Have we found the Original Muhammad? Mel thinks so!

Ойын-сауық

Because everything we know about Muhammad comes from the 9th-10th centuries, a good 200-300 years after the fact, Mel from ‘Sneaker’s Corner’ and Jay felt it appropriate to return to the 7th century, when he supposedly lived, to investigate whether they could actually find him, and compare him with what the later Islamic Traditions say about him. This is then what Mel came up with:
If a real Muhammad led an invasion against the Byzantines and Persians in the 7th century, and came from the Hijaz area of Arabia as the traditions tell us, then there must be something written about him during that century; yet, we cannot find a thing that early, nor that far south.
They came to a leader in that area named ‘Mahmet’, who agreed to help them, because of their ties back to Abraham, but this Mahmet was a leader and well respected, unlike the Traditional Muhammad, who was an orphan, not a leader with any clout, and certainly not a person who could read or write.
The ‘Fragments Of The Chart Of Jacob Of Edessa’ (692 AD), and the ‘Ad Annum 705’, as well as the Byzantine-Arab Chronicle (741-754), and the Zuqnin Chronicle (ca 775) all suggest this Mahmet was a king and had a lot of authority.
Thomas the Presbyter (writing in 640 approx) says this Muhammad was the leader of the Tayaye:
To understand who this was we need to go back to 618 and look for a rebel leader in that year.
The Saracens rebelled in 618, the seventh year of the Byzantine emperor Heraclius, and appropriated for themselves Syria, Arabia, and Mesopotamia. They incited all of the frontier cities of the empire and finally rebelled openly, shaking the yoke from their necks. (The Hispanic Chronicle of 754)
Other sources say a king among them was selected 4 years later in 622, appointed by the Arabs because he could unite the factions.
John bar Penkaye (690), mentions that The Lord gave them two leaders from the beginning of their kingdom and divided them into two sections, so we need to find 2 leaders who jointly lead together.
These could be Mu’awiya of Damascus (in the West) and Ali in Hira (to the East), but victory fell to the Westerners called Ummayyads. A man among them named Mu`awiya, took the reins of government of the two empires: Persian and Roman.
Further confirmation of two leaders comes from the Chronicle of Fredegar (7th century, earliest copy,715!)
So, we are looking for a Lakhmid king from 618, who became a rebel. Ideally, someone who was kicked out of a city (for example Hira) close to that year (from which to create the “Hijra out of Mecca” legend later on), and who later reconquered this city.
We know that Hira was conquered by the Saracens, under Muhammad’s General Khalid. Following the Battle of Hira, the city was captured by the Saracens under the command of Khalid ibn al-Walid in May 633.
Did Muhammad have in addition to the title “Muhammad” any nickname to help trace him?
Possibly, Al Bukhari refers to ‘Ibn-Abi-Kabsha’ (son of the father of the sheep) as the prophet Muhammad.
The Doctrina Jacobi (636 AD), refers to the Byzantine king Heraclius, who has a dream that someone who is circumcised would be the leader of the land, and then was told that not only Jews but Arabs also practice circumcision. The Arabs practiced circumcision because they followed the religion of Abraham (Abrahamism).
Mel believes Abrahamism was the religion which incorporated both Jews and Arabs in the line of Abraham, and the Umayyads took most of their theology and later made it into Islam.
The leader of the al-Tayaye is Ilyas ibn Qabisah al-Ta’I, which is his official name, while Muhammad was his nick name, or ‘nom de guerre’. Note how close Ibn-Abi-Kabsha’ (Al Bukhari’s reference to him in the 9th century), and Ilyas ibn Qabisah al-Ta’I (his name in the 7th century) are.
Note also how this contradicts the later Traditions of Muhammad. Thus, all of the later minutiae surrounding Muhammad’s biography is nothing more than made up nonsense. This 7th c. Muhammad was given 30 villages by Khusraw along the Euphrates, proving he was of a high status, and not poor as the traditions intimate.
Khusraw, the Sassanian king needed someone in the Lakhmid area, in Hira, to control the Lakhmids from raiding his territory, so he appointed Ilyas b. Qabisah as the first and last non-Lakhmid governor in Hira between 602-617, and then became a rebel and a leader for the Arabs in 622, once he was deposed, and led them against the Sassanids. Thus, the reason 622 was chosen later on to denote Muhammad’s ‘Hijra’ from Mecca to Medina, because the Arab identity began then.
So, it looks like the later traditions have the wrong Muhammad, and the real Muhammad lived much further north, was wealthy, and is credited with beginning the Arab rebellion against both the Sassanians and the Byzantines around 622 AD.

