Have you visited this state in Malaysia? 🇲🇾 | Perlis, Malaysia Vlog 2023
We ventured into a state where many of our Malaysian friends admit they've not actually visited.
Despite the locals being so friendly in Alor Setar (and unrivalled!) we found the locals here being even more talkative and a lot of genuine interest to chat.
Unfortunately time was of the essence and we had to rush back to KL - we so only doing an afternoon here, before anyone says anything we've done Padang Besar etc etc before both sides! Lol!
Gutted to have missed out on the viewpoints though
Have you been here?

I studied at Arau, Perlis back in 2002. Perlis was a 'cowboy' place.very isolated at the very end of northern peninsular. The temperature there at that moment was very hot as compared to other states in Malaysia. Living in Perlis for 3 year forsake of my Diploma. However, I've collected very precious moments and memories. Trust me there's nowhere in Malaysia could beat Perlis' cheapest food price. Go find restoran pokok sawa. It was very famous for authentic malay dish. :)

@@VeggiesOnTour 'cowboy' town for Malaysian means a small town with very minimal development. Like no giant mall, surrounded with vintage/ old school shops/market, no night life/ entertainment. Like everything is so basic. Not to say Perlis is a not developed state. It is a relaxing, calming and peaceful state ❤️
Awak sudah pandai cakap Malayu sedikit sedikit Sir🤭👏👏.zaman japun menjajah Malaya.negara British yang banyak membantu malaya.di zaman itu orang British fasih berbahasa Melayu.kami sanggat berterima kasih kepada negara anda Sir.🙏🤝
My girlfriends & i visited Timah Tasoh, Wang Kelian, Gua Kelam ( gorgeous views), Kuala Perlis for seafood, ate breakfast at Warung Tepi Sawah ( by the serene green paddy field), the border town Padang Besar( i bought loads of nuts, i went crazy with macadamia nut still in the shells). We love the beauty of Perlis ❤
You guys are in my hometown! 🥰 Have fun exploring! Nature, People and Food. You can try find the traditional kueh at Pasar Malam, Nat or Morning Market, Market (dry & wet market), Agro Market, Kuala Perlis dry/dried food shops. Fun fact... people in Perlis call the wet and dry market = (Market) "Mur" "Kate". Mur like in hammer. ☺️
people in perlis are the most friendliest people in whole Malaysia, seeing this video and the places i used to walk as a student gives me nostalgic i miss perlis and whole Malaysia used to study there in 2020
Suka how humble and friendly down to earth you both are . Stay well happy and healthy .
you guys make very good vlog. rare and interesting. unique. why you guys very underrated. 👍
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your explorations in Malaysia.
Very informative. I live also in malaysia. I love this country
kangar is malaysia's garden city. the whole of perlis state is kangar city, under the mayor of kangar. it is rich in game parks and wildlife parks. flora and fauna city. it is also very rich in limestone hills and is the limestone capital of malaysia, second being my parents' home city ipoh. perlis is small but it punches above its weight. some of the best actors and actresses come from this state. there is this man named namron or shahili abdan, he has acted in cutting edge malaysian films which have been screened in international film festivals in korea and italy and canada. and the soap opera queen of malaysia, rita rudaini mokhtar, is one of the most famous household names from perlis. long ago perlis was part of kedah but the sultan of kedah decided to give his district perlis independence under his nephew, the datuk of perlis who was upgraded to a full fledged sultan titled the raja of perlis.
Omg!!! in that video i’m not ready 😂😂😂 plus with my bareface 😂😂 btw thank you for coming to our cafe❤ hope both of you are doing well🥰 please come again!

It was great to meet you! 😂 - you were both super friendly - we'll definitely be back to the cafe next time we're in Perlis!
Perlis was famous for the sugar cane plantation operated by sugar tycoon and padang besar border. Wang Kelian is the best place for shopping..
Their geographical location is also a big reason why. it's way up north and there's nothing too touristy about it or even around it. so you don't even get through them to get to somewhere else, it's already at the peak of the country. however nowadays it's getting more visited than before tho
Love Kueh dangai....very traditional....it is not easy to find it nowadays...
Yes easy going town. I been to Perlis few times. Glad you go check it out.

OmG guys! He wasn't asking for _kuih kertas_ who wants to eat a piece of paper??? He was trying to say _kuih karas_ lah!!! 🤦♂️ Usually that kind of food item is easier to find in something like a _medan niaga_ (market square) or _pusat penjaja_ (hawkers centre), usually it's a complex of 2 blocks in a row or 4 blocks arranged in a rectangular shape, with a courtyard in the middle, between 1 to 3 storeys, tenanted by local shops. Some of them would be selling local products either crafts, clothes or food, some others may be barbers or salons, tailors etc. Another place that may have such traditional food would be either the _pasar malam, pasar minggu or pasar tani_ (night, weekly or farmer's market). I think towards _bukit kayu hitam_ which is the tiny border town before thailand, there is such a _pasar_ and also a _pusat penjaja._ Good luck!
Kangar, off the tourist trail again, love it, also another of those named old 747-400's reg 9M-MPE was named Kangar, been on that one too. My wife and son are home now and bought some gold more back with them from Kuching, most of the gold in Malaysia is 22ct (916), she bought a new gold chain, a new wedding ring that fits and had a chain we previously was bought repaired. RM4450.00, A chain and ring of that quality would be double that back here. You pay for the weight in gold plus workmanship, but the workmanship is better priced than back home in the UK. Gold we bought previously in 1995/97/ etc in Malaysia has multiplied in value by 5 times since then. I would buy something if you can, we have never regretted buying gold there. Gold price per gram is similar, but the quality is higher, most gold here in the UK is 9ct and 18ct and an 8g, 18ct chain costs twice the price of the gold value. In Malaysia it doesn't. You have again met some lovely people on your travels.

you should try traditional Javanese ethnic food, name 'Sambal Tahun', almost similar to 'Masak Lemak Cili Api', but more spicy because it is based on a lot of chili, this food is not available in the city, you can try it around Johor state village areas, Selangor state in the Klang and Banting districts, also you will find this food in the Perak state bordering Selangor, only the Javanese community knows how to cook it, not many Malays know, it is suitable to eat with rice during lunch, if you have the chance, try it, you will not meet this food like the food that elsewhere in Malaysia, look for village areas and Javanese people, very tasty, not many Malaysians know this food.
