    Due to a power surge, the fuse blew on my Harman Accentra. Not knowing what was wrong, I called for service but was told it would cost an absurd amount of money to have someone come out (74 miles away). By examining the wiring diagram, I guessed it was the fuse and was able to replace it myself for $3. It would be great if your videos could cover such minor maintenance, especially for those of us far from a knowledgeable service person.

    Hi and thanks for the great video. I found it very useful compared to reading the manual. I inherited a P68 pellet stove with a fairly big ranch house with a massive basement that I am looking after for the winter up here in Ontario. It's dropping down to -20 tonight so time to get this thing working. After looking at it, It seems it was kind of serviced by a previous owner but I'd say not professionally. I've been reading the cleaning instructions but I am a visual learner. Do you have a video showing all the recommended cleaning steps? Thank you very much! From a new subscriber :)

    Thanks for contacting us Alset, very glad to hear this video was helpful. The P68 is a great stove. We don't have any complete cleaning videos of the P68 at this time, but we can definitely put on our list to complete in the future. Overall the P68 is one of Harman's easiest units to clean. Few key notes here. 1. Use a big dry paint brush to brush the ash off the upper heat exchangers for max efficiency. Turn the control board feed adjuster to test while doing this so the ash is sucked in and doesn't make a mess. 2. Make sure the burnpot stays clean. Inspect the holes to make sure they are open. We offer a modified scraper tool that makes cleaning the firepot a breeze - pellethead.com/product/harman-stove-fireplace-insert-burnpot-firepot-grate-scraper-tool/ 3. Vacuum out the igniter area on the burnpot, removal of front plate. 4. Annually clean the exhaust ESP probe (we have a video on this here on youtube) 5. Annually clean out the exhaust venting and remove the plate behind the ash pan to check the combustion chamber throat and fan paddle. 6. Annually dust off the motors and blowers - no lubrication needed. 7. Annually check the sawdust cleanout box (located behind the auger motor) Clean out any accumulated pellet fines. Hope this is helpful, thanks again for subscribing! Thanks, Mr. Pellethead

  • @EarthSense

    Thanks for the message, glad it was helpful. Yeah, after the hour and any adjustments to your feed adjuster dial, go ahead and turn back to your desired temp. You may find with different pellet fuel it may need adjustment again, much of which is based on the length of the pellets. But for the most part just a good accurate way to know where that feed adjuster dial should be based on the area you're heating. Any other questions let us know, the P61 is a great stove!

    Hey Jim, based on what you are describing, I would suggest you throttle the feed adjuster down to maybe a 2 to start and once the unit is lit turn the igniter toggle to manual to keep a constant fire. Run on room temp at desired temp setting and keep the dial on the L in room setting mode. Let us know if that helps.

Even when I set the temperature to a lower Temp setting the setting is ignored and the stove is running at full bore, No Blinking lights no indication that there is an issue.. any idea's?? The Stove was professionally cleaned (full cleaning)about a month ago and everything including the temp setting seemed to be working fine. I clean the stove weekly. Not as complete as the annual cleaning but cool it down. Clean the baffles, empty and vac the firebox, scrape the burn pot, clean and vac the igniter area etc.

    Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. The most important thing to look at here would be the room sensing probe. This probe is very sensitive in monitoring the room temp and adjusting the fuel feed and blower speed based on the temperature you have set when operating in Room Temp mode. Cold drafts and direct sunlight can greatly affect the room sensing probe. First thing I would suggest would be to play with the positioning of that Room sensing probe wire - try a few different placement spots and see if anything changes. If nothing changes and it still runs at full bore on room Temp regardless of the temperature setting, I would suggest you look at getting a replacement room probe to start. They are fairly inexpensive and probably the best place to start before we would start looking at a possible issue with the control board or ESP Thermistor Probe. Here is a link pellethead.com/product/harman-room-air-temp-sensor-thermostat-sensing-probe-wire/ Hope that is helpful - keep us posted. Cheers, ESESstoves

Approximately how long would it take before blower actually turns off OR does it continue to run until I turn stove setting to off?