@Clandestino Bible corrupt conspiracy nutjobs Here's the theory The argument is that some faction of the Church (obviously representing the majority as this view won): Wanted the trinity formula in Matthew. Willfully altered manuscripts of Matthew 28:19. Sought out and destroyed all manuscripts of Matthew 28:19 containing the short reading. Then went through the writings of the Ante-Nicean Fathers and altered their quotations of Matthew, destroying all other copies. * However, these conspirators, who had so little respect for Scripture that they altered it and were so careful as to destroy every copy of Matthew with the short reading, left intact the so-called original verse in Luke 24:47 (which is not a baptismal formula and is not a parallel to Matthew 28:19)* and all references to Jesus' name baptism in Acts and the Epistles! If this willful alteration is being done in Matthew, why stop there? Why not change Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38; 8:12, 16; 10:48; and 19:5? These five verses in Acts all refer to Jesus' name baptism or being baptized in Jesus' name (once, in the name of our Lord). None of them have textual variants of a trinitarian formula. Logically, if the conspirators made the change once, they would make the change in other places. At the time which this conspiracy is supposed to have taken place (Nicea, AD 325), the de-facto canon had been used and recognized since Iraneus. Matthew, Luke, and Acts were already recognized as Scripture. *Matthew 28 takes place in Galillee while Luke's is in Jerusalem. Luke contains only statements of repentance and remission of sins while Matthew also speaks of teaching and baptism. Another failing of this conspiracy is that they missed Eusebius, one of their contemporaries. Eusebius was a trinitarian and a powerful figure in the church. Yet, while they changed all quotations of Matthew 28:19 from the short to long in all the Ante-Nicean Church Fathers, they missed a few places in Eusebius but got his others. How did they manage to get all of the others yet miss some of one of their own? If this were a conspiracy, it was a rather inept conspiracy as it left intact so many other verses in Scripture while managing to replace all versions of Matthew 28:19 with the new one. *credit Frank Luke I do not have rhe NIV. But have a vast warehouse of information on the Trinity, greek word for "threeness". Now before you get hung up on words used to describe a truth found in scripture. Islam also has at least one word like that also, "Tawheid". And I can point to other words used in christian systematic theology that are not found in the body of scripture. Let us continue along that path islamic polemics is mired in. If we cannot use any word not found in the Bible or Koran not in the original language. Then most of what we say about either is invalid. Can you follow that reasoning? Yes it is taking your argument to it's logical conclusion.

@@MAYBE673 Nope. I don't believe God the Son of God modulated into the Angel of the LORD, rather see Hebrews 1:1 My point is in Islam, God does not enter creation. However, this account suggests that whatever this proto-Mohammed taught followed the accounts in Genesis, which show God entering creation and meeting Abraham. The Koran, as it is a work of invention and plagiarism, also describes God entering creation; it does so when it borrows the story of Moses and the Burning Bush. But that's Islam, inherently self-contradicting.

