Hay Ring Cone Feeder Video

Hay Ring Cone Feeder will save you money and forage. Watch this video for some facts and an overview of this hay ring.
I just purchased this hay ring, but I have done a lot of research on the different options of hay ring feeders and this seems to be the smartest long-term option. Traditional hay ring estimated at $200 and this cone feeder option is $600 at Co-op.
The estimated hay loss of these hay rings is ~5%, where a traditional hay ring is ~25%. If you feed 100 rolls of hay per year in a traditional hay ring that is an estimated $750 loss. If you feed 100 rolls of hay per year in the cone feeder, there is an estimated $125 loss. So, with that equation you save $625 with the cone feeder, factoring in your ~$400 purchase cost difference in the traditional hay ring and the cone feeder you have paid for the difference and saved $225 in that year alone.

I recall seeing something like this but custom made for finicky smaller animals like goats. It had a cover that collected rain water and small gauge wire grid under it to keep dropped hay off the ground. Worth its weight in gold !

Hey Matt, really enjoy your videos. As a first generation farmer myself, and fellow Tennessean, I glean lots of great information from your videos. Keep up the good work. We are getting our first Black Angus preg heifers in a couple of weeks. Really excited!!

It has seriously cut down on any wasted hay. I would say less than 2% of my hay is lost around the hay ring. It also has helped me save money by forcing the cows to eat all the hay, even the wet or less desirable parts because it stays in the hay ring. It was an extra cost, but just like I stated, it has translated to big savings for me compared my neighbors and friends who feed out of a hay ring without a cone insert. I would definitely recommend this cone insert for savings. It hasn't been to difficult to move, but it is heavier. Thanks for the comment.
