Haru is literally in a room with her father’s murderer and isn’t swinging that axe at him. She’s so polite. Not that she could take him on in a one on one battle, but the fact that she shows constraint really fits her character

This is proof that Haru and Futaba are good people, putting the highest good above their feelings. Yosuke would never be willing to work with Adachi.

Well, there’s no real reason to work with Adachi. At least the pancake knows what he did was wrong and sort of tries to redeem himself (basically sacrificing himself for Joker twice)

That's why I like Yosuke better as a character as whole, he wouldn't take that and I don't blame him. In fact on P4 half the team was going to commit murder...if you let them.

I do wonder what Akechi really feels about it. I think he totally understands, to be honest. And I do think that he, deep down, would feel very guilty considering he did lose his own mother. Of course we'll never hear that from him since he did get his pride from Shido but I think it's very possible.

I just dont like when some fans just decided to defend him or like him just cause he wasnt 100% evil. Its the same with Adachi. Both Akechi and Adachi is great character in my opinion but i dont like when some fans just defend them and try to put them in a better light, trying to justify their actions

It would be easy as hell if it meant I could avoid maruki's reality.

I love how Haru and Futaba are both grounded with how they are currently on a job, a mission and they just want to focus on that. They both can control their own emotions and be relatively calm around Akechi. The main difference is that Futaba doesn't even want to think about him and just wants to focus on navigating and Haru is very very much aware of his presence but knows that he can help them in this situation as they all have the same goals. And damn, even Ryuji has no comment and defers to Haru and Futaba over his presence.

So there was this thing I just realized and I feel really stupid having not known. I've never really liked how fucking massive Futaba's mask was, until I realized that she still wears her glasses beneath them

Despite what he says, I think the fact that he's constantly asking if everyone is really okay with his assistance and is willing to, "see the mission through" is his way of apologizing.

I mean Akechi was warped by Shido into doing most of that crap, and I definitely wouldn't call him a psychopath (considering he had to literally force himself to go psychotic with his persona), but yeah. It's gotta be rough sitting next to the guy who took your loved ones away from you. :( At least he tried his best to make amends and turn himself in for it though, even if it ultimately failed.

There actually is a very small scene in Maruki's palace that very softly implies Akechi feeling remorse about Wakaba, in one of the billboards that talk about cognative research when you click and make the characters read it Akechi falls silent and his disconfort is notisable enough for Sumire to ask him what's going on, he keeps silence for a second and then says to move on in tha palace

It's alittle annoying that people get genuinely upset that Haru doesn't try murdering Akechi. That would be incredibly out of character for her.

@@juicyrosie34 Because of her gentle personality, she is often underestimated, even by her teammates, however she admits she feels excited when Shadows beg for their lives, that cutting down enemies as they approach is a thrill, and that she sees combat as a form of stress relief, hinting she is somewhat sadistic. Also, after a battle, Haru may say something along the lines of, "Phew, I need more of that!" and despite saying that she gets nervous before combat, she always wants to do it again afterwards. Her sadistic streak is enough to freak out Makoto, who's well-known among the group for her vicious temper and tendency to take her anger out on Shadows. This sadistic side is further shown by the fact that if the protagonist cheats on her in Valentine's Day, she will express her anger with an eerie smile on her face, requesting that he take her chocolate before she crushes it, showing a passive-aggressive personality.

Futaba shows this. Hell, ALL of the PTs express sadness for Akechi over and over because while they don't forgive his actions, they can't fully blame him for ending up where he did either. Anyway, in response to the OP: I would totally love to read that story! Seeing how Akech dealt with the aftermath of killing his first innocent (Wakaba) at the age of 15 would be a fascinating thing to watch unfold, and it could show us the beginnings of his tragic downward spiral as he continues to sacrifice his sanity for the sake of revenge against Shido. Like when someone first decides to go down a war path of sorts.

@@littenfire3563 that just isn’t true. his psychotic self comes up ever since he used his primal ability on himself, which i assume was born from his desire to cut off his self-doubt. post-fight with him he laments on everything, and while he adopts loki, as a healthy human he is robin hood and i assume it was his first persona this is speculation on my part

@@DLxxx And we don't even know if Wakaba is 100% innocent. Sure, she may be a loving mother to Futaba, but what about her work? There is a theory that says the retro videogame you can buy in P5R, Featherman Seeker, tells how Akechi was experimented on to "have more power", that is, awakening a second, more powerful Persona, Loki. It's supported by the similar kanjis and meanings between Osagiri (the scientist in the game) and Wakaba. And also that the protagonist is Grey Pigeon, which is Akechi's suit in the Featherman DLC.