Iyas not elyas dear Dr. Smith, after all it was a great Video.. also it's one from many historical and linguistic evidences that show that "Arabs" are not a national or a human race, but here we talk about a polar side, and we "who know the Arabic language" know that Friday was called "Àroubta/ Arouba" and it is derived from the Christian Syriac, where this day became known as a day The sunset of the sun (Great Friday or Passion Friday, and in Syriac, which it used in Akkedian as well as, erebu meaning Sunset) and this also refers to the sunset as a polar destination, and this name continued even after the completion of the Arabic language formulation in Iraq between the schools of Kufa and Basra, and this can be observed in the Arabic poems at those days, so it is natural for the Arminian's sources to name these peoples the Western peoples while the Jews call them as It is mentioned in The Doctrina Jacobi (636 AD) in the form of Saracen / Saraken, which is a Syriac word meaning Eastern people "Sharqen".

The reason for that is because in 590 when khosrow was running away to take refuge in Roman Empire from Bahram Choobin the commander of Persian Army, Iyas helped khosrow and facilitated his escape by giving him horse and food for the journey. Khosrow came back to the power from 591- 628, in that period he made Iyas a Lord and gave him 4000 troops!

They've been knitted together to please two different groups of believers, but with an Arab prophet at the top. Of course, there are other strands of religion woven into the quran. I feel that in many ways the idol worship of the black rock is actually the big give-away to the nature of this religion.

If Islam started in what is now Iraq, rather than Arabia, it would help explain how it appeared to spread so quickly. My theory is that a lot of what we think we know about Muhammad is the work of a satirist who was trying to create a fictional worst possible man, an example of what NOT to do. That would explain why so much of the orthodox account is shoddy, if not disgusting.

I am friended with an anti-Zionist rabbi. Yes believe it there are many. I borrowed so many books. Many contradictions but with all stories I have read I have learned what must be true and what are lies. Muhammed wrote the Quran for the same reason Adolf Hitler wrote Mein Kampf. We are told / we learn that Jihad is war, it isn't. Jihad means ; Strive for peace. Mein Kampf means ; Strive for peace. You will probably call me something like a liar but the truth is you can't handle the truth. Muhammed ran of from the wars somewhere between 600AD and 700AD to a cave where always was fire coming from holes in the cave (close to a silk route ) ( That tribe robbed people on the silk route. In Georgia they have a song about white rabbits and a fox ( look for black fox but don't believe ms Dietrich made a film about the Wild West , it's a lie. In that cave he met a man whom said that his tribe were ruthless savages and that man brought him 'The Old Testament of Palestine' Muhammed took pages out of that book and listened to what that man had to say ( I leave out his name ) The man told about kidnapping a dark skinned rabbi from Ethiopia named Daniel. Daniel was so upset about his kidnapping that he taught lies to that tribe that later became the Talmud. The tribe whom robbed people on the silk route were not really defeated but they kept murdering many other tribes like what is now Georgia some people of the tribe settled in Odessa and some followed a river called the Danube where people of that tribe settled somewhere near. Those people created a language called Yidish.. Well anyway a have a lot more to tell but I'll create a website. The problem in the world in politics and wars and so on is because of Zionist Jews. Watch the movie 300, it is a message based on true history but the 300 where invited by Theodor Herzl in Basel. Well anyway maybe I will add some history-facts later.

Your theory about Muhammad and Muawiya being competing leaders of interesting because of the following narration in the Shia Hadith collection: Sharh Nahjul Balagha 5/129-130- Among the indications of Muawiyah’s malice towards Holy Prophet (S) is the matter that Matraf bin Mughairah has narrated: “I went to Muawiyah along with my father. My father used to visit him often and upon returning speak about Muawiyah and his intelligence, and he used to be astonished at him. Finally when he returned one night he did not even eat his dinner and I found him depressed. I waited for a while thinking that this depression was only because of something related to us. At last, I asked him, ‘Why do you look so aggrieved tonight?’ he replied, ‘Today I am coming from the worst infidel and the vilest person.’ I asked, ‘Who is that?’ My father replied, ‘Today, I told him (Muawiyah) in private: O Master of the faithful! You have reached an age when it would have been better if you had acted justly and nicely and looked at your brothers (i.e. Bani Hashim) with kindness and improved relations with them. By Allah! Today they have nothing, which you may fear and you shall always be praised due to this good deed and rewarded by Allah.’ Muawiyah said, ‘Alas! Alas! How can I hope for the endurance of remembrance? See, a man of the Teem tribe (i.e. Abu Bakr) became a ruler. He acted justly and did what he should have done, till he finally died, and with him his memory also perished; just his name, Abu Bakr remains. Then a man from Adi tribe (i.e. Umar) became the ruler. He struggled for many years till he finally died and his memory also ended, except that just his name is mentioned as Umar. But see how the name of Ibn Abi Kabsha58 is called out five times a day: “I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.” Now after this which deed of mine and name shall endure? By Allah, there is none except Him, except that they shall be buried (destroyed)."

