Honestly, a lot of people kind of have been giving Lucifer crap for not being supportive or having such a bad view of sinners, but really try to see this from Lucifer's point of view: He basically gifted humanity Free Will, having nothing but the purest of intentions (at least in this version), but his decision ended up creating Evil in the world. He then became Fallen, cast down into Hell where he was doomed to only ever wittness the absolute worst abuses of the Free Will he gave for all Time. He likely spent centuries, maybe even millennia, trying to redeem sinners, probably having similar ideals to Charlie. Who knows how many times he tried similar plans to Charlie's hotel... and never had any success. Meanwhile, Lilith seems like she was perfectly fine with sinners the way they were (likely because Lilith may be more similar to Adam than most might think, just in a different way) because she probably has a more cavalier view of Free Will and views it as the right to do whatever you want without restraint. She and Lucifer might have eventually split over their different views on this, because at the end of the day... Lucifer is still an angelic being. Trapped in Hell he might be, he's just an angel down in Hell, not a demon, and for him Hell is truly the worst torment, a constant daily reminder for all of Time of just what horrors his act wrought upon creation. And now he sees Charlie, the one last thing in his life he has any care for, whom he loves more than anything as his greatest creation, now trying to do the _exact same thing_ he's likely tried to do many times. He has every reason in the world to both be skeptical of her success and also to be deeply worried about how much her inevitable failure will break her like it did him. Lucifer really is Best Dad, and it's a shame so many people just go "Gah why aren't you blindly supporting Best Gurl?!"

Ahh, I've been saying the same thing to almost every reaction since the episode came out. I see a lot of Stolas in Lucifer as to how he's trying to be the best dad he can be. Mistakes made and all. Though I believe someone (Lilith?) has tried to manipulate the father/daughter relationship to keep them at a distance.

Very well put! I have a theory based on their relationship and the brief flashback of him and little Charlie. I think Lilith was keeping Charlie from him to an extent. Neither father or daughter looked happy to part from each other. Lucifer put on a brave face but we see it falter as the doors close behind Lilith. I think that the distance Lilith put between Charlie and Lucifer is what caused Lucifer to really lose sight of how to be a good parent for his daughter. Not to mention it would very much contribute to his self-admitted depression. We know he loves her above anything as all of the pictures in his room are of her or have her in them. Even the awkward, braces-wearing, emo phase Charlie (which made me laugh way harder than it probably should’ve 😂).

Lucifer actually wasnt unsupportive. He was trying his best to disillusion Charlie from her goal because ,as he said at the song start, he tried this before. And heaven broke his dreams. It looks like he fell into depression and during that time his wife decided to leave the shell of a man he had become.(unless the pictures of her are implying that sbe became darker as time passed.)

A cool detail a few people mentioned is that Lucifer does show a lot of signs of actual depression in the episode He has repetitive behaviors in order to focus on something (like making endless rubber ducks) He disassociate and seems to unfocus completely a few times to a point it looks like he's not interested in what his daughter has to say but the way he looks at her it truly looks like he's trying to pay attention but can't And also shows some suicidal ideation (jokingly dangling from the balcony talking about how easy it would be to just fall off)

Also the fact that he doesn't contact Charlie all that often and seems so pleased that she wanted him to come over. Depression convinces you that your a burden to your friends and loved ones, so you start to detach and stay away thinking they'll be happier if you aren't ruining their life with your existence. (I went through depression myself.)

Super glad Lucifer was more of a protective father who has his own issues but does genuinely care about Charlie and her plan. I was worried he would be a typical strict unsupportive father figure or something. But nah he’s just a ball of anxiety. I’m sure Charlie got her goofy and clingy side from him.

Everyone who has Daddy issues cried during this episode. Since Lucifer mention depression I suspect he is so deeply depressed his relationships suffered. Speaking from experience, a classic move is fearing others hate you and not want you around, that your a burden or annoying to them. SO you limit your interactions. He says this was the first time she called HIM in years. He was probably too scared of chasing her away so he rarely reached out, hoping she would reach out to him. I suspect he didn't support her idea at first, not because he doesn't want to support her, but that he has tried the same thing before and failed. He wanted to protect her from becoming a target of Heaven. And with him unable to go outside his realm to heaven he cant protect her there. His trembling lip as he said goodbye and good luck shows how much he wants to be in her life and fears for her. His duck building is probably his distration with a depression fog. When your in the fog days fly by, you dont realize time skips so much, and depression can cause you to forget good interactions, so him forgetting she told him where she was is likely why. When she invited him to the hotel it was likely what pulled him out of the fog enough to finally be therefor her.

