Just ordered one and used a free shipping code I found in an air gun forum. I'm very excited as I prefer a simpler but powerful spring break barrel and I love my older Gamo Whisper .22. I also have a Hatsan 125 Sniper .25 coming. Again, a simple, powerful spring break barrel. And I LOVE this color. Thanks for the great videos!

I very recently bought this rifle and i love it. I just plink and it is plenty accurate for that use. In regards to the iron sights you can use them. What i did was take off the cheek piece. You do that by unscrewing the shoulder pad and it slides right off. And without the cheek piece its the perfect height for the iron sights. Great video.

Just received this gun from gamousa, it's great! Great review!! I went with this gun due to it's simplicity and power. No extra plastic mechanisms or BS to break in the field and spring piston simplicity. More reliability and power when in the woods is what I was looking for. I mostly plink for fun while hiking but this would be great for hunting or food gathering as well. Love the gun so far and I'm looking forward to installing the trigger screw I picked up from your website. The trigger is solid from the factory but dialing her back a lb or so should be amazing. You were dead on with the zero twang thing, doesn't twang at all like my other springers do. Shoots crisp and sharp and has enormous power!! Thanks for your efforts!!

@@Karim-wb7iq I have plenty of rounds through it, probably nearing 1000 at this point. I have had zero issues with it. It still runs like it did when new. It's definitely a keeper and I would absolutely buy it again. Dialing back the trigger made it much nicer, nice short crisp break. It's so powerful that I don't like to shoot it anywhere I'm not comfortable shooting an actual 22LR. Definitely not a toy, it's a very serious gun.

After watching your review, and Gamo having a sale. That was the motivation I needed. The Magnum GR in .22 is a great rifle. Out of all my springers. It has the most violent recoil and power. With the longer trigger screw it's down to a 1 pound pull. Very happy with my purchase. Thanks JC, great video.

Happy New Year John, That was an exemplary review of a very practical and affordable rifle. I did notice the lack of spring twang. In addition, I was very impressed with the low standard deviation of velocity of the pellet. Now, with that said, you obviously have a much better climate where you are located. Where I'm located, it is seldom above freezing. I use my break barrels hunting small game during this time of year, and the reason I prefer the gas piston over the spring, is related to having the rifle cocked and loaded for extended periods of time. I get much more consistent performance from the gas piston then a spring piston. And I guarantee that in the field the spring will twang and the pellet velocity will drop, especially when the rifle and spring temperatures have dropped to match the ambient air temperatures. Overall, I have to say that I do like the rifle and it is a very practical late spring, summer, and early fall choice. Still better then a co2, summer or indoor range rifle. Once again, I have to admit that your channel is one of the best. Your tips, mods, and adjustments are an awesome plus. Your consistent presentation and approach to each review is one of the reasons I'm hooked. It's kinda weird, in a way, but I find your reviews honest a trustworthy. Thanks for sharing, stay healthy, and God Bless, Greg

Thanx for a great review! I have read about many people having the same problem as you had with a gasram airgun that lost the power, and i think 90% of them used them very litle, and thats the problem, they get stored away for a long time without any use and the litle oil in the gasram sink and they dry out inside and start to leak, so if you only going to use your airgun once a year for hunting then get a springer, if you going to use it every week or several times a month, then you can get a gasram, and i have read that you should not store your gasrams on the buttstock only, you should vary that and store them verticaly, upside down, horizontaly and so on to keep the lubricant inside float around. I have many airguns (close to 40 now) and i have a "safetybox" @ home that i can shoot into to keep them "lubricated" even if it´s bad weather outside for a long time

Good afternoon everyone... I hope all of you are having a good day. I am 57 years old and I have been using spring piston air rifles all of my life and that's where my aim and my proficiency is and how it has developed over the years. I can't get used to a gas piston or a PCP because they are different and because my stance and aim is used to a spring piston air rifle. This Gamo Magnum GR is perfect for what I'm looking for... it has the power for hunting and it will be a great awesome tool for hunting and reliability ! Definitely going to use the H & N Hornet pellets, .22, 16 grain for hunting.

