What I consider to be one of the best investments a hunter can make in his gear- a super effective, light weight skinning knife. The Havalon Piranta is the best.

multi-tool should always be with you. especially if you are out in the wilderness. I have used my wave or my diesel more time then i care to think about out in the wilderness. Never leave home without it. I will be picking one of these up very soon. thanks for the review.

I've had mine for a few years now, you're right, no need for the other knifes when it comes to skinning/cleaning animals.

I currently have an older Schrade fixed blade but just ordered a Piranta and have a few questions for you. 1) Do you use it for boning larger game or still carry a more sturdy fixed blade with you? 2) Would you advise someone to use this for skinning/caping after shooting their first ever elk or can it be "too sharp"? 3) Are you in Utah?

I first saw this on cabelas website, then i noticed steve rinella (from the "wild within" and "meateater" hunting shows) use it almost exclusively. It's a good knife for cleaning out game, but you definitely need to carry a 2nd knife with a stiffer blade for general use.

1) I use it for almost everything, but I still carry another sturdier blade for tougher tasks that require some prying 2) Would I advise someone to use this for a first elk? Absolutely. It will save you a world of heartache. An elk dulls a blade very quickly. 3) Yes

Doesn't the need for having a multi-tool off set the light weight nature and argument that you don't need to carry a sharpening device?

Any issues with blade durability?