Lucifer was supportive of Charlie. He was trying his best not to let Charlie's dream be crushed by Heaven just like they did to him. He really is a good dad.

Yeah why would she take Charlie away when she was bonding with her dad and making him less depressed.

Lucifer's not an idiot or anything he's just crushed. He tried to help humanity by gifting them free will and was punished in the worst way possible - seeing only the absolute most horrible of humanity that came from his decision. He's also likely tried to help Humanity in the past, as he said he'd tried it all before and nothing good came of it - for all we know his and/or Lilith's attempts to help Hell led to the exterminations in the first place. The guy's a broken wreck who makes little ducks that probably remind him of a happier time of telling stories to Charlie before his family fell apart. He clearly loves her and as we see once they reconnect he is willing to help support her dream despite his utter terror that she'll end up in Heaven's crosshairs (e.g. how he pulled her away from the Heavenly weapons in the song opening). The part with Charlie as a child might indicate that Lilith didn't want Lucifer filling her head with his dreams (maybe they're too angelic and Lilith was more pro-demon). I do wonder if, when they split, did she take Charlie away and Lucifer being so broken and depressed (not to mention an awkward fellow) couldn't find a way to reconnect until this episode. Alastor is probably only trying to get under Lucifer's skin because his usual intimidation tactics aren't going to work - his power is as an overlord is nothing in the face of Lucifer's. Maybe some of Al's pettiness stems from something to do with whoever holds his Leash (e.g. if he has orders from Lilith) or it's just because he's an egotistical jerk who can't stand not being the powerful one in the room. And I totally agree with you. I hope we eventually get a more details backflash of what Luci went through with Heaven. _P.S. Loving the Patreon reactions_

Alastor saying "fuck you" was something i needed in my life

I think Lilith’s dark face is to represent Charlie’s vision. She wasn’t focusing on her mother, just wanting to be with her father.

He is depressed and dissociative. So he doesn't pay attention on purpose. He WANTS to pay attention seeing how desperate he is to reconnect with his daughter.

My theory is that Nifty is actually vital evidence as to the hinted problems with what gets people into hell, rather than an overlord. We already have Husker as one of the enslaved overlords. Instead of this perspective that we already get with him, I believe Nifty is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. You see, I've been having difficulties figuring out the point behind Nifty's character. She just... didn't really fit in. She seemed purely there for comedic purposes, and is just freakin' *odd* . I couldn't understand it. She is off her rocker, with extreme obsessions with a couple of stuff (cleaning, killing bugs, and bad boys). And she has absolutely bizarre behaviors like zoning out under camera, bashing herself against walls and floors to feel pain, etc. But then it started to click. She can't read social cues. She desires a relationship with the kind of individual known to be extremely abusive. Hysterical laughter. Inappropriate responses to social cues, because she is completely incapable of understanding the social environment filled with the deep discomfort she causes in others. Hyperactivity. Little understanding of the nuances of categories like "women" versus "men" as evidenced in the pilot. But what really made it click... is she's barely ten pounds soaking wet. She was a child, and a really underdeveloped one at that. But she's been alive for nearly a century as a sinner after her early death. Think about it. When you look at the fucked-up, overloaded orphanages in places like Romania, the behavior of kids go to hell in a haybasket. I'm talking asylum behavior, where they bash heads into walls or show stark neurodivergence. They are, to put it lightly, fucked up. There's even more to it! In the now-deleted Alastor comic, it was shown that he showed a, dare I say, moral philosophy to protect the weak and meek. AND Nifty has a *strong* father-daughter relationship with him. What do you think?

@@elfilin-to6dh Huh. That does kind of throw the current state of my theory out of the water. But! I think my theory can still incorporate this new facto with ease. Simply notate the fact that Hell tends to take important parts of your history, and then make your demon form all about it (Husker with his antennae-like poker-themed eyebrows, Sir Pentious losing his legs just to show what a slimy, low-to-the-ground personality he has, giving Angel Dust an eye reminisent of advanced syphilitis which he likely acquired as a prostitute, etc), and my hypothesized backstory for her having exaggerated effects on her body weight in demon form still hold water! In this case, she just made it to 22, despite being stunted emotionally and physically.