They can only find the truth if they ask this question. Similarly, they should ask " who is Allah", and " Where does the Qura'n originates from"? Without answers to these questions Muslims will never know the truth.

With Jay's permission, I can come back and tie up those loose ends and show you how Petra ties in with this thesis. The Iraqi thesis that I can present will locate where the "Madina" trope comes from historically, will explain the real reason for the AH dating, and most importantly give compelling evidence for who the qur'an's audience really was and where it was produced initially, and it wasn't in a Mecca as some imagine but somewhere else.

Jay, I have ALWAYS loved your Pfander Films presentations but I have to say today's episode has to be my favourite. Just when I thought that nothing could beat Dan Gibson's discoveries on Mecca/Petra and the Qibla direction(s) Mel comes up with something even more spectacular and like Gibson's arguments; Mel's hang together astoundingly well. The traditional accounts of Middle Eastern ancient history have collapsed thanks to you, Al Fadi, Hatoun Tash (including her over-sized coffee mug), Mel, David Wood and I'm sure a host of others who have recently been working on these issues. I would like to make a special call-out to Robert Spencer who first brought it to public awareness in 2012, through his book 'Did Muhammad Exist', that Muhammad was more likely a sobriquet than a person's name. That takes nothing away from Mel's investigation which essentially had to make that presumption in order for his investigation to work itself out to its logical conclusion which resulted in today's presentation. I just want to give Mr. Spencer priority on the claim. In fairness, Robert Spencer in the opening of his book made it clear that nothing he presented was NEW or INNOVATIVE. It was all based on Western scholarship on Islam; some of which was done in the early part of the 19th century. So, I suspect the sobriquet idea may finds its origins back then. Whatever the case, thanks to all listed in this comment. You have changed the world and for the better.

I wonder why the search and insistence that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) was in Petra?? Petra was discovered in 19th century. All His life Prophet Muhammad (PbuH) was in Makkah a camel shepherd. He engaged trading. . . . Makkah was constructed by Abraham and his eldest son Ismael by his Egyptian wife, Hagar. Kaabah is built on a place where a water spring when Ismael left in the desert was hungry and thirsty. Accordingly, a water (called Zamzam) came out near the feet of a child Ismael then Hagar feed the child by her hand with the water. Years after, Prophet Abraham called his son to help him build a house of His god, thus the Kaabah was built, near the Spring of Zamzam, the water still exists till today in Kaabah. Khalid ibn Walid is Christian who converted to Islam under Abu Bakr' do not refer him as Prophet Muhammad. . .