  • @EarthSense

    Thanks for contacting us. In Harman stoves the exhaust motor will continue to run for a period of about an hour on average until the exhaust ESP probe senses it is cool enough to safely shut down. Let us know how long the motor is running when it goes into shutdown. Thanks.

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Kevin, thanks for the message, happy to help. I assume you have a Harman and you are referring to the ESP Thermistor Probe in the exhaust hub as the proof of fire sensor. If that is not correct, just let us know what your make and model is. If it is a Harman, here is a video link on cleaning that ESP probe. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nahr0NCAfby7Xc4.html The cleaning of this probe and the stove and vent in general is greatly determined by the type of pellets you are using. Generally speaking premium softwood pellets such as Pine and Douglas Fir will provide a greater heat-output with considerably less ash and build-up in comparison to hardwood pellets. We always suggest trying a few bags of few different kinds of pellets and making assessments on what works best for you. On a side note- We always want to make sure that fire is crisp and torchy. If we are seeing any kind of a lazy sooty flame, we have other issues to address. Majority of the time this would be an ash build-up/blockage in the stove/exhaust/venting. We also suggest checking door and ash pan door gasket seals to ensure they are tight all the way around, and checking the burnpot for build-up and burnpot holes to make sure they are open and clear. Hopefully that is helpful, any other questions please let us know. Thanks!

    Hey this is a little off topic but maybe you know the answer. I have a Harmon p45 about 15 years old. Recently bought a tripp lite 750u battery backup that's supposed to last about 45 minutes so the unit can cycle down and not have smoke back up into the house. Do I have to turn the stove off when we lose power or will the stove shut down automatically when it switches over to the tripp lite. Will it know to shut itself off? Thanks, Laurie

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hey Laurie, thanks for contacting us. I'm not familiar with the Tripp lite 750u back-up system, however I would assume it works similar to other battery back-up systems. When power is lost it will switch to battery back-up and continue operation as you have it set. If you want the stove to shut down then you would need to turn your stove temp/room temp dial to off so it can go through proper shutdown. Any other questions please let us know. Thanks!

    I just bought an Accentra-2 pellet stove second hand. There is another switch that has a high and low mode for the fan. Does this over-ride the dial? Also, is it possible to connect a thermostat to the stove? Since I have it in my garage, I'd love to have a WiFi thermostat that I can remotely access to start the stove heating before I go out to work. Thanks for a the video. It was very informative.

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Mark, thanks for contacting us. Yes, the earlier Accentra FS models will have the additional blower rocker switch inside the control board cavity. It does not override the L/H on the room temp/stove temp dial, it simply is an additional blower speed adjustment. In most cases folks would leave that on low and in the coldest weather kick it up to high if the area needs that additional boost - Feel free to play around with it and find what works best for you. As for the Thermostat, the Accentra is designed to work off the Room Temp Probe which plugs into the back of the unit. It's about a 5' probe which can be extended if needed. Using room temp mode on the board and setting the temp dial to where you like it would be the most common way to operate the unit. With the igniter toggle on Auto you can set your temp and the unit will turn off and on as needed to hold that preset temp. Unfortunately with your model you would not be able to connect any kind of programmable or WiFi thermostat. Some of Harman's newer models such as the XXV-TC, Absolute Models and Allure 50 do have a digital control panels with some of those options. The Accentra is a solid unit, any other other questions or needs as you go along just let us know. Thanks!

  • @EarthSense

    Thanks for contacting us Nars. Yes that green wire with the yellow trace is the combustion blower ground wire. It doesn't necessarily need to be grounded for the motor and stove to work correctly, however it is good to have it grounded to the stove. Being a ground wire, it can literally be grounded to any metal area within the stove. Any other questions please let us know. Thanks.

    So, if in winter and in Room/Manual ignite mode, will the stove burn more or less pellets as it sort of drops the feed rate down automatically? Thanks.

