Yup. May 2018. Quit my job and left California headed for Chicago. No plan and everything I own in my truck and a U-Haul trailer. I was homeless, living in a leaky camper with no running water or electricity. My job had gone pretty shitty after 5 years and my only close family had moved to Chicago a few months before. I really had nothing to lose. Currently living in Lincoln, Nebraska and doing pretty good.

Actually just did this a while back. Hated the job, felt constantly punished for doing it well, and the corporate culture was just a terrible fit for me overall. Gave my two weeks and went back to college in hopes of never having to take one like it again. So far, so good, and I don't regret it at all.

My husband did and although it was a tough 3 mos he used that time to get his hazard endorsements and ended up finding a better job delivering propane.

Two of them. The first was fast food; I was getting maybe 3-4 hours once a week and mostly was used for cleaning. Had to clean vomit; was also trying to work a second job, and they were being inflexible with the small amount of hours they gave me. Second was foods at at amusement park. I had a mental breakdown on shift after a customer tried to punch me for having to ID him for alcohol. Immediate resignation and gone.

I used to work at a speedway where the boss had a natural hate towards men, I'm talking getting ready to fire me over a female coworkers phone being left on the counter and claiming it was my phone just cause I was in the shot and when I pulled out mine she just said "oh you can go now". Never even talked to the girl about it and she only found out when I told her what happened a month ago. She was always hard on the guys for small things while the women there could get away with just about anything. Cut to when there's only 5 guys to like 16 chicks and after a night where a female coworkers did fuck all work and I had to handle that on top of trying to do my own work and getting yelled at in the morning I went home and broke down. After talking with my father about what happened I wrote a letter went in and resigned I should've went off on her but when she acted surprised I just said fuck it I'm done and left. One week later the hospital I applied to 7 months ago called me and offered me a job, now I'm working in transporting biohazard waste and its so damn easy and haven't had a bad day there yet

Yes and still ended up with a better job. I resigned when I was a manager responsible for £1m of stock and found a male, holding my previous and junior position of Sales Supervisor was paid the same as me as "he was a man".

I had to unexpectedly retire after having eye surgery. I thought my eyes would recover and I could go back to work, but due to the aggressive form of galuxoma I have, I couldn't go back. I also can't drive anymore and instead I'm enjoying life as a housewife taking care of my husband to the best of my ability and he appreciates it ❤

I was the busiest worker bee for many years without any problem. I loved almost every aspect of my job... But I haven't worked for like 4 months now. So much has changed. I think I surprised myself and everyone else when I quit. I dont think I regret it though. I've travelled some and am a little healthier. Starting to run out of money though. All my savings, but fuck it, some things are more important and you only live once. Need to go back to work but I dont know if I'm ready.

Worked for Jack in the Box for almost a year as an assistant manager. My first X-mas Eve the GM put me over night with a new cook and no one else. Had a line around the building for 4hrs straight. I decided to close the store so me and the cook could restock the line and get a short break. The shift manager showed up to start his shift that would have overlapped mine for a few hours and I told him about my night. He said he warned the GM about how crazy it would be and she didn't care. So I didnt reopen the store and sat in the dinning room playing MTG with him till I was ready to leave. Told him to reopen whenever he wanted.

Just did this last month and my last day was July 1st - had been working at the place for years (childcare, next month would’ve been my 4th anniversary there) it was hard to say goodbye to my coworkers, the kids and their families but I just had to. Currently still living with my parents (but would like to get my own place once I get a new job) so I knew I’d be okay for temporary unemployment but I had been pondering quitting for months and was hoping to have either a new job or grad school lined up when I quit) but one morning before leaving decided enough was enough - wrote my two weeks notice out and felt instant relief upon handing it in. Here’s to hoping I can find a (ideally library) job soon but it’s been nice having some time to finally rest after working overtime most weeks. Grateful for supportive family and friends and am hoping to make other changes in my life - like finally dating and getting my driver’s license

Since I've started working I've had on average a new job every year some people have left there jobs of 10+ because I showed them how easy it was to move on if you're a good reliable worker and each job is another notch on my resume with bosses that vouch for me ofcourse that isn't always the case and u won't out down a bad reference 😅

When I left the Army my aunt sold me on being a teacher in her school district she worked for. I was hesitant about being a public school teacher and as I’m driving to meet her at her work, I begin noticing I’m driving in a questionable part of town. I walk in so I could meet my aunt and another admin staff member who would be interviewing me. I show up a few minutes early and see that a LOT of these kids have attitude problems; makes sense considering the part of town I’m in. I had bad vibes driving to the place and things wouldn’t feel any better for me. I go in for the interview and a red flag popped up: They had a teacher shortage and were desperate to hire anyone willing to teach. I was hesitant for work so I took the job anyway. Well, my first (and only) day there, I am shown to my classroom. I tried reassuring myself that things wouldn’t be so bad, but to my surprise, my class had some bad apples. I could hear trap music blaring in that room 30 feet from the hallway. It was loud as hell, kids dancing on tables, kids yelling at each other and I could’ve sworn a fight was going to break out in the corner; I’m not even joking. I must’ve taken two steps in to see one “badass” giving me a stare down and some young thot licking her lips at me in a flirtatious manner. I immediately “nope’d” the fuck outta there, went straight for my car and drove the hell outta there never to return. I got a call from my aunt later that day but I didn’t answer. She left a voicemail berating me for what I did and that “all these kids are ‘wonderful’ whether they don’t realize it”. That was 3 years ago and I haven’t spoken to her since I ended up finding a part-time job while going to college full-time on the Post-9/11 GI Bill and have since took on a comfy banking career. Everyone in there are professional and the customers are well-mannered and mostly polite.

