    John, Honestly a good straight forward video review on these air rifles. I like the fact that you review springers/break barrel, gas piston, sidelever type guns. This is what I learned to shoot way back in 1979. I do own pcp rifle but still prefer the mechanicial type. Your shooting vids pique my interest and keep me informed on the preformance of new guns. Scott

    A very well-done review. Some folks may not realize how much work goes into the making of these kinds of vids......the filming, the chronography , the target shots, the editing, etc these types of vids are priceless to those (like me) who are looking to purchase a particular rifle (or not!) and yet the folks that create these channels are not "paid" , other than their dividends from the ads, which are minimal at best..... So , you might say, "Can I trust these guys?" Well, suffice to say, if these guys didn't genuinely CARE about the topic, the vid would not be here. They are NOT paid to pimp for a particular brand/model/etc... THOSE vids/ads are clearly visible and understandable for what they are, just basically an advertising video. Period. So, it's up to you. Where are you going to get better info?

    I have the Hatsan Spring Mod 125 in .177. It shoots 7.9-grain pellets over 1250 fps. I'm using the H & N Silver Point 11.57-gr and the Premier Piranha 10.5-gr pellets. This rifle is backyard friendly unless you have a wooden fence. I actually purchased this rifle the day after I saw this video review. I'm 71-years old and weigh 160 lbs. I have no problem cocking it. So far, I have shot around 1,000 pellets through it. I agree with every one of your comments on this rifle. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    I have the 125 Sniper Vortex in 25 caliber but had to send it back to Hatsan because the pellets were clipping the moderator baffles and accuracy suffered. Great service from them while they had it they repaired a bad piston seal. It is shooting good now and i can actually hit something. I also have the bipod mount like yours.Like most Hatsans these are heavy rifles. I didn't use the included scope either , it is junk.

    Sounds like a great deal!! I actually am leaning towards spring pistons more and more. My Hatsan 125 Sniper has less than 100 rounds through it. It has been sitting for a year and the air leaked out of the gas ram. Filled it and in 12 hours it was empty again. You don't have that issue with a spring piston. Merry Christmas 🎅🎄

    I had the hatsan 135 .30 cal. Shot well and really hit hard down range, (if you get good with 8 mill dots, it shoots consistently). But I did not like the quality of some of it, and I found their customer service to be about as bad as the IRS. I gave the gun away. I really like my Gamo mag .22 Gen2 swarm. The 10 shot clip will spoil you, and the barrel locks up perfectly. It is only 6.8lbs with no scope, has a great trigger, makes 27fpe at least. It has impressed me to 100 yards, and with a bit more practice, I think it is a 100 yard gun for a 3" target, (JSB 18.13gr. I use most). 5 year warranty,------and you can get Gamo on the phone.

    Thanks for the nice review. Goes to show that break barrel rifle is limited by energy input performing the break barrel action rather than size of the projectile. 0.177 might be best for break barrel as it has flattest trajectory and cheapest cost per shot. Pcp is much better for bigger projectile air guns.

    Unless you are spending some good money on a PCP you're not going to get much more velocity. My Umarex gauntlet .22 shoots slower than my hatsan .22 same with my .25. My air arms PCPs are a different story as they are beasts. The Hatsan .22 is a great small game to a small-medium game rifle. I drop jackrabbits turkey and have dropped 3 Coyotes with it when they're taking a poop.

    Just curious if you noticed on Hatsan .25cals, that the bore size tends to run a little large? I have 5 Hatsan breakers in .25 and most of the pellets I have tried fit in the barrel to easily. The Hatsan Vortex and HN 19.91gr (which I think are the same pellet with just a different name) are the only pellets that fit relatively firm in the breech. And those 2 brands group the best. I do not have a 125, I have 2 Edges, 2 87qe's and a 95. I have heard from a few others about the .25cals being slightly bored large. Just curious if you have noticed that also?

The camo vortex has about 26 FPMuzzle energy and the thumbhole stock springer model 125has over 33 foot pounds of muzzle energy... both very accurate .

    Thank you for the detailed review. I appreciate you telling about the guns and pellet choices. I have a nit picky question that maybe is of more importance to hunters than target shooters. I need to get rid of vandalizing varmints, squirrels and raccoons. My question is about the difference between the pellets you picked for FPS and the ones you picked for target accuracy. They were different weights in your video. I'd like to know the FPS of the accurate pellets. My reason for my question is as follows. I have a Hatsan MOD 25 pistol and just came in from doing chrono test with 2 pellet weights. The .177 cal 8 gr pellet and the 9.3 gr pellets differed by 100 FPS. That's not a ton of difference in EFP at .177 cal. And both are strong enough for squirrels. My reason for asking is I'm looking to get an additional rifle to get the raccoons and I need accuracy for hunting. My biggest game is raccoons and I'll need around 20 EFP to take those down. Sooooooooo, will the weight of the pellet you used for accuracy still give me the speed needed to giver me the EFP of around 20 EFP? Even so I'm aware than the gun I get might be more accurate with a different weight than the one you picked for accuracy. I'm not trying to put you on the spot I'm just looking for a reasonable expectation for my game of interest. Oh I have a rim fire .22 and a shotgun, but I also have neighbors. lol Oh I can bait and blind hunt the squirrels at a chosen distance where I get the necessary accuracy. I hope I'm not asking for too much. Thank you.

