    My 2 day old heifer has poop like an egg yolk and pasty butt but looking at this I guess it’s normal to have sticky yellow poo. She’s perky and healthy acting. I was shocked by the color.

    Some tips. Double the length of your brace. I always put in 12ft corners so that my anchor post doesn’t lift. Also always use 12.5 gauge minimum wire. OK brand is best. If you can afford get the good tposts that have even spacings. Additionally, make sure you always pinch the short side of you clip because cows can stuck their neck through and pop your clips off, putting up 7 wires also is better than 5 for longevity.

    Well, it's been 6 years (according to when the video was posted). I'm curious how well your corner & brace posts have worked, only being 20"-24" in the ground. As well as the continuous use of t-posts...... It's your fence. So you can do it how you want....... But as an old man, & old school type of farmer/fence builder, I was taught to put all wood posts a minimum of 48" deep. And when using t-posts, put only 2-3 t-posts, then a wood, then t-posts, then wood, & so on. Especially when you intend to have horses or cattle. I know. Everyone has their own opinions on fences.😁

    Question. We have a 1 acre off grid property (160ft Front/Rear - 273ft both sides 866ft around) and have been looking at Barbed wire and field fencing. No animals to keep in or out. Have been wanting to use barbed wire, but have seen many putting wood posts every 50 ft or so and we hoped to only need T-Posts to make it happen with out needed wood posts if that possible. It's only for making boundry around and figured 3 strands around spaced 1 foot apart. Thanks for your time to answer.

    I see myself in a year. I just ran 200 feet of barb wire and need to do a gate and 80 more feet. I'm all in, immersing myself with all the various methods of setting and bracing posts and why everyone's way is the best blah blah blah. But anyhoo, it was very gratifying to run a fence and it's a skill everyone needs to learn. I consider myself a fencer now ready to make some money!

    Always put 2 h braces on a line fence cause time will pull the first post up out of the ground. Experience talking here.

    Very tidy work. Viewing from Ireland. What are T posts made of, and are they prone to rusting? Do you paint them as well, what type of paint. Thanks for the video, excellent work

  • @mirai3263
    @mirai32633 жыл бұрын

    T posts are made of steel or iron, where I live they come painted from the factory and they do rust but it takes a very long time and different lengths the length depends on the animals you will be keeping pinned up or personal preference. Edit: the older ones that have not been used are made from a high quantity metal than the newer ones.

    @@akwolf1434 I grew up around “it’ll work” attitude and got sick of cattle getting out. When I bought my own place, I put 6 strands on all my fences. No cattle getting out into neighboring pastures or on county road ways. There’s definitely no trying to poke their heads through for a bite of the “green grass” on the other side of the fence. Peace of mind is worth the cost to me.

    I'd say go deeper if you can on the posts, 3 ft or so and tamp gravel into the hole, also use the brace wire ratchet so you have an easier time with future maintenance, twisting it alone will not hold up as well long term, and you're not even leaving a lever in to hold it from unwinding over time edit: this is just from my research looking around so far, I have yet to actually make my first fence, properly anyways, my last one was a fiasco as my family started it with zero research or previous knowledge and I had to pick up with the same, next one I'll make sure to do properly

    Just trying to help, I'm a full time fence builder. Easy way to put the cross member or the horizontal post on the brace. I drive a 60p nail in the middle of both ends of the post leaving about a inch and a half sticking out, then I drill a 5/16" in each of the vertical post. Cut the head off of the nails and slide them in the holes. Easy by myself and cheap

    I like your wire spacing. I'm the flint hills of Kansas classically the t- posts are spaced one "rod" which is named after a surveyor's unit of measurement. A rod is 16.5 feet. Ranches are large and fencing 2-5 miles is not uncommon. 12 foot spacing uses 440 posts/ mile. 16.5 foot spacing is 320 t- posts/ mile. This is a savings of 120 posts/ mile, with $4.00 6 foot posts your saving $480/ per mile. Perimeter fences are usually 5 wire and interior cross fencing are 4 wire.

    Is there any advantage of bracing like this instead of the diagonal bracing using just one post coming off the corner post and going into the ground? In the UK thats the type of bracing we do I, I don't think I've seen bracing like you have here.

    The fence looks great! However, it's not a very good idea to put brace posts in such a shallow hole for a 7.5 - 8 ft post. You want at least the post to be three feet in the ground. Also, see how much extra post you have at the top? Even putting that post one more foot in the ground is gonna help it last a lot longer.
