I've heard a couple people (including the creator) point out that while Charlie does understand her people do some pretty awful things, she sees them more as wayward children. While this makes her hard to take seriously and leaves her vulnerable to manipulation, it does have some benefits. When you're living in a world of constant hostility, being treated with genuine patience and kindness, by someone who believes you can be better, can have, profound effect on you, as we see with Sir Pentious, and later Angel Dust. Obviously, that won't work for everyone, but that's where Vaggie - and, to an extent, Husk - come in, giving the guests a dose of tough love when Charlies approach isnt enough.

Given the religious theming of the show, and the point on Charlie being the sort of person to argue that no one is in a position to throw the first stone, it reminds me a of a joke I love: When Christ was intervening to save the woman about to be stoned for adultery, he famously asks “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. A pebble flies across the crowd, narrowly missing the woman. Christ, rather irritated, turns and yells “Mum! You’re really embarrassing me!”.

I see Charlie's problem as two fold. Yes she is an overwhelming caretaker. But she was raised as sheltered royalty. The people in Hell are all damaged people. Vivziepop's series seem to be focused on the issue of mental health. Rather than focusing on sins it focuses on how a person behaves because of how they have been hurt. And Charlie is overwhelmed with wanting to help these people but has no personal experience through which to connect to them she is always failing at it .... at least in the manner she is trying. But behind the scenes she is being effective because she is providing a safe space and the expectation that people can be better. Because she is bringing other people to the hotel that are damaged they are able to relate to the other people and in the safe space and expectation provided by Charlie they reach out and connect to each other becoming each others safe harbor. Empathy is one of Viv's (Vivienne Madrano} tells. Early on in the pilot there is a scene where when they enter the hotel and Charlie collapses due to all the wreckage that had just occurred to her plans Angeldust momentarily reaches out to her in empathy but stops short because he does not feel safe yet. Not enough connection had built up for him. But the empathy is there. Despite the literal Hell he had been through he still cared about others. This is Viv's tell on who she considers to be the good characters. The one's that will wind up on Charlie's side. Charlie's other problem and perhaps bigger one is her inability to accept who she is. She is not comfortable with her own power and position. She is the second most powerful character in the story. With all the power we see Alastor displaying Charlie could wipe the floor with him. But she never lets her power come out. In moments of anger we see a glimpse of what lies below. But she always pulls it back in. The thing is with what she can provide to people being space and safety she needs to understand her power in order to be of most use to others. There is too much of a gap between her experiences growing up and the Hell that others have gone through for her to be the one to make the initial breakthrough. She is too innocent. Too sheltered. But if she comes to terms with her own identity she can provide the safe space that people need to heal with the help of others around them with similar experiences. And it is the expectation that people can be better that is the vital component for this to happen. It is this loss of hope in Lucifer that lead to Hell being what it is. Lucifer is an absentee father not just to Charlie but to Hell as well. Lucifer's expectations were destroyed by his condemnation by the Angels and never getting to see the positive of his actions. All he saw was the worst of what came from his actions. And it destroyed him. He retreated into himself and fiddled with pointless side projects desperately seeking dopamine and validation. Because of this Hell is permeated with the idea that they can never do better. And predation followed upon that. This is what Charlie is faced with. If she can come into her power she can either help her father to realize he has to do better or in the end overthrow him and create safety and hope for people to heal.

Very well said! I would add though that making à démonstration of her power might pressure some of her résidents. Not the ones we know, bc they know her, but Charlie might always be pulling back her power bc if the deal is "get in my hôtel, get better, and behave well or else look at what i can do" people wouldn't try sincerely, they would do it out of fear. Being underestimated and taken for a bleeding heart with little spine might actually be one reason why the people who would turn to her would feel safe - because they wouldn't fear her. Now though alastor is scary enough so he fills in the rôle of the protector, as well as Vaggie. And i get that understanding and accepting her power could be a stepping stone for Charlie to become à better person and more helpful to others - but for now, it seems like her prioritizing kindness and patience over her power is what makes her project even viable in the first place. Especially with hiw she surrounded herself, and in the end, even Lucifer gets involved. With him at her side, would she need to show the extent of her full power? In any situation other than war, that is.

He apologies to Sera and follows her orders without complaint, he lets Lute manhandle him and convince him on courses of action, and he lets her take the spotlight during the big Court-Room song before hoping into a duet chorus with her. He is a fascinating *trainwreck* of a awful person, but there's still a lot there to examine I think.

