Today’s guest, Dave Karger, is a highly respected and revered authority in the world of entertainment journalism and film history. He’s an award-winning host and interviewer on Turner Classic Movies.
He’s also made hundreds of appearances on The Today show, where he’s been the Oscars expert for the past 24 years. He also spent 17 years as a senior writer and Awards Correspondent at Entertainment Weekly, and he’s also co-hosted ABC's “Live from the Red Carpet” on Oscar night, and he is one of very few people who have had the honor of serving as the Academy’s official red-carpet greeter.
In 2015, he received the Publicists Guild Press Award for outstanding entertainment journalism. And today he’s here to discuss his wonderful new book entitled, “50 Oscar Nights: Iconic Stars and Filmmakers on Their Career-Defining Wins”, in which dozens of Oscar winners - everyone from Rita Moreno, Steven Spielberg, Elton John, Martin Scorcese, Meryl Streep, Clint Eastwood, and many more - actually tell us, in their own words, how they felt about being nominated, how they prepared for the Awards show, how they reacted when they heard their names announced and got up on stage to accept their awards, and how the entire experience impacted their lives and careers.
Our guest’s deep-rooted passion for the art of storytelling and cinema has made him a trailblazer, not only for his innovative work in chronicling the evolution of Hollywood, but because he is actively shaping its narrative and transforming its landscape. He is renowned for his advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the film industry, and he regularly uses his platform to amplify underrepresented voices and challenge industry norms.
And I’m very proud to say that, in 2014, he was named one of OUT Magazine's "100 Most Influential People" in the LGBTQ community.

Great interview- I just got the "50 Oscar Nights" book last weekend, then had Dave sign it at the TCM Festival. I noticed he was very attentive and kind to everyone who was getting his signature. I told him I was enjoying the book that day, as I went to lunch and waited in line for movies- it's a very enjoyable read.

As always you disarm the guest and get them to share info they normally don't. IT is so amazing how you can stop guests from providing their "Canned" responses for every other interview they do.

Fred and the other TCM hosts have done well in the wake of losing the incomparable Robert Osborne. They've kept the intimate feeling and warmth that the audience feels of being in our home since so many of the films are like old friends as well! The book sounds fascinating.
