I've never used telemetry, but my son does. He used your two methods before and had the deck feathers either break, or they were pulled out. He went to the "Back Pack" method. What I understand, you need two people to put it on, but once it's on, it's on for good.

Thanks Mike ,I'm sure the back pack is good, I would prefer no tail use but last year we came through a good hard working season with a nice clean intact hawk,. Happy fishing and hawking Mike. Good luck ,

Bet u pulled them out doing that first time round lol best way I've found is just the clip and glue less to get caught up when diving through brambles.

Yes agree tail clip is the way ,even that has its problems as I've learnt.

I'm surprised you only showed Woody in the intro and ending of the video! I always look forward to seeing him every week, even when he is in the moult! Anyways, I liked the idea of you switching the telemetry to one with smaller antennas! However, there are upsides and downsides to using either one! Back in 2005, a neighbor lend me his Amateur Radio handbook, since I had an interest in VHF/UHF signals when I used to own an analog TV back in the day. The rabbit ears that I had were pretty long, and your telemetry device with the longer antennas reminded me of that! Even though the TinyLoc works better going though the thick brambles and forests, what you need to remember is that a smaller antenna size means the signals are more bouncy! The signals are UHF, since the antenna size is designed to receive the signal with the same wavelength! For example, a 200 MHZ signal would need a 4-foot antenna, whereas a 800 MHZ signal would need a 1.25 foot antenna. A higher frequency signal would work better in forested areas, since the less wavelength is compensated by having more thickness of the wave! This would help you find Woody better in forests, but not so much if he was further away! I do believe that the TinyLoc is the best choice, since you aren't trying to track down a falcon, this is only a hawk, with a limited territory range! Also, the way you are going to mount the transmitter on one deck feather instead of two will help, this way Woody can at least keep one of his deck feathers in case one snaps. Also, using different tone bells for both Woody and Chewy will help your hunts go more smoothly as well!

Thanks interesting about the antenna and frequency, I'm not really up on that. I didn't film Woody to much this time as I heeded to film in doors Woody wasn't happy inside, he is getting a little grumpy, but still letting me get him out on the perch. All going well considering he is a fat hawk with no real appetite.

Woody has to change his ways! I'm sure he had this grumpiness in the past, it all depends on the weather, temperature, and his willingness to explore new things! Maybe next week things will be better! After nearly 4 months into the moult, I can't imagine he'd be any different compared to a month ago! But if Woody doesn't go indoors every now and then, you won't be able to make a habit out of it so that he builds tolerance of being there! I still want his moult to go smoothly but I feel that you should still spend more time with him. If I hadn't waited nearly a year before I started watching your videos, I could have changed Woody for the better! He may be unsocialable just because he's a fat hawk, but he's gotta understand that you love and appreciate him, even if he has no idea what those concepts even mean!

@@JeremyThePlayer88 I'm just making a 4Ik video of him on his perch whilst a chat. He really does know me, he doesn't like any stranger coming into the garden, this pleases me to know he trust me. He is doing well , Woody comes out daily for some interaction, but there is a change in character at fat weight that doesn't seem to change, the less social behaviour, he is more happy watching what's going on than being to close. I'm happy we are even still able to get him out.

The tail mount you use can also be used for a bell, you can find all sizes and sort of spring tempered lips.