Good video Mr Detective. Bought the gun for $130 on Black Friday special from Gamo USA The scope it comes with is ok for 20 to 30 yard shots at 2x2 inch targets - but it will not give .38 groups especially with the OEM trigger. My gun out of the box pushed the 14.3 at about 920 FPS which is not bad at all. There is one important detail about the Jingle that was not mentioned in the video : you have to grip the rifle really firmly to get accuracy from it - don’t try the artillery hold , this gun is a beast. Regarding the open sights the position of one’s cheek to align the sights is a sure way to injure a molar , the gun kicks like a mule - the only way to go is with a scope! Another detail about the Jungle is that the breech block that hold the barrel is made of plastic/ polymer- that doesn’t mean it’s bad - I find that mine is very strong and rugged and has no vibration or movement whatsoever. This gun is definitely not for plinking, it’s for hunting, but keep a firm grip on the gun special the pistol grip. The stock is solid polymer except for a section of the butt that is hollow- I filled that small hollow cavity with compressed oiled rags and the vibration of that section was totally eliminated. The barrel on this gun is excellent , no droopy whatsoever. Gamo makes excellent barrels. The cocking effort at 41 pound I believe is too conservative, you can see how this is put into doubt whit the huff and puff of the first five shots by Mr. Detective- by the way it’s obvious that Mr Detective is a heavy weight lifter. The 4 and 3/4 star rating is very well deserved and honest. My honest opinion is that it’s a good gun specially for a Mag at that price . I’m a die hard springer fan , they are more practical , reliable and cheaper to fix.

Wanna bet on the grip? 1st, you need a better pellet, like the 18.13gr. JSB for great long shots. Then you get the scope working,---and hold the gun, touch the gun as little as possible, (where the finer trigger mod is handy). Let me tell you why. You may know that the gun is moving before the pellet leaves the barrel, and any force into the stock will effect how the gun moves. If you repeat the forces exactly, the muzzle will always be in the same place when the pellet leaves it, and it will be accurate. Now any grip, if consistent, will work. But it is just easier to repeat "zero force" into the stock, than it is to repeat any grip, cheek, shoulder force that you would normally put into a stock. Try this----at 70 yards. Just let the gun rest in your hands, The only grip you have to have is the force needed to squeeze the trigger. (I use my middle finger on the trigger, and my index finger up on the stock for some stock stability). Now with the gun lightly in your hands, and your hairs on the target, push the butt stock away from your shoulder and cheek to just barely touch, (that is the end of a lever, the butt stock). If you can squeeze the trigger with out moving the gun with such a light hold, your muzzle will be in the same place every time, and you will be able to do head shots on small game with this gun at 80 yards. let the gun shake it's groove thing, and the muzzle will be in the same spot every time. Give it a few hundred shots to get used to it. I bet you shoot much better, (if everything else on the gun is working right).

I just got an email video from Pyramid Air featuring Tyler Patner discussing the pros and cons of slugs vs. pellets. When you do your next comparison of magnum hunting rifles, can you please include some slugs? When you store a gas spring(rifle) you should store it with the thick end up, then the seal will be lubricated and stay flexible for a longer time, if you store it the other way around, the oil will drain away from the seal, and that will reduce it's lifespan.

I always read the comments to see what other info I can pick up from other viewers. I watched Dr. Russ this passed week. He asked a repairman what was the number one issue why people send in their guns. Answer was people store their guns butt down and that allows the lead fibers off the pellets to get down to the piston and mess it up. That's why washing pellets makes sense. I did that for the first time this week and I was surprised how many fibers I found

