren does as pure art. Ren covers every genre, every art style you can do audibly, he's got it covered. He's some of the best stuff I've seen or heard in forever.

Django Reinhardt was a famously fast jazz guitarist who was had his own fantastic style

Love your reaction to this. That choke you til larynx ruptures... larynx = the voicebox in your throat. IMO, with Ren you can hear all his musical influences, Eminem included, but he's not copying anybody, he's transforming all his influences and his life experiences (including his sense of humor) into his own art. It's not a competition, but Ren is one of my all time faves. Top 5.

"GROUND BEEF" cracked me up 😂 You two have so much fun together. Looking forward to the 2 hour long reaction to the Trilogy 🙃 RE Eminem vs Ren. I do think there's no use comparing them as they're both in their own lane. Eminem would probably have the edge on fast rap (though Ren is much earlier in his career so who knows where he'll get to). But fast rap is just one tool in Ren's bag- he's also at the top levels of guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), singing, beatboxing, piano, acting... He kills every genre from reggae to rock to rap to pop, hes an expert songwriter, makes all his own beats, mixes his own music and produces his own videos, and does it all independently with a small budget and just a few friends. And on top of all that he is just the most genuine human being who has been through the worst of it and has come out the other side to uplift and empower others. To me personally there's just no contest.

hehe you guys are great. Ren fans show love to those what show Ren the love :) We gotta make sure he he has the whole world out here ready for him when he's done with treatment in Calgary. And ok weighing in, no one is beating Em ...I love Em but even experts, absolute rap professors require a full semester course just to break down one track. Em's almost impenetrable at this point in the game lol. With Ren, he pays homage to those skills but it's his charisma and delivery that pull it back up from just sheer skill flex. He's just so much FUN!

If you want to check out more rap, Genesis and Power are phenomenal energy. Life is Funny is deep. Ocean and Hold on have some awesome flows. Love Music pt.1,2,3 are a great sequence to do and are super fun. Oh, and Money Game pt. 1&2. His former band The Big Push covers are awesome - I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop and War Pigs unbelievable jams and his mashups with Sam Tompkins and duo with Chinchilla are beautiful. Let's have some fun!

All wonderful suggestions! Ren has something for pretty much any taste. Another way to go with the Tale of Jenny and Screech would be to use the concert version under the Live tab on Ren's page. I don't think anyone has reacted to it yet and it includes some bars in between the main 3 songs. It's about 30 minutes long but it might be a different way to go.

You never know what's coming with Ren, but you know it's gonna drive you wild with his talent. ❤

Canada... don't forget Canada....lol. Ren is universal. I hear something new every time I listen to this and it just becomes more meaningful. My favourite is Crutch (with Bibi) he wrote it about 6 years ago and it was when he thought he was losing his mind. It is very different and hauntingly beautiful. (Ren on the piano) it was done with almost no budget (I think he said $1000) but it is amazing.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with acknowledging hearing the artists that influenced & inspired his music (or any artist’s music). All artists are influenced by those that came before them & mould them into the artists they are now. After all, without those influential artists, newer talents like Ren wouldn’t exist. It’s the same with Em, Jay, Nas, etc! They wouldn’t be who they are without those who came before them either! It’s human nature to be inspired & influenced by people you respect and look up to, so I don’t think it should be seen as a negative! Sorry that got long! lol! 😬 Looking forward to his new track (& NF on 7th April too!)

I stood side by side multiple times had like 3 conversations one day and talked to him again the next just quick life conversations in between shoots! Basically quite literally spent 12 hours with him both days of the video shoot! Honestly doesn’t get any better than that! Then shook his hand just to say thanks for the opportunity! But yesss that makes them even more respected as an artist! All on their own majority of the time

It's not just that he has worldwide appeal but it's also that he has appeal to everyone from kids to 80 year olds. Yep I've seen a comment from am 80 year old saying he thinks Ren is one of the greatest artists he's ever seen.

Your reaction to this is the best. He raps in lots of his tracks but you might like genesis, power, losing it. Also his older tracks stand up well against his new stuff. There's love songs part 1,2 and 3, from earlier which are all great. All his songs with The Big Push are ace. You can't really make a mistake, unless you watch the tales of jenny and screech in the wrong order so just pull up the version that says (full) and is 13 minutes long and you're good to go.

Ren is most definitely on Eminem's level. Maybe not freestyling but add in all his other talents and he easily surpasses.

You should definitely try Ren in his more playful rap mode. Love Music pt 3 has some god-tier bars and puns for days.

Full disclosure, Im a 52 year old mom of three grown kids probably your age and Im a grammie to three grandkids but I LOVE rap. Im from the OG days. Tupac, Biggie, NWA. This is what blares from this old white lady's minivan (No lie, ask my kids!). I just discovered REN about a week ago and IMO, he just needs to be seen by the right person and he WILL be making that sort of mark on the music industry. The way he raps is so impressive, but the thing that makes him different is that he isnt just a rapper. Hes an artist, he is a musician but the way he plays is unique and different, he is an extremely gifted vocalist (which is super unique in the rap genre) and he is an actor. He is a one man broadway show. Sure he can keep up with Em, and NF speed wise but he doesnt need to battle them. I dont think he is competing with either of them. He is obviously inspired by them, but hes inspired by SOOOO many different genres. I mean there is Opera, spanish guitar, Italian gondola strumming, poetic Em inspired rap, acting, rock and roll vocals all in one song in this mans repetoire. He is just different, and watching the industry eb and flow through all the years Ive been living and loving this type of music I can say Ive never seen anything or anyone like him. I LOVED your reaction to this because you guys are just having so much fun with it. So yeah, you eared a subscribe from a grannie of three in Washington DC! ;-)