    The kind of pellet is very important. The difference between another one can be like 40-50% kinetic energy. I couldn't believe it's possible before i chronographed my airgun. Pellets that loosely fit into your barrel have much lower kinetic energy. I tested all kind of pellets from JSB EXACT 5,5 TESTER. This rule applies to all of them.

    Hi Randy, there is so many good choices out there and many sales. If I personally had only one choice for a breakbarrel I would have to pick the Sig Sauer ASP20. It is the complete package right out of the box. That rifle is a few dollars more, but it is easy to cock, not pellet picky and has a fantastic trigger. It is well worth the extra money. However, at a lower price point is the Gamo and Hatan models which are both good rifles and you can find them frequently on sale. I believe you will have room in any collection for more than one. .So purchase one and put the others on your wish list for the future. 22 cal is a great all around because you have a huge choice in pellets and you get really good FPE. Any of those models are good but all so different. Let me know what you decide.👍😊

    I have the Hatsan 135 QE Vortex in .25 cal. I'm trying to get the best balance between FPS and FPE. Right now i'm using the H&N Hornet (23.16 grains) giving me about 29 FPE and 751 FPS. What i'd like to know is would i benefit by going with a 20.06 grain H&N Field target trophy? My concern is, will that pellet be too light for long range hunting. Any speed under 700 FPS is out of the question for me. I had a bad experince with a duck at 690 FPS last year. Speed is important to me. I need to get that pellet to my target before it pulls a Matrix trick on me. Now speed means nothing without FPE, so i'm hoping you can give me some insight on this matter. Where would my balance lay between FPS and FPE in .25 cal? Great videos. I like the detail you go into. FPS, FPE, and the different distances, you cover all the bases when someone need to make a decision on a air rifle purchase. Great job!!

  • @AirgunDetectives

    @AirgunDetectives

    Hi Edward, think about how much FPE you need to humanely take down your game. I would think anywhere between 16-20 FPE would be good for a duck. So find the pellet that will give you the most FPS and provide you with that range of FPE at your optimum shooting distance. You then need to make sure that pellet provides the accuracy as well. I would try the 20. gr H&N and see what type of accuracy you get. Remember the lighter pellets do slow down faster at the greater distances. If you have a chrono change the distances and check your FPS/FPE

    They are great shooters and easy to cock. I have a .22 caliber and it is not too pellet picky. It actually shoots pretty well with the Crosman 14.3 gr Hollow points. Let me know how you like the 95. The problem with the 125 in .177 is you have to use a heavy pellet, minimum of 10 gr. Anything lighter moves around too much and breaks the sound barrier. I personally would lean toward the .22 of .25. However, I think you are really going to like that 95.

    I went against my intuition on getting a mod 125 off Amazon and of course it was shipped by Amazon and sold by Amazon which we all know is so suspect but of course it came in the box like it was new however I'm just not convinced but what is brand-new is me and I just have to humble myself right now because I've never owned a break barrel I just had a little Crosman multi-pump when I was a kid I literally know nothing about these and the first thing I found out from these videos is mine has a kind of deep pitch squeak when I break it and the braking energy required is insane. Not only that just returning the barrel seems stiff so of course I can probably a oil some things up but that actually brings me to my biggest question here aside from the dumbest that I'm going to save for the last but my big question is I just cleaned the barrel with a standard little microfiber dowel from a Ruger kit because I dry fired it and either got some dieseling effect or something but it sure did smoke and it smells almost like sulfur to tell you the truth. It smells like a mixture of metal and sulfur. Anyway I cleaned it out and now I'm scared to fire it because I don't know if it's too dry or if what I experienced was from too much Factory oil. If you think it just came with too much oil on it then that's fine but I don't have any silicone oil with me yet so I'm really tempted to try and fire one pellet since I broke the barrel anyway and don't really want to keep this thing like this it's not the vortex. Its a spring qe... okay here's for the stupid question and I will start opening up other cans of pellets if I have to but I just tried to set a predator GTO 16.54 grain tell it in the barrel and before doing so I wanted to see how the skirt fit into the barrel and it doesn't go into the barrel at all so I'm just wondering how these things fire these.. someone explain to me how the pallet fits in there with surface tension but when ready to fire is perfectly free? Damn I feel really dumb right now