It hadn't been used in over a year and the same thing happened. I have two questions: - Is it safe to say these gas piston springers will last a long time so long as they are regularly used? (Like once a month??) -And could you perhaps maybe do a video on Gas to Spring conversion on the Hatsan? (I know they sell these springs on e-bay) I'd love to see how your whole customer experience goes with Hatsan since I've heard they do take care of their customers. JC, Great video as always. I didn't know that it's possible to replace springs! Is it possible to get heavier springs too? Where would you get a heavier spring? Gamo? Years ago Gamo used to produce a Hunter Extreme SE and a Tactical version also that supposedly could propel the pellets to 1650 fps and needed 60 lbs. of cocking effort. I never bought that because it was only in .177 and supposedly it was not very accurate. I would imagine that a .22 pellet or slug would be more accurate because the heavier weight would probably stabilize the flight a little more despite a lower velocity. Conversely, would you be able to swap out a 60lbs spring for a 40 lbs. spring or even swap out the spring piston for a gas piston? Would it be possible to swap out a gas piston for a heavier gas piston? Does changing a spring piston to a gas piston eliminate the problem of scope destruction by eliminating the double recoil? Thanks for the great video. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

@@Victor_Victory Only con would be what was mentioned in the video - it's almost impossible to use the open sights due to the high cheek piece. That's really the only con. Well, it's also loud in .177 if you don't use heavy pellets because light ones are supersonic. But I expected that. Pros for me are looks, power, and smooth firing. I have no other spring piston rifles that are this smooth. No spring twang at all. Accuracy is very good too, even with light lead free pellets that start off at 1400 fps.

Agree. I like metal springs better overall also. Got about 10 of both gas springs and metal springs in several brands. I have had three, yes THREE Hatsan Vortex leak down to empty on me. I know a guy that takes them, reseals them and improves them with upgraded hardware. I will never buy another Hatsan with a Vortex piston. Only reason I have so many Vortex Hatsans is that my wife bought me a .25 cal 155 Vortex about 6 years ago for my birthday, I got a .25 cal 125 Sniper Vortex on sale at Field Supply for $139.00 shipped !! And, I have two .30 cal 135s which only come in Vortex. Hit me up if you want this guys contact info. He returned my 155 shooting 34 FPE. A little more than I want, so the next ones I send him I will insist they not be over 31 FPE. He swears they will not leak. So far, my 155 hasn't, but it has only been one year.

I have replaced every Vortex Gas Ram with the exception of the 135 .30 cal. The Vortex rams last12 months to just under 5 years max. They are around $40 to replace them through Hatsan. Hatsan has removed the bleeder valve claiming that was the weakness in their gas pistons. Not sure on the longevity of the replacement models. I have replaced 9 thus far. I end up doing a full-tune on these at the same time. I noticed metal shavings in every piston seal. Evidently Hatsan does not thoroughly clean their chambers prior to installing the seals. When I am done with these they are great shooters. I also polish the trigger assembly and lighten the spring. What does he charge for the rebuild of the gas ram?

On a lot of these rifles it's just the luck of the drawl. It has to do with the overall assembly. How smooth the air chamber is, how well was the piston seal installed, was there a little nick in seal caused in the assembly process? Was the proper amount of lubricant used in the seating of the seal. One Spring or Gas piston may be slightly stronger than others. I have seen identical models fluctuate as much as 60 fps. They can have the extra fps, just give me accuracy 😉👍

Always a pleasure JC ! I have a health question. I have an indoor range. I was wondering how would the air be affected by all the co2 released by my guns everyday? Is it enough to poison myself? Does it dissipate? I googled it and found nothing. I certainly would appreciate anyone's input on this. To the springers meanwhile =:)

  • @EarthSurferUSA

    @EarthSurferUSA

    3 жыл бұрын

Springer guns, (either a gas charged cylinder or a metal coil spring), do not use co2 cartridges for the power supply. The piston draw in ambient air when you cock it, and forces that air into the pellet skirt when you fire it. There are no emissions, and all you need is the gun and pellets to shoot as much as you want. co2 is not poison either. It is what you breath out, and what plants breath in.

You need to experiment and try several different weights and styles. Each rifle is a bit different. The H&N FTT 14.66 work well, The various JSB's like the 18.13 gr. Also, try some of the less expensive pellets as well. Give the Crosman Premiers a try as well as some others. You will want to use the hornets just for hunting or pest control because they are more expensive. Try to find a less expensive pellet for plinking and basic target shooting 👍😉