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the message. Much of this depends on the insulation quality and window/door quality in the home/area that is being heated. If it's an older, draftier area that is being heated, it can be recommended to flip the igniter to manual once the stove is lit during the cold season. By doing this the stove will go to a low pilot fire and hold that fire until heat is called for. Generally speaking in a draftier/less insulated area it will be calling for heat pretty quickly and by doing this the stove is already warm and can quickly ramp up essentially using less fuel then if it were to shut down and have to re-ignite. If the home/area is very tight and well insulated, most folks will find leaving the igniter toggle on auto and having the stove shut down once temperature is reached is the most economical and fuel conscious way of operating the stove. Play around with it a bit and you'll find the best way of operation based on your situation. Any other questions please let us know. Thanks!

    I have a Harman Accentra 52i. I just had it professionally cleaned. I replaced the medallion that had warped. My husband can no longer maintain/operate it. I'm learning. Today I started it for the first time. It appeared to work beautifully. After a few hours, the feed motor and igniter lights went out and the distribution and combustion motors blow constantly. The stove is set on auto, # 3 feed, 70 degrees and medium between green and orange. I shut the whole thing down and unplugged from power. What's wrong?

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for contacting us Beatrice, happy to help. When running the unit on auto in room temp it will run and operate until the unit meets that temperature you set it at based on the room temp probe. Once temp is met, the fire will go down to the lowest setting and the unit will shut itself down if heat is not called for. The exhaust motor and distribution fan will run for a bit in shutdown - exhaust fan will run for up to an hour approx. until the exhaust probe senses that it is cool enough to shut off completely. If the unit is shutting down before temperature is met, I would first say let's take a look at the room temperature probe and possibly adjust the placement - we want to make sure drafts and/or direct sunlight is not interfering. If once the stove is shut down, the blowers continue to run and run until you actually unplug the unit, then we have a different issue. Most likely this would have to do with the exhaust ESP probe and the temperature it's reading. We do have a video that shows how to inspect/clean and replace that probe if needed, however that should have been done by your maintenance person. How long are your blowers running when the stove shuts down? As for the lights, you should find that the igniter light goes out right after initial ignition takes place. The feed light will go on and off in operation as the unit is feeding fuel - off completely when the stove is in shutdown. The Combustion light will stay solid once you turn on the stove and will shut off once the unit is completely cool. The distribution light will come on after start-up once the unit is warm enough and will stay solid until the unit shuts down and is cool enough to shut the blower off. Let's start with the simple things first and we can take it from there. Keep us posted, happy to help. Thanks!

    HI, I have a P43 that recently the distribution fan would stop when in stove temp, with a setting at 5. It does it both in auto and manual mode. There would be a fire, maybe smaller than normal. Reverting back to room temp and the fan will instantly turn back on. Any suggestion on what could be the issue?

    Hey Aaron, thanks for contacting us. This is most likely an ESP Probe issue, control board issue or a combination of the two. First try just cleaning your ESP probe - we have a video on our page here that will show that process. Thanks for the message Brian. Glad to hear the video was helpful! With you mentioning the control board dial, I would lean towards this being the potentiometer in the control board wearing out a bit. The potentiometer is what the knob dial plugs into. Besides the control board the only other element that controls the Distribution blower in a Harman P61 will be the Exhaust ESP Thermistor Probe. Here's a reference vid on cleaning of that probe. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nahr0NCAfby7Xc4.html If it is the control board you can keep adjusting like you have been to get it to turn off. Thanks for the message Nick. So you have an open/empty fireplace? Or is there a wood or gas insert currently in there? If you have an open fireplace where no other fuel is burning, you can most certainly place a Freestanding Harman stove in front and run a combination of Ridgid PL Vent to the chimney and then a 3" or 4" PL Flex Pipe up the chimney. Harman also offers different fireplace insert models at different sizes/dimensions if you wanted to place an insert directly into your fireplace. Let us know of any other questions you have. We got a brand new p43 and it doesn't work half the time. It'll take 30 minutes to auto ignite. Sometimes I need to turn it off and back on to let it go through another ignition cycle. Once it's going, it may shut itself off after a few hours. We replaced our old pellet stove that has been discontinued and parts are no longer made for it, old stove was better until it kicked the bucket. Any ideas? Thanks

