'Has no idea what he's doing': Bolt calls out Bowen's backflip on offshore wind farms

Sky News host Andrew Bolt has called out Chris Bowen over the Energy Minister's backflip on offshore wind farms, after he had to slash the size of his planned offshore wind farm zone off western Victoria by 80 per cent.
Mr Bolt said last year the Climate Change and Energy Minister "laughed off claims" that the massive offshore wind farms he wants built all along our coast might actually harm whales.
“Nonsense, he scoffed - well, fast forward to this morning when Bowen slipped out a press statement announcing his latest whoopsie," he said.
“Good heavens, he's just had to slash the size of his planned offshore wind farm zone off western Victoria by 80 per cent. You see, it turns out the whales are a real worry, after all."
Mr Bolt said the backflip today proves Mr Bowen is a "smart alec and landscape-wrecker with no idea what he's doing from one day to the next".

Chris Bowen wakes up to a perfect world, "Save the Planet, ban all petroleum products" Poor Chris Bowen. Life without petroleum and petroleum-based products. One crisp winter morning in Australia a cute little girl named Chris Bowen woke up to a perfect world, one where there were no petroleum products ruining the earth. She tossed aside her cotton sheet and wool blanket and stepped out onto a dirt floor covered with willow bark that had been pulverized with rocks. “What’s this?” she asked. “Pulverized willow bark,” replied her fairy godmother. “What happened to the carpet?” she asked. “The carpet was nylon, which is made from butadiene and hydrogen cyanide, both made from petroleum,” came the response. Chris Bowen smiled, acknowledging that adjustments are necessary to save the planet, and moved to the sink to brush her teeth where instead of a toothbrush, she found a willow, mangled on one end to expose wood fibre bristles. “Your old toothbrush?” noted her godmother, “Also nylon.” “Where’s the water?” asked Chris Bowen “Down the road in the canal,” replied her godmother, Just make sure you avoid water with cholera in it.” “Why’s there no running water?” Chris Bowen asked, becoming a little peevish. “Well,” said her godmother, who happened to teach engineering at MIT, “Where do we begin?” There followed a long monologue about how sink valves need elastomer seats and how copper pipes contain copper, which has to be mined and how it’s impossible to make all-electric earth-moving equipment with no gear lubrication or tires and how ore has to be smelted to a make metal, and that’s tough to do with only electricity as a source of heat, and even if you use only electricity, the wires need insulation, which is petroleum-based, and though most of Australias energy is produced in an environmentally friendly way because of hydro and nuclear, if you do a mass and energy balance around the whole system, you still need lots of petroleum products like lubricants and nylon and rubber for tires and asphalt for filling potholes and wax and iPhone plastic and elastic to hold your underwear up while operating a copper smelting furnace and . . . “What’s for breakfast?” interjected Chris Bowen, whose head was hurting. "Fresh, range-fed chicken eggs,” replied her godmother. “Raw.” “How so, raw?” inquired Chris Bowen. “Well, . . .” And once again, Chris Bowen was told about the need for petroleum products like transformer oil and scores of petroleum products essential for producing metals for frying pans and in the end was educated about how you can’t have a petroleum-free world and then cook eggs. Unless you rip your front fence up and start a fire and carefully cook your egg in an orange peel like you do in Boy Scouts. Not that you can find oranges in Australia anymore. “But I want poached eggs like my Aunt Tilda makes,” lamented Chris Bowen. “Tilda died this morning,” the godmother explained. “Bacterial pneumonia.” “What?!” interjected Chris Bowen “No one dies of bacterial pneumonia! We have penicillin.” “Not anymore,” explained godmother “The production of penicillin requires chemical extraction using isobutyl acetate, which, if you know your organic chemistry, is petroleum-based. Lots of people are dying, which is problematic because there’s not any easy way of disposing of the bodies since backhoes need hydraulic oil and crematoriums can’t really burn many bodies using as fuel Australian fences and furniture, which are rapidly disappearing - being used on the black market for roasting eggs and staying warm.” This represents only a fraction of Chris Bowns day, a day without microphones to exclaim into and a day without much food, and a day without carbon-fibre boats to sail in, but a day that will save the planet. Tune in tomorrow when Chris Bowen needs a root canal and learns how Novocain is synthesized.

Australia can’t afford a disaster like renewables , there is no need for it anyway the best and cheapest way to generate electricity is coal or natural gas , a power station can be built close to a city or industrial area and save a lot on long distant transmission lines. And Australians should not worry about CO2 with less than one percent of the worlds population it doesn’t matter if we make a small amount of greenhouse gas, compared with China for example .

As well this is no laughing matter , Aussies must get serious and take action against these globalist controlled puppets like Bowen who want to weaken the country .@@jackfrost2146

Too sensible I suppose. As for whales avoiding ships, when I went from South Africa to England with Union Castle in 1970 we hit and killed a whale and on my trip from South Africa to Australia in 1994 we also hit another whale which was damaged but not killed. Why don't they just do what all the clever countries are doing and start building a nuclear plant. Compare the cost of electricity in Australia with any of those nuclear countries.

It was going to be nearly 15GW which is 3x large coal fired power plants, but now only 2.9GW, which is slightly more than half a coal fired power station. Of course this is all about the whales and not about being protective of coal at all.

Brainwashed population getting their panties twisted for nothing. The Australian media is run as a business and pr machine for corporates with heavy coal interests. Basically a sad excuse for a media, sadly the media has been successful in its brainwashing which can be seen in the non factual comments negative to renewables. It is tragically obvious for outsiders to see the hypocrisy in any concerns for animals, nature or environment. Thanks to their silence when it comes to basically anything else their concern is oddly enough no where to be found. Wind energy is more valuable for millions than a few knob heads getting riled up that they can see a sliver of them on the horizon. I boils down to feelings and its obvious how thin skinned the populous is with their nimbyism.

Interestingly my brother works on the water both here and Europe and has noticed in the last decade issues with actual aggression from marine mammals increasing. Best he can figure is the exponential increase in locating equipment on ships but also on private vessels of all sizes. Throw in the mass beachings of whales etc on various coasts globally and you need to start to wonder what’s going on. Stands to reason they rely on sonar to navigate and are extraordinarily sensitive to small changes and suddenly we start blasting signals everywhere. It would be like living in the middle of a 24/7 construction site in the dark with no respite. You’d be cranky, in pain and disorientated.

And yet whale deaths have increased and still are increasing in the USA North East where they are building more and more off shore wind farms. What a curious coincidence.

I like the idea of renewables but you have to include the maintanence cost as well as cost what it take to make them function like a base load power source ( ie large scale battery ) before comparing them with things like coal gas and nuclear which are baseload. Proponents of solar and wind often choose to ignore these costs.

So what happens to all those renewables when bad weather and fire hits with on land also. How will labor plan to keep the power on when hail hits cracking and breaking all the solar panels he putting up everywhere. And high winds brake windmills turbines on mass scale. How will the power come back on in a few hours? Whats the back up plan when coal-fired power plants all get shut down. Thats my question. Placing windmills in the sea hurting animals and making it issue for shipping is another problem. Not only destroying a beach