When Alastor said “you’re like the child that I wish that I had” it reminded me of this Fun fact: Alastor would look after a baby if I was abandoned but let it go when it got mature enough

It's interesting to note that Alastor told Mimzy off well out of earshot of the rest of the folks living at the hotel, and offered that she could stay if she genuinely wanted to seek redemption, even knowing that she would refuse the offer.

Fun Fact and new theory: In the universe of hazbin hotel, She made the animation in the first place, because some demon was so in love with charlie and wanted a video of that with her when he was alive and some of the demons who went to attack her were the familiars of that guy and they wanted to kill her because she "borrowed" 50k or scammed THAT guy with 50K, and did some more stuff that she mentions, and she searched a place where she could hide, in her research, she found out that alastor was in the hotel of the girl she made the animation about, and since she already knew where it was located, she went there to hide with the excuse that she was in the neighborhood and since alastor know her, she wouldn't have a problem staying there.

Fun fact: before vizipop officially made ALASTOR ace-sexual, he was supposed to be originally be a part of a relationship with mimzy, and apparently mimzy was supposed to be head over heels in the relationship

So, it's unlikely he'd hit on anyone with that intent (he's also Aromantic, so he likely doesn't feel romantic attraction, either). However, being Ace is a spectrum. There are sex-positive, sex-neutral, and sex-averse asexual people. There is no 100% answer, as yet, as to which flavor of Asexual he is. So, shipping, to some degree, isn't toxic. Just, unlikely.

I love how Mimmzi says that’s “the story”most people believe. Hinting maybe that isn’t the whole story. On Alastor for some reason the “Great Old Ones”aka Eldritch Gods come to mind often. Do not know why but they do.

Lucifer isn’t a demon. He is still an angel, just fallen and banished to hell. He still has his angelic powers.

In speaking of Lilith in this show, it could be that we are meant to sympathize more with Lucifer and Charlie then with Lilith. Also something to note is that Lilith is depicted in colder, more distant colors than Charlie and her dad are. Charlie and Lucifer are shown to be in yellows, reds and whites and in the warmth of the light, while Lilith is more of a silhouette that’s shown in blues, purples and in the shadows. It wouldn’t surprise me if we were to later learn that Lilith had a either had a great sadness in her or even more likely is extremely cunning at what she’s doing as well as being a bit of an ice queen as blue when shown in a negative light is the color for cold and sadness. The color purple on the other hand, can represent shiftiness and in some countries is the color representing death. Also purple is the color that’s in between red and blue and therefore it has a two-sided nature. So it’s possible that Lilith might be two faced. In other words, she’s a very dicey type of character who’s also royal as blues, reds and purples are colors for royalty. And as for the how we see her in the family portrait in the pilot, she’s wearing a pretty royal and salutary and slinky purple dress with her hair lose and a bit wild while Charlie’s hair is more tamed and controlled. In addition to that, Charlie’s eyes are wide and oval-shaped while her mother’s in contrast are sharpe, sly and hypnotic-snakelike. And if the show fallows the type of demon that religion often depicts Lilith as ( which is a scubas) then it shouldn’t be a surprise if Charlie has to also overcome her mom which could happen if Lilith is out for ultimate power and has been playing all of the different angles which would benefit her and one of these angles just might have been to give Charlie the idea that her father didn’t want to see her. It’s possible that Lilith might have done that as Lilith might have come to see Lucifer as pathetic and wasteful overtime and remember in that clip Lilith is carrying Charlie away from (and not to) Lucifer. She might have done this while developing and gaining ultimate power over all of Hell. Thus earning her several titles including The Queen of Hell and The Queen of Nightmares.