    Thanks for contacting us Edgar. Sorry to hear of the troubles. The Harman P43 is one of our best selling models and one of Harman's best selling models. I'm sure once we work the kinks out here you will love the unit. Ignition: Should be auto lighting within the first 10 minutes. If we can, let's check the igniter Ohms to make sure it's in operable range. It should read between 45 and 53 Ohms. If outside that range (Higher or Lower) there will be issues with proper ignition. Double check the igniter cavity - Make sure the throat area is clear and that the igniter in the cradle is mounted properly and evenly to the burnpot. Double check your burnpot holes - make sure they are all open and clear. Shutting Down: When it shuts down on you are you getting a Status light blink code? If you are operating the stove in Room Temp Mode with your igniter toggle on Auto, the unit will shut itself off when heat is no longer required and light itself when heat is demanded. If you turn that igniter toggle to manual after it's lit, it will stay burning at a low fire until heat is eventually called for. On Stove Temp Mode it operates off the numbers in the inner temp dial. Set rates of feed and heat output. Some folks like running in Stove Temp vs Room Temp. When it's running what does your fire look like? Is it crisp and torchy or is it wavy/lazy? Let us know any other details that will help us assist. Confident that once you get the hang of the P43 that you will love the unit. Keep us posted. Thanks,

    Hey Kathryn, thanks for the message. Yeah, we definitely have some things to look at with the P68. We never want to see lazy, rolling flames; on all settings we want to see crisp, bright, torchy flames. Could very well be that your vacuum switch is shutting the feed motor down when you go to lower settings. Ash build-up in the unit and exhaust venting would be the number one cause for a vacuum switch to trip as well as seeing those lazy, rolling flames. We would first suggest a complete and thorough cleaning of the stove and venting. If you need tips or don't have the owners/maintenance manual just let us know. Once clean, let's also check the gasket seals on the door, ash pan door, glass, and hopper lid; we need to make sure those are all sealing tight all the way around. Keep us posted, happy to help.

    So... Am I to assume that the feed adjuster dial only comes into play, when in stove temperature / constant burn mode?

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the message. The Feed Adjuster Dial Only Comes into play on Room Temp Mode. On Stove Temp mode it is just a set rate of feed based on where you have the temperature control dial set. The inside 1-8 will be the set feed settings on Stove Temp Mode. For Room Temp mode is where you will want to make adjustments to the feed adjuster. Rule of thumb for the feed adjuster setting: From a cold stove, crank the temperature dial up to 90 degrees on Room Temp so it's calling for maximum fuel. After 60 minutes of burning, your fire line should be 1" from the edge of the burnpot. If it's burning down lower in the burnpot, increase the feed adjuster. If it's at the edge of the burnpot or pushing hot coals over, decrease the feed adjuster. The Feed adjuster acts as a governor for the max fuel that can come in to the unit. Larger, draftier areas generally need this to be higher. Smaller, well insulated areas generally need the feed adjuster to be lower. Again if you are running on Stove Temp mode it will not matter where you have the feed adjuster set. Any other questions please let us know. Thanks,

    Am I incorrect in assuming that when in room temperature mode the stove will feed pellets at a speed necessary to achieve and maintain that set temperature no matter what the feed adjuster is set at.

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the message Captain. The feed adjuster dial is best thought of as a limit/governor. In room temp mode the unit will adjust fuel feed as needed to maintain the set temperature, however it will not exceed where the feed adjuster is set. So for example, if I have a 40,000 BTU Harman model, and I have my feed adjuster set to a 3 setting, I am setting the max feed at 20,000 BTU which would be approx. 2.5lbs per hour of fuel consumption. Feed adjuster best settings really depend on the space one is trying to heat and how well it is insulated. Best practice is to turn the stove all the way to 90 and see where the fire line is in the burnpot after 60 minutes. Looking for a 1" fire line to the edge of the burnpot. If it's burning down deeper in the pot, turn the feed adjuster up higher. If the fire line is closer to the edge than an inch, turn the feed adjuster down a bit. You may find variances on where you set the feed adjuster based on different pellets and dramatic weather changes. Hopefully that was helpful, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks!