And people say "The Phantom Thieves forgave Akechi" when this exists

No they don't. They realize that there is an bigger threat to take care of, bigger than the God of Control. Noir said that she doesn't forgive Akechi for her father's death. Futaba even stated that she doesn't see him as part of the team. The rest of the team are ok with him as long as Haru and Futaba are ok with the temporary alliance. They don't love him. Sorry for him sure.

Eh.. I mean they definitely understand and SYMPATHIZE with Akechi for sure (both outright admitted as much; Futuba even urging him to start over and make amends by standing with them against Shido), but they'll never truly be able to *like* him after how deeply he wounded them both. And both sides understand this is the case, which is why, rather than apologize with words, Akechi simply states that he hopes they can all manage to work together to the end. Because that's all any of them can do at this point.

I like how Noir and Oracle both admit that they hate working with Crow now knowing he’s responsible for orphaning them on Shido’s orders, but are willing to work with him for the greater good of stopping Maruki’s brainwashing of the masses and are using the Shadows and navigation as distractions from their hatred of him.

Haru must have some complex feelings as a mixture of anger toward akechi and guilt towards herself because in a way she helped akechi kill her father, yeah shido was probably gonna have him killed anyway but you can't deny the phantom thieves made is so much easier.

No. The Phantom Thieves had nothing to do with it. It was all set up by Shido's hackers who made Okumura rise to the Top Requests so then Okumura could be killed on live TV pinning the blame on the Phantom Thieves. It was all Shido's doing. The Phan-Site and the Phantom Thieves were just being used in the process

True but even after all that they were on the fence about going after okumura, it was after meeting haru and learning of her situation that they decided to go after him at her request, i'm not saying they wouldn't have decided not to go after him if they never met her because of shido's manipulation, but in the end even if it was by accident she had a roll in them definitely going after okumura and weakening him for akechi to get an easy kill.

The thieves didn't make the murder itself easier, but made them being used as a scapegoat for his death significantly easier

I’d be completely against Akechi joining if he killed my mother or father. Haru and Futaba are a lot stronger than me.

I feel like Haru and Futuba’s character get some flack because everyone expects them to hate Akechi and attempt to murder him. It’s justified, but here it’s shown that they have no intention of forgiving him and that they know a job needs to get done. I wouldn’t be surprised if the developers intended for some extra dialogue with those two after, saying the appreciate his sacrifice and say he’s finally answered for the murder of their parents.

I feel real bad for Futaba and Haru. They truly hate that he's back, but they're willing to let him on, going with the team's belief that they need his help. It's even worse because, I feel Akechi's not the most useful of a party member. His most usable skill I feel was Debilitate, and while Laevateinn is strong, it's countered by the sheer number of enemies with either High Counter or resistance to Physical. Also his Third Persona is only unlocked on the last day/final battle... where he becomes a liability due to his weakness to Bless. So they reluctantly let him back on, only because he may be of use... and then proceeds not to be.

Haru : You killed my father Futaba : You killed my mother... despite that meaning that you would have been like 8 at the time of the murder Pancake : Sorry it won't happen again

futaba's mother died 2.5 years ago, akechi is likely jokers age or older and joker is a 2nd year in high school in japan (16 or 17?) so akechi was likely 14 or 15.

Still feels off that futaba's called Oracle in english version when she's Navi in JP version. Don't know why localization team decided to change her name alone especially considering... . . [Spoiler] . . . . There's Project Oracle in P5 Scramble, So there will be 2 oracle terms being used (if the game ever gets localized that is)

The reason is the fact that the japanese script used the name for two thing : Futaba’s codename and the shorthand name for the navigator app in the menu. They wanted a way to distinguish the two in english. Navi was also a abbreviation to the other Navigator of the series Rise and Fuuka, their role was named Navi in pq, released before p5. In addition the name change serves as nice reference to Oracle from Batman, who is another orange-haited hacker who wears glasses and the ability of Fuuka Oracle in p3.

