El Paso is by far his most well known song, and it’s great, but I’m begging you- if you choose to react to “el paso”, PLEASE do the other two as well. It is a trilogy, there are 3 different songs about the same event, each from a different perspective. “El Paso” is first, then “Feleena”, and the third is “El Paso City”. When you are done you will feel as if you watched a movie- it is pure musical genius, and you are truly missing out if you don’t hear all three songs.

Here is something I just read about him from Big Iron: How Marty Robbins Became A NASCAR Legend "In 1974 he purposely drove into a wall at 160mph, suffering a broken tailbone, broken ribs, 37 stitches to the face and two black eyes, rather than T-bone Richard Childress whose car had been left sideways across the track after an accident. It takes a lot of guts to do something like that, but that’s the kind of guy Marty Robbins was."

Yes yes yes and yes. The western in Country and Western music. I have loved western ballads all my life and nobody does them as well as Mr. Robbins did. Especially gunfighter ballads. This is my all time favorite one. He paints a picture in mind so real and dramatic. He delivers with a voice made to tell stories with. I still remember when every once in a while this would play on the country stations back in the day. Yes I'm that old. Never often because it was much longer than most songs. That meant fewer songs per hour which was considered bad back then. I grew up less than 10 miles where he did. I cannot thank you enough for this reaction. Love the song, love the singer and love you two for what you do.

Try songs like "Devil Woman", "Don't Worry", "Singing the Blues", "Tonight Carmen", "Ain't I The Lucky One", "Begging to You", "Like All the Other Times", "You Gave Me a Mountain" and "A White Sport Coat". Martin David Robinson, aka Marty Robbins was born in Glendale, Arizona September 26, 1925, and died December 8, 1982. Marty was one of the first "crossover" country music artists. Crossover meaning a country genre song crossing over to rate on the pop charts as well. He did so many times with such hits as "Singing the Blues" #17 pop, "A White Sport Coat (and a Pink Carnation)" #2 pop , "The Story of My LIfe" #15 pop, "The Hanging Tree" #38 pop, "El Paso" #1 on the pop charts, "Big Iron" #26 pop, and "Don't Worry" #3 on the pop charts. My favorite song of Marty Robbins is "Don't Worry".

This and several other of Robbins songs are keen examples of "Western" music and I'm so glad y'all have found it. Until about 1980, radio stations all had "Country and Western music" and dance halls and clubs were called "C&W" clubs. Suddenly, there was no more Western music on the radio. Yet, it persists in late night shows like "Red Stegall's Bunkhouse." Michael Martin Murphey, R. W. Hampton, Ian Tyson, Dave Stamey are all great examples of Western music available here on KZread and streaming. Please check it out.

The Master's Call is a must. Hope you will listen to it regardless if you react to it or not. FYI, Hank Williams, Jr also cut an album of western/gunfighter songs (Ballads of The Hills and Plains). Another country singer of ballads and historical songs is the great Johnny Horton. I don't think I have seen any one react to his songs. Some of Horton's songs are North To Alaska, Johnny Reb, The Battle of New Orleans, Sink the Bismarck, Comanche (The Brave Horse) [supposed to be the only survivor from the Battle of the Little Bighorn on Custer's side]. He also sang some pretty romance songs-All For The Love of a Girl and Whispering Pines.

ROB SQUAD, I see a LOT of people voting for El Paso, but I think if you guys really liked this song then the song "Big Iron" would be a PERFECT next song for you to tackle!! Like THIS song, it's a story of a gun battle between two in the old west!! And it was ALSO covered by the Grateful Dead!!

For more like this, check out the Marty Robbins album "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs". I recommend 5 Brothers or The Strawberry Roan. The spanish guitar work is likely 60s Nashville session ace Grady Martin, who did the guitar work on Marty's "El Paso".

Yes there is a song El Paso but this song is the first part of three songs that tell a story. Listen to them in this order- El Paso, Felina, El Paso City. He was going to do a fourth song to this but he had passed away. Thanks for posting.

I second the nomination for the El Paso trilogy in the order stated above. I would also request Jimmy Dean's Big Bad John trilogy: 1. "Big Bad John" 2. "Little Bitty Big John" 3. "The Cajun Queen"

MARTY!!! :) As I see, below - there are many suggestions for El Paso!! I always loved the way that his manly vocals did "sound-n-recall" with the gentle sounding spanish-like-guitar work. Great story work, too!! MAKES you listen!! :) JUST ADORE HIM - reminds me of when I was very little and my Daddy played him, quite a bit. He loved Marty - and, now: SO DO I!!! :) For a change-up - you might listen to A White Sports Coat (And A Pink Carnation)!! HUGS, YA'LL!!!

Hi Guys, I have been following you guys from the beginning I am a big 60s fan and have listened to that music for over 60 years and love it. You guys add extra meaning to all of those songs that I've listened to for years. This may not be the place for a request, however you guys mentioned how much you love the Mamas and Papas and have only done 2 songs by them. Today is my birthday, and I am putting in a request for "Words of Love" by them. It alao highlights Mama Cass's voice and I know you love it Amber. If you can not do it today, please consider it in the next few days. Thanks for all the enjoyable listening guys and God Bless, Harv --

Did you have the privilege of watching the public broadcasts during their donations broadcast . For some reason allowed him to play last. Giving him the opportunity to be his natural funny self. He always made the broadcast run over the time allowed. Nothing they did could stop him. 😊😂