@@BaibonnDilangalenSangid-fv9qk Hi B.D.S. Thank you for your reply. I have to say your comments have no bearing on the issue EXCEPT this: Petra wasn't discovered in the 19th century. It had been visited by the crusaders and before that by Roman Emperor Hadrian who may have 'coined' the name Petra (which is the Latinized form of the Greek word for stone) and did so literally when he minted coins with his name on the obverse (i.e. front side of the coin) and the name of the city (i.e. the name he gave to the city) on the reverse (back side of the coin). For more details see this article on one such coin: en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces86119.html The term 'discovered' is used for Petra because the city itself was blocked off from the non-Muslims after the crusades ended and remained so until in 1812 Swiss traveler, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, tricked his way into the fiercely guarded site by pretending to be an Arab from India wishing to make a sacrifice at the tomb of the Prophet Aaron. You may have actually asked the right question but in the wrong way. Why was Petra so fiercely guarded over the centuries? Well, if you have been following archaeologist Dan Gibson's research and Dr. Jay Smith & company's research; the answer to that question is to prevent the discovery of a hidden truth about Petra . . . it is the lost city of Mecca. Modern day Mecca in Arabia was created later. As has been pointed out by many, Dr. Jay Smith included, that Dr. Patricia Crone, who had access to almost all of the trading documents from the trade routes (caravans etc.) of this period, found NO REFERENCE TO MECCA until the middle of the eighth century! This claim has been born up in modern times. Mecca is currently under construction and NO archaeological evidence has turned up in that city. In fact, the Saudi government is making NO EFFORT to have archaeologists on the construction site to protect artifacts that may be dug up by the construction equipment. Strange that that should be the case seeing as Islam claims this to be the first and therefore the oldest city. This is the city where Muhammad was born and this is the city were Kadijah's house is/was found. [By the way, Petra is turning up archaelogical information all the time and the foundations of that city apparently do go back as far as 9,000 BC! I'll tell you where I put my bets when it comes down to which of these two cities is the original (real) Mecca and it won't be the one in Arabia. As far as I can see, Islam's origin stories are fabrications and there are some within Islam who know this. That is why Petra was protected from western eyes, and why historical sites (like Mecca) are being destroyed by Muslims themselves. Not all Muslims, obviously, but a small and powerful group who know the actual history of this religion. A history, if revealed, would lose it Islam adherents by the tens of millions! I suggest you watch Dan Gibson's "The Sacred City". It can be found on KZread here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5Z1zaexk6zanNI.html This documentary should remove the veil from your eyes. The early history of Islam has too many holes to be even remotely believable and the Muslims have been doing their best to hide this fact for hundreds of years. It would be worth your while to find all the Dr. Jay Smith videos on KZread and refer to them. The ones produced in the last two years are exceptionally useful. You will learn a lot if you do this. You don't have to accept all that he says but the information he presents should raise questions in your mind. If Islam is a true religion it will survive those questions. Christianity has been under such scrutiny for at least three hundred years. It has survived the questions leveled against it. I don't think that Islam can survive such a scrutiny. Good Luck!

The author of John being a disciple of Jesus is nothing more than church propaganda & mythology. If the author of the gospel of John was an apostle of Jesus, he would have been at least 80 years old when he wrote it. If somebody had an important story to tell, why wait till well past the average lifespan of humans back then to write it? Would the eyesight of an 80+ year old be good enough to write the gospel, given the fact that no reading glasses existed back then? 3. The 4 gospels (starting with the gospel of Mark), also have all the characteristics of mythology growing & being embellished over time (exactly the same complaint you have for the story of Mohammad)! If God (Jesus) had an important message he wanted to give to all of mankind, which is a matter of life & death, why didn't he write the bloody bible himself? Or was he illiterate (like Mohammad was supposed to be)? Surely god writing it himself would be able to give a far clearer & better message than what we have now, with thousands of different Christian denominations with differing theological points of view. Strange that God appears incapable of writing anything himself!

It's clear from tradition that Muhamad gave his Daughter to Ali and married the daughters of Abu Bakr and Omar. Which is an obvious alliance marriage. It's my belief though that Ali was the other Arab leader. I think Though Mohamed was a Ghassanid from Petra as Dan Gibson suggested, while Ali was the Lakhmenid leader. This is why the Fitna happened it was a power struggle between those two kingdoms. To the extent that Shiaa till today have the prayer call mention Ali not Muhammed? The question I am trying to answer now is whether or not Muhamed and Khalid Ebn Elwalid were the same person! And the tradition split the prophetic from the historical in two different characters.