And trying to say they want to distinguish the navi and navigator abbv is abit weak when there are clearly 2 other characters who donned the Joker title(Tatsuya and Jun) and there was no issue with that. @@saadmirza4221 Yeah, but it still makes a weird kind of sense considering that when Akechi originally returned and gave himself up to the police on Christmas Eve, Haru was one of the first people to express happiness for him being able to live AND still having the opportunity to atone for his crimes (remember, she never thought he deserved to _die_ back on Shido's ship, and tried her best to tell him it wasn't too late to stand with them against his father, the same way she had done with hers). Similar situation with Futaba too. It's made even worse now that they've seen first hand that the first thing Akechi would do if given a second chance at life is atone for his crimes (by turning himself in), and now, he won't even be able to do that..

I always wondered what would be Haru or Futaba reaction on their wedding day with Ren and he makes Akechi his best man?

I'm still bitter that futaba doesn't get to call akechi a piece of shit for what he did to her and her mother during shido's palace.

Everybody gansta until the next Persona 5 spin-off/sequel Futaba's Persona transforms into a Combatative one, just like Rise's from P4 Arena Ultimax...

I would have loved some bitter comments from haru and oracle, like "dont worry Akechi, you already made enemies of enough rich and powerful people may bite you in the back when least expecting it" and "no worries, if you think your cellphone is the only think I can hack, then you are in for a fun surprise, every little detail about you may end up online somewhere"

I wanted to see what the whole team had to say at this moment.

Honestly I think the reason Futaba and Haru aren't really that mean to Akechi is because they realize it won't change anything. I think people tend to forget that despite being teenagers most the Phantom thieves are actually pretty smart and emotionally understand themselves well. Both Haru and Futaba both realize that being mean to Akechi won't bring their parents back and that nothing will change that. Obviously they don't forgive Akechi, but there is no use wasting so much time on being upset with someone when you can't fix it.

Yup, it only makes sense for Haru and Futaba to not feel comfortable with working with Akechi. They're only agreeing to have him on the team for the sake of defeating Maruki

Maybe with Ann about how much she misses Shiho

"Haru! Pass the Baton to Alechi"

I think it’s really interesting how despite all the trauma and problems that Akechi, whether directly or indirectly, caused her, she still considers him a Phantom Thief. Neat little detail.

I don't consider Akechi a villain. Ok, maybe I do, but he's a villain who needs help

I really like how Atlus acknowledge that Haru and Futaba are entitled to feel however they want about him and respect it. A worse game would have brushed over it and had them accept him as a part of the thieves.

You hear that, people who ship Goro and Haru? She hates him. I swear if two characters so much as breathe near one another then they get shipped

I know it's 3 years too late but everyone, keep in mind that royal is probably not canon (truth hurts) so take everything you see with a grain of salt but don't forget it's message.

I feel like Im missing something, so why exactly would Futaba in particular hate Akechi? Its not like Akechi killed Wakaba, Akechi and Futaba are only 2 years apart, and Futaba was pretty young when the whole thing happened Did I miss something in the story or

Akechi did kill Wakaba. He was the only one with the ability to do so, and Wakaba died around the same time Akechi awakened to his Persona, like 2 years before the events of P5.

Akechi killed Wakaba, she was probably one the first people he killed for Shido since (from what dialogue tells us) he was still a minor politician when supervising Wakaba's research. This all happened roughly two years before the start of the main game. Futaba was 13/14 and Akechi was 15/16. The game never gives us an explicit timeline for these things to happen, so everyone assumes the Wakaba situation happened earlier than it actually did.

Judging by the costumes I think someone just watched Harry Type-C’s latest video.

Did aketchi kill Wakaba? It’s actually crazy how much of a relationship joker has with aketchi despite this. You could argue one has a stronger connection with aketchi than he does with ryuji. The fact they have a showtime is indicative of this as well. I wish they could have explored this dynamic more, as a villain aketchi was kinda trash but the after math of that is insanely interesting.

Always remember that it's heavily implied that Okumura did use to genuinely care for Haru but just went around making overambitious investments that led him to be killed. That isn't Madarame or Shido.