Next week will be the final two episodes of season one, and the voice acting for season two is in the midst of being recorded

Lucifer was deliberately avoiding charlie's request for caring and worrying for her i thought it was very obvious haha i'm so surprised some people did not get that from the start, only when he started singing "more than anything". cause to me the artists did a great job showcasing it in his expressions and body language and the va too in his tone

Before Alastor became an AroAce, before the Pilot draft of Hazbin Hotel, he and Mimzy were actually a couple. Now, they're basically really good friends. That's why Alastor doesn't go ham on her, because he does, actually, care about her, and he, likely, does like cleaning up her messes, because it does give him a means of, as he said, "blowing off steam." The problem is that he also cares about Charlie and her Hotel, and so there was kinda a conflict of interest. He welcomed her to stay, after all, but he knew that she's a little troublemaker who isn't likely to change, which is actually something he probably finds endearing about her, given how he dismissed Husker's concerns. Likely because it's not his style, either, obviously.

To answer your question, yes, according to vivzie, charlie CAN manifest wings. She also apparently has hooved feet that we can't see because of her shoes.

Alastor was having a bad day... first the king of hell shows up, who he's clearly got some personal grudge against, then one of his staff oversteps his boundaries in a big way and reminds him that he's someone else's pet. That's a lot of disrespect for a narcissist like him. At least when Mimzy brought the loan sharks, he got to let off some steam. Otherwise he'd have probably not been so polite in asking her to leave.

Eventually Al struck a deal with her, but he lost and his soul is hers. That's why he gets so mad when Husk says he's on a leash too. While this is all happening Al learns about Lucifer and how lazy he was, he has beef with him. So in the song where the pick at each other, he has all of his secrets from his wife. Pretty interesting theory, let me know what you think.

I actually sort of admire the patience Alastor exercised when dealing with Mimsy. although I wonder why he didn't just kill her since she was the reason why those demons who were wrecking the hotel had arrived in the first place. not to mention the fact it's clear he's not a fan of people disrespecting him like she did when she argued with him about being made to leave and all

I think in the final fight Emily will go to God and he will be the one to stop Adam and Lute and condemn them to become sinners and have to repent at the hotel to return to heaven. Because in this episode, it is said that no one knows what determines whether a soul goes to heaven or hell, only that it passes a divine judgment which confirms that God is indeed in the series. This would be the best way to introduce it and a perfect punishment for Adam and Luth convinced that redemption is impossible. And also maybe the archangels because I really think they will be because Lucifer has 6 wings like the seraphim but he is clearly not one after seeing Sera and Emily the most logical thing is that he is a archangel and therefore that there would be others like Michael

The reason they blocked out Lilith's face is probably for narrative reasons. If they showed her face, it would detract from what they're trying to put focus on: the past relationship between Lucifer and Charlie, and the fact that Charlie was inspired by her father's lofty dreams. Also interesting tidbit from a Live Q&A with Vivziepop: When asked about who is the better dad between Alastor and Lucifer, Vivziepop answered that it would be Lucifer, stating that she doesn't know how authentically fatherly Alastor is, explaining that in "Dad Beat Dad" Alastor wanted to get under Lucifer's skin and bother him and used Lucifer's wanting a relationship with his daughter to do so.