I never thought of Charlie as being codependent, I suppose I always associated that term to being in a mutually toxic relationship with someone whom you also share some kind of psychological need. In short, I learned something new today. It is hard not to love Charlie, codependent or not. That said, I hope she learns to do a better job of recognizing that people can only improve if they genuinely want to be better and there people such as Adam whom there is very little if any chance of reforming. I hope we are going to get some insight to Angel Dust, Sera, Lucifer, and of course Alastor. In any event I hope you are not planning to dive into Nifty’s head because in my experience whenever a character voiced by Keith David says “You don’t want to know”, they tend to be right

Yeah, this helped open me up again to the point that it just like many others are personality types not inherently troubling behavior in them selves. With codependents it is mostly an issue and becomes toxic if someone is taking advantage, yes, so setting boundaries is important. But it's also about expectations if the codependent hasn't dealt with or communicated them it doesn't matter if the other involved is actively taking advantage, it will feel that way and turn bitter. Unlike other personality traits this one's not see as a "problem", as everyone else tends to benefit, till it is so far gone that it has hit the complete breaking point. Something like a narcissist, you fairly quickly go that is a problem, even if it's just at a point of that person is annoying not really doing harm yet, so it gets recognized.

My biggest question is how is Charlie so kind and cheerful when she's surrounded by people who not only ridicule her for it but are generally cruel and violent? It makes me wonder whether she was introduced to the population of Hell after she fully developed her identity or if it was normalized early.

While I agree that Charlie definitly has codependenciy issues, I think there is one big point that mustn't be overlooked: She is Royalty. Unlike most other people, she actually kind of _is_ responsible for fixing her peoples problems, or at least it should be the duty of her Family. Sadly, her parents both seem to have checked out, Lucifer as we later see clearly does not at all believe in the Sinners and just leaves the running of Hell to the overlords, which is pretty much the equivalent of the King giving the Nobilty the reigns and Lillith... I'll hold of judgement there, because it is clear that she is doing _something_ the question is just, is whatever she is doing going to benefit Hell or not. But due to this, Charlie is right now the only person of the royal Family who has any interest in the Sinners. I don't think her methods are the best, but to a certain extend, she _is_ responsible for the wellbeing of the people in hell.

Oh there's so many characters I'd be interested in seeing you analyze, complicated by the fact that for most of them we haven't gotten to get a deeper insight into their characters yet. I'm already pretty happy at the suggestion of a video on Sir Pentious. Of course, Alastor deserves his own video, despite being a big mystery I think we've seen plenty of glimpses of what's going on under that smiling face. Husk is also a very interesting character, especially in episode 4. I'm guessing you're going to do a video on Angel Dust, because there's going to be plenty to talk about there. You might want to watch the Addict music video, I believe it's no longer canon but I think the general vibe is probably still right. An analysis of what's going with Lucifer would be interesting too. With the last two episodes dropping soon there'll probably be more elements to analyze soon. In the live Q&A she just did Vivziepop suggested that we might get some info on Alastor's past and Niffty. I am very curious about what's going on with Niffty.

I would love to see a break down of the overall mentality of Heaven and Hell as societies. Like Heaven is very militaristic, and holds themselves as the pure good. And the weapons they make are able to permanently kill souls. Such extreme absolute, despite the hypocrisy they have with someone like Adam being in Heaven, while people like Charlie are in hell, and the Hellspawn (people born in Hell) are stuck there despite never having done anything And although Hell is full of evil people, quite a lot of people in there seem like pretty good people Asmodeus, the embodiment of Lust. Heavily supports Consent, falls in love, and openly tells people about the relationship being loving (after a bit and realising his own feelings) Beezlebub, the Embodiment of Gluttony. Takes care of the people at her parties, and gets worried when someone there is getting carried away.

I'm so hyped for whatever Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss videos you may have planned in the future! My No.1 interest for Hazbin Hotel is a video about redemption, specifically regarding Vaggie and Angel, and the need to redeem themselves in their own eyes, as well as in the eyes of those they care about. For example; What do they think they need to do to feel redeemed vs what they actually would need to do to forgive themselves for their pasts? Don't know if you're planning to cover Helluva Boss as well, but that series is FANTASTIC for discussions on relationship dynamics and I think there's some incredible stuff for you there :) Much love from the UK!

Husk called it in Episode 4: She hates herself, and both yearns and feels guilty and self-disgust whenever Charlie expresses/reciprocates her love towards her. Vaggie, without further backstory, sees herself as a tool without a wielder, directionless and attaching herself to Charlie's mast and riding that ship wherever it goes. She's been cast out of Heaven by bloodthirsty Exorcists for not being bloodthirsty enough; and since humans can become angels, I'd imagine that she doesn't think much of the clueless and/or enabling denizens of Heaven. And now that she's in Hell, Vaggie knows that most Sinners are deserving of their place in the underworld, but because she's Charlie's Manic Pixie Dream Girl, she's ride or die. Because that's all she has left: Surviving and thriving for Charlie's sake, or death/suicide by an Exorcist's blade. And underneath it all, in her lowest moments, Vaggie believes that she deserves ultimate destruction... for being, in her self-destructive way, that she's a twofold traitor and low-key a coward. She obviously is none of these.

You're probably going to cover the main cast first and then cover any other interesting characters in the future. Allister and Angel and Husk would be my personal choice. Hell if you want cover Hellava Boss since there is even more characters to review.

Love the eye roll when Adam says he never made a mistake in his life
