HBO Boxing's final farewell (4K & Extended)

Ғылым және технология

The last ever Boxing match on HBO was broadcast on Dec 8 2018. This is the beautiful sendoff, now in 4K, with tearful goodbyes from Jim Lampley, Roy Jones Jr., and Max Kellerman - and an EPIC history recap of the biggest moments in HBO Boxing history. Unlike my original low-quality upload, this has been upscaled to 4k using Topaz Video Enhance AI, from the original 1080i source.
This also includes an interview with Larry Merchant.

    Hope you guys like it, it was quite painful to download the 22GB cap at 100Kb/s and then upscale it at 0,8 fps, but I think the results were worth it!

    Thank you. Great job. As a 50 year old, my childhood was filled with watching legend after legend on HBO. Some of my earliest memories are of watching boxing. Many of these memories were saved through VHS, then moved to DVD, now to digital hdd. I remember witnessing live the incredible (Gatti-Ward), the controversial (Chavez-Taylor & Starling-Molinares), the storm (Tyson) and the wacky (Fan Man in Holyfield-Bowe 2).....amongst hundreds of other moments. There was just something about the feeling HBO Boxing brought that no other network could bring.

    Just came here after Showtime's final boxing telecast last night and all the raw emotions of watching those fights on both networks during the 80's, 90's and 2000's came flooding back as they did 5 years ago when this HBO event took place. If you haven't seen the Showtime send off, check it out. Always the best of times, boxing and beer with my Dad on Saturday nights.

    Unfortunately HBO had been wanting to end their boxing production for a very long time so it was inevitable. The main reason is that it was very expensive to produce and reaped very little reward. Once Pacquiao and Mayweather were done, HBO boxing was done as well. I guess they didn't believe in Canelo the way they believed in Mayweather/Pacquiao or De La Hoya before them.

  • @GhettoMatt

    @GhettoMatt

    Al Haymon took all of his entire stable of fighters including HBO's perennial cash-cow Floyd Mayweather to form PBC and buy air-time across multiple networks and platforms. Shortly after Bob Arum and Top Rank left HBO entirely and entered a deal with ESPN. The reasons are mostly attributed to money - with HBO stifling it's boxing budget for quite some time before these powerbrokers took their personnel elsewhere. HBO Boxing, despite it's production being second to none was becoming a second-rate power in it's last couple of years with only GGG vs Canelo and their looming rematch being the only significant bouts if interest. With platforms like DAZN on the horizon with a war chest to offer fighters ridiculous sums of money the writing was well and truly on the wall. The fights themselves will always be the same no matter who is hosting or commentating but there has been something severely lacking from boxing since HBO pulled out. No other network or platform makes it seem as good, important or serious as it should be.

    To be honest, HBO BOXING is and always has been my favorite to watch. The way they broke down fights, the stats during the rounds, the pre-fight meetings the were talked about during the fight, the questions after the fights, just everything. Jim Lamply, Larry Merchant, Max Kellerman, Roy Jones, Lennox Lewis, George Forman, Bernard Hopkins, Andre Ward and the Late Great Emanuel Stewart, AND the Late Great Harold Letterman. Everyone was on point. When HBO BOXING left boxing wasn't the same for me. THANK HBO BOXING 🥊💪🏽🖤❤️‍🔥🔥🙏🏽🥀