Bro he was gonna sell Haru off to an abusive guy who'd end up raping her, and he kNOWS what Sugimura's like. He didn't just make some overambitous investments, he was actively okay with putting his own daughter in an abusive relationship for profit. And he was actively okay with making people work until they died. Yeah it's implied he used to care about Haru, but this isn't just a case of Okumura making some mistakes and getting in over his head. There was nothing forcing Okumura to do what he did apart from his own greed.

@@mrex666productions7 Just because something's legal doesn't make it right. Even if Sugimura was the nicest man on Earth, if Haru doesn't want the marriage then forcing it on her is disgusting. My point still stands though, Okumura was okay with forcing Haru into an abusive relationship. He's a despicable person who knew eXACTLY what he was doing and did it anyway because he wanted to.

@@mrex666productions7 someone clearly didn't pay enough attention to haru to not see that sugimura is a grade A asshole between trying to force her to his house, forcefully kicking a cat with no hesitation, okumura's cognitive version of him going "wOW HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS ARE HOT" so you KNOW okumura knows what he's doing with his daughter, the fact that Haru moreorless HAS to go to his house to have illicit relations with Sugimura to apologize for her behavior if you don't finish Okumura's palace on time, and a good majority of his actions in her confidant where he's trying to wrestle control of the company away from her. like. Come On dude, if it was just a problem of Sugimura being a stranger older than her, then she wouldn't have started rebelling in the first place. That being said though, just because Okumura used to genuinely care for Haru doesn't excuse the fact that he was basically selling off his daughter - he didn't care if she was in good hands, much less legally married because his shadow self admitted he was more than fine with her as Sugimura's mistress, as long as he could use her as a stepping stone for political gain.

And also that he used Akechi A LOT to get rid of all the competence. If you pay attention to the news in-game, you'll see lots and lots of incidents regarding fast food chains. He is a despicable person and not only I don't have any problem with Akechi nos apologizing at all, I'd even pat him on the shoulder and say "good job bro". Haru is just delusional to think she can have a loving father "again".

Everybody talking about haru and futaba, but i think that akechi is suffering with remorse because he was just following sido orders

it's never proven in the game that he feels bad about what he did, so we can only assume. Even if he was a victim, he still killed countless of people lol. (I still really like him even so-)

@@idea4965 Except when he turned himself in (quickly becoming angered once he was released for no reason with all his charges dropped). And sacrificed himself on Shido's ship whilst lamenting his foolish decisions in life (literally he says in plain english: "I was such a fool"). And outright expressed that he wished he could've met the protag a few years earlier so as not to have gone down the route he did in life... Or are we seriously ignoring all of that? No, he OBJECTIVELY felt remorse. Arguing otherwise is to argue with the game itself.

To be honest, Akechi will always be that damn psychopath. That’s not something that can be just forgiven, no matter how much of a rough life he had. I highly doubt I’d be able to function normally being around the person who literally caused the death of my father and mother. (Well we know for a fact he killed Okumura, one can only assume he killed Wakaba as well. Technically everything that happened is the fault of Shido but that doesn’t change the fact the their blood is on Akechi’s hands)

To yall that said akechi killed futuba mom it was never confirmed he did that

Who else could it be? She died because of a mental shut down and Akechi was the only one who could do it and have a motive to do it. I'm also pretty sure they mention it in game during the third semester.

Why is this game so hesitant to definitively say that Akechi killed Wakaba and then confront him about it? Did everyone just forget? Was Futaba not smart enough to put two-and-two together?

0:47 Akechi is a trash teammate with no direction with his kit and abilities. Change my mind, Naoto was a better Almighty Light/dark user.

Honestly if I had a choice between having Akechi, or a sweaty NEET (Pandering to the weeb demographic) and another female character that has literally zero relevance to the plot I'd choose akechi everytime

Haru and (especially)Futaba are both extremely annoying so I didn't give a shit if they wanted crow to join or not

You will be surprised when you see Shido's reaction to them dying. Basically he's like: "Does it even matter?" Yes they are mad at Akechi but nowhere near against THAT thing.

I doubt that. I don't think they want him to die and they never say anything to indicate that. They're actually pretty sympathetic and kind to him even after they learn that he killed Wakaba and Okumura, attempted to kill Joker, and they find out the truth of his past. They're just not overly excited to be working alongside the guy who literally murdered their parents lol. For what he did, they're being incredibly gracious about it.