I quit a job of 6 years because not even my vacation days made me fill refreshed. It's like my mind built up a tolerance to them because of the dreariness of my job. After a while, you need to take vacation days more and more just to feel sane. Before I could wait until the end ofcthe year before I took a week off.

Yes, used to work for a curtains and upholstery company who gave its employees the bare minimum; wage, holiday allowance, time to complete projects (one day to do a massive pair of curtains completely from scratch) fire escapes - actually where I was there wasn’t a fire escape if the stairway got blocked. Supervisor was a bully and loved mind games. I wasn’t her only victim but I was the first to crack. Quit after just over a year. Still no regular source of income and I had to cut a lot of expenses but it’s really nice to not wake up dreading having to go in there and face her again. It will be okay. Management knew all about it but didn’t do anything, so hell them too.

Yup. I found out I was expected to make 12 more minutes happen every hour to meet quality standards and rate. When i informed them of it they said we know, just do your best, and proceeded to threaten no raises for under-rate, and firing and write ups for off-process. Every day "rate and process!" "I told you its not possible" "corporate knows, they want it done anyway" i gave em my two week notice and left them understaffed on the third day on the hardest (mathematically impossible) job. Havent made that much money since but it was worth it. Fuck those people

i had a pretty sweet position as seed and seedling propogation in a production nursery. it was one of the first places i experienced not being micromanaged to any degree. they let me go off the property to collect seeds. the owners weren't always terrible but they had things and moments. like, they hired a lot of undocumented mexican workers and each year in november they would call in INS and dudes had to hop the fence to get away. it was a known tradition. they did this to thin the employee count before winter when there is less work. everyone else got $100 christmas bonuses. in the '90's. so, not bad in some ways, in others yes. i had been there two years and being my own department head i was trusted to some degree and i must have felt this stood for something. people wanted to wear sunglasses but they were not allowed because you could be hiding red eyes. the deal is that this is southern arizona and the place was lined in white gravel. if you watered pots all day, which several people did including myself, your head would be bursting by the end of the day. he wore prescription eyeglasses with flip shades and said anyone with a doctors note could do the same. so i started wearing sunglasses in protest, second day, told to take them off or walk out. it was a long time before i found any job near that pleasant. the boss and his wife could both be LOUD and crazy yelling at people. they liked that. it was funny tho, had a coworker who was clever at giving them insults that soudned like compliments. one time his wife came over to yell at people but before she got there a woodpecker flew onto the dead saguaro in the middle of the area and started hammering, which they do as a public service sometimes. haha even bird know you. often regretted that.

In 2015, I quit my job at Panera Bread after a month because I wasn't being trained in other areas like running register or making salads. They had me bus tables and wash dishes the entire time there, it was so frustrating. I was working an eleven to seven shift with my mother and she approached me to say if I wanted to leave and go to school, I could. Later that night, I got told the boss lady wanted to see me the next day. I was seriously thinking she was going to fire me. I got dolled up in a little black dress, put some jewelry and makeup on, bought a dozen donuts and went in waiting for her to see me because she was already preoccupied with another person. When she called me over, I chatted with her about my performance gleefully, handed her the box of donuts and told her I quit, walked out of there feeling like a champion. I focused on school for a while until I hit a roadblock because I switched majors after the deadline to switch it without consequence. I can't go back until I pay them. That, along with the passing of my dear old dog Benny, caused me to fail my semester. I didn't get a new job until April of 2017, but got canned in less than one week due to low sales (telemarketing sux, dont do it). I got a new job in July in retail and have been working there since.

I quit on my father, I would end up hating him if I continued working for him, he’s a terrible boss, blames everyone for things he does wrong and thinks he’s always right, I couldn’t take it anymore, we would just fight while my brothers would run away afraid of saying anything to our father’s face. The last drop was when one of my brothers forgot to do something, and my father started ranting over it for almost an hour, when I tried to say that he simply forgot, my father turned on me and started saying horrible things, I just gave up, I said some truths and the next day I didn’t show up, best decision ever.

I was trying to get my master's degree and despite that being the only company that didnt offer tuition reimbursement they kept piling on more work until i decided to just leave. I finished my master's and am taking a little break to hang out with my parents as i didnt get to see them very often. Dont have anything lined up yet, but i sure as hell am a lot happier.

If I was as stupid as they thought I should be glad to have that job. If I was as smart as I thought I would buy a sailboat and cruise the Caribbean. Six months to find the right circumstance, two years hard work, 1st X-Mas in the Bahamas, second in Trinidad, third in Florida, with a season in the Goldfields of the Klondike on each end of the sailing adventures. Until we decided on this future my wife and I had never seen the ocean.
