I rarely comment on vids but will here. You've done MUCH better with this video than other who produce tech vids. You filled in gaps, those little bits of info that many people just skip over. Ssd location does matter. Main drive sata vs optical bay speeds are different. If you want real performace, you want to swap the ssd to main drive and the hdd to the optical bay.

Great video, thank you for making it and sharing it with us. All my parts have arrived to to this mod so I found your video really straight forward to follow. Before I start I do need to understand how I can clone my current drive onto my Caddy with a new SSD in so that the faster SSD will be my primary drive for the laptops functionality. Then I can use my slower HDD for other file storage, so I have a bit more research to do before I start. Kind regards. Paul from 48-SPOKES (UK)

Wouldn't you technically be able to do the software transfer after the 2nd hard drive is installed with the caddy rather than doing the software transfer before using a slow USB link?

I'm planning on getting a SSD for Windows 10 that will sit in my laptop's storage bay, but want to run Windows 7 off of the HDD in the caddy as I need Windows 7 for some older programs. If we have a HDD preinstalled and we want to install SSD. So can we transfer our boot up files after putting the SSD in hard drive through caddy.

The optical drive slot is SATA 2, which is faster than hdd but not fast enough for ssd. The original hard drive slot is SATA 3, which is also slower than ssd but it is faster than sata2.

Great video and made a decision to buy. I installed SSD in primary and HDD in optical caddy. Both are working fine. But the HDD is working slow. The transfer rate, opening a folder in HDD is very slow.....any suggestions???

Hi, i would like to ask about the ssd. If i change my dvd drive to ssd. Can i directly mirror the windows to the ssd from my current hdd? Do i need to change any setting in the bios? Is there any difference if i put the ssd in hdd slot or the dvd drive slot? Thank you.

I connected the SSD into optical drive SATA and cloned the OS from the SSD. When i try to boot the OS from the SSD blue screen appears stating that something went wrong.

Thanks a ton, followed this tutorial exactly to get a second hdd into my optical bay. However, I am noticing very slow read & write speeds (around 2 MB/s) from the optical bay? It wasn't like this before, any ideas as to why or if this is normal? Or maybe an error made on my part? Appreciate the help

@EasyTechs after I inserted my old HHD in caddy (in the old place of HDD is inserted SSD), the disk HDD is invisible for Windows. I have tried to find it with Device Manager by scanning for new devices. Could you suggest me the solution? I have the same caddy as it is in video. I see this white dip switches. Do you know what is their functionality? I can't find manual, where this information could be included

sooo it's okay for both drives to have the OS and you basically just pick one of em in the bios?

In case the ssd/usb cable is not available, is it possible to plugin the ssd drive first, then cloning the system? I.e. starting by step 2 first then step 1

I did the migrating with the ssd connected internally in the optical drive. I chose the option to transfer and keep the old drive, not remove. It seems the system is not booting from the new drive. It is still booting from the old one as everything was copied, not moved. Did I go wrong somewhere? Would it be different if I do start off with the USB connection? Nothing will happen on your HDD. i think.

Will the following order work? 1. Install the SSD straight into the (former) optical drive; 2. Then transfer the OS (Windows 10) across to the SSD; 3. Then change the bios to boot from the SSD.