We do two burns, about an hour each. First burn gradually increasing the fire and heat output, second burn cranked all the way up. Open and close your front door and ash door a few times throughout the process so that the door gasket does not adhere to the stove body. Thanks for the message, happy to assist. It sounds like as you make that adjustment and voltage is differentiating to the blower that it is making that noise. I would not say that is normal, you should be able to have the dial on L or H or in between without a noise such as that emitting. You can certainly run it on High to avoid the noise, however it is nice to be able to adjust the room air speed depending on the fire size and desired air blowing out. I would check to see when the last blower replacement was put in; if it was a factory blower it would be a 90 day warranty, if it was aftermarket most will have a 6 mo or 1 year warranty. Placement of the room sensing probe is very important - make sure it's not picking up drafts or direct sunlight. If I run on stove temp mode, does the blower speed have anything to do with how many bags of pellets you burn a day? For example, if I have my feed at 3.5 and stove temp of 1. If I lower my blower speed does it save on the amount of pellets I burn a day? I was just told it did and not sure how. I have a newer P 68 and he has an older model controls like above with Low and High speed. I can't get under 1.5 bags a day and he only burns 1 with basically the same style ranch home and burning the same pellets. Thanks !

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the message Kristy, happy to help. Direct answer to your question is no. Adjustment of the blower speed plays no effect on your pellet usage. We would suggest that if you are running the stove on stove temp at the lowest settings, that it is ideal to have the blower turned down lower for best efficiency. If the stove is running on a low setting and the blower is on a high setting the heat level output temperature/efficiency will be less than if the blower is on low. When you are operating on Stove Temp mode the Feed Adjuster Dial is not in play. That dial ONLY comes into play when operating in room temp mode. When operating in stove temp mode, the pellet feed/temp settings are only based on where you have the main dial set on the 1 through 8. Newer P68 models have a 6 RPM auger feed motor. I do believe the lowest feed rate the unit is able to run at is 1.5 lbs per hour (1-1/2 bags per day). The Advance model as shown in the video would depend on what kind of feed system was in it. Early models have the chain drive, newer models direct drive. Depending on that, the lowest feed rate on an Advance would be 1.2 - 1.5lbs per hour. As a suggestion, play around with room temp mode. Do some tests at different temperature settings and see what difference you notice with fuel usage. You can leave the igniter toggle on auto so it shuts on and off as needed. There's also big differences in pellet fuel especially with heat output, maybe try a few different kinds. If we are running on room temp mode and burning a hotter pellet, temperature should be reached sooner where the stove can then go down to a low fire and shut itself off if needed. Hope this was helpful, any other questions just let us know. Thanks!

    @@kristydobinski612 Thanks for the message back Kristy. Yes, the earlier P68 models used a 4RPM auger motor so the lowest feed rate will be slightly less than the newer model. Sounds good, whatever works best for you. One last suggestion, if the stove is running on very low settings for extended periods of time it's recommended to periodically turn it up to higher setting for a short period of time. This will help avoid heavy carbon deposits in the burnpot and creosote build-up in the stove and flue vent pipe which tends to happen during extended operation on low settings. Hey Doug, thanks for the message. Heat will naturally rise, however this will be very dependent on your basement and the insulation you have down there. A finished and insulated basement can make a huge difference on how much heat goes upstairs and how much fuel you use doing that. The more ways you can find to circulate the air the better. BTU wise the P68 is a powerhouse - it's all about capturing that heat within the house and circulating it to get your desired effect and warmth. Any other questions please let us know. Try running the fan only if you have a furnace system in the house. We also offer floor, wall to wall, and corner doorway frame fans that can help move and circulate heat. Hi, My power light is constantly on. Is that normal? With the rising cost of electric this year, it is costing me a lot of money to keep it on 24/7. Is there a way to unplug it and will that damage the unit if I keep it unplugged because I really don’t use it. If I can unplug it, how do I get to the back of the unit because it is set up like a fireplace in my living room.

    Hi Sandra, thanks for the message. Yes, on a Harman the power light will stay on when it's plugged into the wall - that is normal. If you have a fireplace insert it would depend on how that was installed/where the electrical outlet is. Sometimes an electrical outlet will be inside the fireplace opening and in other scenarios it would be plugged in outside the fireplace opening to a nearby outlet. If you don't see your power cord anywhere than most likely it is in the firebox and would require pulling the unit out to unplug it. Most Harman inserts are on a track system making them easier to pull out than most for cleaning/maintenance, etc.. Hope that is helpful, if you need additional assistance just let us know. Thanks!