Here is my theory. I know this is probably going to be crushed by the algorithm or 100 people already have the identical opinion. Of course I think that the person who has Alastor's soul is Lilith. The timings are just too coincidental. And 7 is a very specific number, especially in this context. 7 sins, 7 rings, 7 years? Definitely going to have something going on with that. Secondly, the timing of Alastor's arrival. I think that he was definitely sent by Lilith to help Charlie, which is why she made the deal in the first place. To help Charlie in any way possible. And here is what cements this theory in my mind. Think back to how Alastor came by the Hotel in the first place. Via a television commercial. Notice anything strange about that? While this could be simply being hooked into it, I think that he watched it to gain an understanding of what he had to do. He is smart, but if he had gotten it from people around him, he probably would have had no idea what was wrong with it or if it even needed helping. He has also had a consistent dislike of television, going so far as to corrupt and destroy anything that might put his face to TV. He has antagonism with Vox, he voices his dislike whether it's asked or not, and he goes so far as to make a deal with Vaggie to make the commercial on the condition he never has to interact with it again. And after putting his powers to use to make the commercial, notice anything strange? He is sitting to the side, not even making a half assed attempt to watch it. So he'd rather ignore the fruits of his "passion project" than watch it, but prior to this, he walks into a broadcast with Charlie and becomes immediately hooked and interested. Why else would he have given such thought to it if he wasn't acting on instructions? 3rd, he doesn't seem to like Lucifer, like at all. He nigh despises him, which if you buy into the theory of his wife Lilith having made the deal, having his owner's husband come in and try to overshadow him isn't going to make him any happier. He also act's obviously happy and eccentric around Charlie, although he does make disparaging comments about it because he is an asshole, no matter what ways you cut it. To add on, he has some pre-existing hatred or disdain for Lucifer. Going so far as to throw his first swear bomb of the entire show at him. He actively antagonizes him through the song "Hell's Greatest Dad", and even says that he has been there for her, faithfully. Now this could all be a farce to get back at Lucifer for making fun of him, but he doesn't really react to most people that way. 4th, and I think is the most drastic bit that he cares about the Hotel, or forced to as this theory suggests, is that he threw away Mimzy for the simple fact that she brought danger to the Hotel. If he truly didn't give two shits about the hotel and was doing this for fun, he wouldn't have minded the occasional slaughter of loan sharks. He is definitely shown to be having the time of his life as he fights and terrifies people. He was a serial killer in life, so the fact he would turn down the prospect of killing more demons and spreading more terror is unlike what we know about him. Power isn't an issue, because he toppled overlords that had ruled for centuries and broadcast their tortured screams from his radio broadcast. He explicitly told Mimzy to leave unless she came back for the purpose of the hotel, which was to be redeemed, which she had no interest in. Last and certainly not least, we have to talk about what we know about him, and one of the points made was that he came out of nowhere and killed overlords that had amassed great experience over centuries of terror and control. He was a mortal serial killer from around the 1940's, because that's where the model of his radios come from based on structural analysis. So if we assume that this is occurring in the present day, 2020, and he died as soon as it came with 1940, that leaves around 80 years in Hell -7 years in confirmed stasis. So obviously this guy is experienced and knows his way around. Based on quotas, most killers, which Alastor is, start killing in late 30's at best, so let's put his age at 40 + 3 years as a usual killing spree range, so he has a cumulative average of 116 years of total experience. Again, previous overlords that had killed for centuries, indicating multiple. And that's even assuming they were facing the Alastor of today. He came out of seemingly nowhere and started to kill overlords, again, experience difference is nearly 5 times different. And get the fact he is a deal maker. This is pointed out by Vaggie, who makes the implication that a deal maker is a specific type of demon. And while we haven't seen many Overlord's abilities, only Vox, they do seem to rotate around their "themes". So explain to me how growing so big you are as big as the hotel you are defending, tentacles, portals, and summonable lackeys relate to radios at all. Vox was able to control every TV in the pride ring, and teleport via electricity. So if you line up the limited knowledge that we know, Alastor's abilities transcend other Overlords with no other apparent reason why. It's even directly stated that no mortal soul had gained such a power. He has the ability to apparently warp reality to some extent, given the static and song sequences, and who else can do that? Looking at you Lucifer. So to sum it up, he came here based on the whim of a medium he hates, has powers beyond the expectancy for overlords, threw out a fling he had because they endangered the hotel, declining the danger despite clearly enjoying it, and was away in the same timeframe as Lilith. Tell me your thoughts.

Lu is the strongest being in hell because hes an angle lil and Charlie have their power threw him. Charlie might end up being more powerful than her dad but at the same time he was cast out I don't think he's stronger than heaven.

The current theory is, like you are also suspecting, that Alastor sold his soul to Lilith making her the one who has him on their leash. According to this theory, the true reason he works with Charlie is because she ordered him to support her. Why he sold his soul to her varies depending on the version of theory. My personal favorite is that he sold it in exchange for the power to take down other sinners, especially Overlords, explaining how he went from a nobody to a walking nightmare seemingly overnight.

Alastor yanks on Husker chains just like Valentine did to Angel Dust and the fear in the eyes is exactly the same. Just as Husker told Angel you aren’t unique. Who knows what else he has committed against him it might even be compatible to what Val has done the difference was Val was a frickin Pimp/Porn director/produced Pornos and Alastor just killed and ate people as far as we know and has a better personality to make us like him All are in hell for a reason minus HellBorne , monsters and Fallen Angels( can be argued they too are there for a reason)

I don't think Alastor really fear anyone in hell.. like he just went toe to toe with Lucifer, the King of hell. Also.. Charlie may be powerful.. but I don't think she would be able to stand up to a lot of the beings in heaven, she probably be as powerful as Adam.. but That wouldn't really help her in an fight up there.
