    Countrys with the lowest crime rates have the harshest sentencing. If you don't think so , go look at what they do to drug dealers in Afghanistan. In America the average time between receiving the death sentence and it being cared out is 14 years. In China its 30 minutes......

Imagine how many innocent people have been murdered by the state in the two hundred years before forensic science existed. Even today, innocent folks are convicted.     He had a trial, was found guilty, and received an appropriate sentence. In this case, 114 years without parole seems most reasonable. This woman should not be confirmed.

    Everyone is entitled to fair representation; however when the facts are this horrendous, the sentence should fit the crime. 15 yrs or not; a life sentence should be commensurate w/this, sending a clear message that this type of crime is not tolerated for any age.     The people in these comments seem to want lawyer's to make moral judgements on their clients. It's insane most seem to consider themselves "patriots" but are willing to throw out some of the most basic Constitutional rights. They want to hold lawyers accountable for the individuals they represent. You'd think she committed the crimes reading the comments.

Our judicial system only works if all (incld ppl accused of egregious crimes) have adequate counsel. Essentially, Hawley is saying smart lawyers shouldn't represent poor defendants- who, btw, are innocent until proven. (Hawley is a weak, ambitious, prissy creep.) Often those who present themselves as patriotic are those, like in this thread, who so clearly hate our best institutional ideals.

    As a former serviceman, if my commanding officer had instructed me to do something that was wrong, I wouldn't have done it....right supercedes wrong in any case...granted that there would have been consequences, but we must be prepared to meet them....always...always do the right thing.

    As a woman who was human trafficed when i was a pre med student and sexually assaulted hundreds of times and never got justice. I find this video disturbing and beyond reprehensible. Im grateful we have people like senstor Hawley advocating for justice and womens rights. Because of my experience i never made it to becomimg a doctor because of the mental trauma i went through. I can never get my life back. Its true what mr. Hawley said.

They would then live in fear for their own lives. Let mom explain how she does her best to put evil people back on the streets to her scared kids.     No matter how much of a monster he is, every defendant must have rigorous lawful defense if for nothing else than to validate the harsh punishment. 141 year sentence...I would say the system worked. If she just said" pfft....he's guilty as hell judge" then how could you hold the high ground when it comes to sentencing.

    If everyone refuses then justice can't be done. A trial can't be had. If a defendant cannot get a fair trial with competent legal representation that argues vehemently on his behalf, then he must be let go. What happens if you're accused of a crime and all lawyers refuse to represent you because your politics will hurt their brand? Everyone deserves to be represented. Even as heinous as the crimes he committed were, and believe me I would volunteer to put him on the wall and handle it myself had that verdict came down, but he still deserves a fair trial

    If she is his advocate, she should sign a waiver to allow the perpetrator to live with her upon release and that she experience the same punishment as him if he offends again. Then I would believe in her commitment.

    I get that even the worst dirtbag deserves a vigorous defense; but I contrast this with what people thought about the judge who was lenient on the 17 year old who violently raped a drunk girl. If you want a reasonable legal defense, make one; but don't try to pretend monsters deserve the same kind of consideration humans do.