    Thanks for contacting us. That is not a common one. Obviously if power is going to that igniter continuously it will also burn the igniter element out pretty quick. The first thing I would suggest is to get an ohm reading on the igniter with a basic multi-meter; there's a small chance it's an igniter issue (Testing Igniter pellethead.com/how-to-test-and-replace-a-stove-igniter-pellet-stove-ignition-troubleshooting/). Harman OEM Finned Igniter should be reading 45-53.0 ohms in proper range. Second I would tell you to clean the ESP Probe (video below) The ESP senses temp in the exhaust and gives signal to the control board from start-up to normal operation. In most cases this circumstance will be a control board issue giving constant power to the igniter. You can certainly inspect the control board and see if anything looks abnormal. If you flip your igniter toggle to manual after it lights, does it then shut off? Happy to help. Thanks. ESP Cleaning: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nahr0NCAfby7Xc4.html

Here is a link to the Advance manual - downloads.hearthnhome.com/installManuals/Advance_Owners_Man_09730c.pdf 1.Generally speaking a person would fill their fuel hopper to the top with pellets. The unit will regulate the feed based on your settings. 2. A person would require an inverter and battery backup system for the Advance to run properly if AC power goes out. David, Thanks for contacting us. I ran this past our lead tech - here is the information he provided: Unless it’s clarified, my assumption is that he’s measuring temperature of the dist fan air. Harman realized that older control boards were running the stove to cool thus promoting creosote formation in the stove but more importantly the exhaust venting . With the introduction of the 5886 A-F and the newer manual light stove boards, the minimum exhaust temp was raised from 200 degrees to 285 degrees. Naturally this means the room air is going to be higher when compared to the older boards. It’s all about stove performance and safety. Hope that helps, any other questions please let us know. Thanks for the message Robert. The power cord will be on the rear of the unit. On a new unit it is often tucked up under the rear panel to the left of the exhaust hub. If you remove one on the bottom rear panels you will most certainly see it. Yes, important to put high temp sealant around each vent connection once locked in place. Once you have the vent adapter on the rear exhaust hub, you will use the sealant on that connection as well. We have a couple basic videos on installation; corner install linked below. This installation video is with Direct Temp Vent which is a bit larger and pulls in the fresh air with the same pipe, but still can be a good reference if you are using standard 3" or 4" PL Venting. Thanks for contacting us Napoleon. A 6 Blink Status Indicates poor or incomplete combustion occurring for more than 50 minutes. Here are some things that can cause this- 1. If the stove ran out of pellets. - You can simply turn the heat selector to off and back on again to reset 2. Cleaning/Maintenance - A. Check the Burnpot holes to make sure they are open. Make sure the burnpot is scraped well. B. Remove the inner panels and thoroughly clean all heat exchanger tubes C. Remove the combustion plate behind the ash pan - clean the impeller and exhaust throat. D. Make sure the vent piping is clean and free of excess ash build-up. 3. Check your Combustion/Exhaust motor. Make sure it appears it's running as it should. Over time this can get weak and no longer be operating at correct voltage 4. Make sure your door gasket seal looks good and is sealing tight all the way around. You should have a crisp, torchy looking fire in proper operation. If it's in any way lazy, it's likely one or more of the above mentioned items is contributing to that and in turn causing the 6 Blink Status light code. @@Bobcagon Thanks for the message back. On Stove Mode there is no set temperature, no thermostat function in place. It's just a set rate of fuel feed depending where you have the 1-7 dial set. Example. On Stove Temp mode, if we have it on setting # 1, most Harman's will run at approx. 1lb of fuel per hour. It does not matter how warm or cold it is, the stove will run continuous at 1lb per hour. If it's say the Harman Accentra which is 40,000 BTU and we set the dial at 7 on Stove Temp mode, it will feed 5lbs an hour steady. Does not matter how hot or how cold the room is or temperature outside - it's a set rate of feed.
