You mentioned connecting batteries in series to increase capacity. Connecting in series will increase voltage which could damage the inverter/charger. To increase capacity multiple batteries should be connected in parallel to increase amperage thereby increasing capacity.

Are there any versions of this battery backup/inverter/charger that will work with the new Lithium Iron Phosphate marine-grade batteries? I think that main difference is the battery trickle charge needs to change from 13.2VDC (for led-acid/gel) to 14.4VDC (for LiFePo4).

Do you know the difference between series and parallel ? Series 12 volt to 12 volt makes 24 volt DC.

4:55 I’m sure he means parallel not series. Also, with the Harman stoves, if they see power with a modified sine-wave, they go into shut down mode and pulse fan every few seconds to clear chamber of smoke for like 30 minutes. Using a pure sine-wave will keep stove running. However, if you are not around when the battery depletes, the stove will shut off line it will in a normal grid failure. This can cause smoke to seep from stove.

Will this keep the stove running or will it just allow it to run through it’s shutdown sequence? I have an Englander 25-pah. When power is interrupted for 1 minute or less the stove shuts off and does not power back on when the electric comes back on. Harmon recommends a Ups unit that will protect the stove and allow them to run long enough to complete the stove shut down process. Is this unit different? Will it keep the power going continuous so the stove doesn’t power off even for a s second or two? I get brief power interruptions during the night and need something to keep it going.

Agree with jdjuggler, everything else I have found requires multiple batteries to be connected in Parallel, as batteries connected in series with increase the voltage to 24, or 36, or 48 volts, and potentially damage your $500 inverter!

Informative video. Thanks for sharing this information. I'm definitely interested in this alternative. I have several questions. (1) With the SF512 setup, what happens when the battery array runs out of charge? Will it initiate a shutdown of the stove like the Harman-recommended UPS does? Or could/should the UPS be used in conjunction with the SF512? (2) For extended power outages, could/should the SF512 be used in conjunction with a portable generator? I have read that generators do not produce a clean enough sine wave to run the stove, but would the SF512, powered by a generator, solve the sine wave issue (again, this would be in the case when I have no juice left in the battery)?

If your stove has a built-in initiate shut down based on voltage then it will. These units were designed for the Harman stoves. Yes great questions, it is set up to buy you time to prevent smoke in your house. You can always add more batteries as well. Generators are excellent for long term backup and they will recharge batteries also.

Great video with lots of great information. My question is whether or not there are OTHER pure sine wave inverters that will work with Harman pellet stoves that do no require an dpi switch adjustments, and that will, as you mentioned, run both the electronics AND motors in the Harman. I know Harman also recommends a Tripp Lite inverter option, etc. In any case, I am trying to figure out of a decent, let's say, 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter you can get online will work with a harman stove? I've been trying to order the 512 lately, but it's been sold out everywhere thus far. So I guess that's a good thing!

So I just bought this and hooked it up with a battery and plugged it into my comfortbilt hp22 pellet stove. I tested it and the sure fire doesn’t transfer from house power to battery power fast enough and my stove shuts off. It will turn the blower back on once it transfers but the stove will not turn back on unless I manually hit the power button. Is there a way to make the transfer from house power to battery power faster so the stove doesn’t shut down?

They suggest as far as possible If you remember back in the day when batteries used to gas very flammable gases. Batteries are much much better but the company wants to prevent possible lawsuits. When I ran mine I was about 4 feet away with no issues. But use your best judgment and I'm not an expert on batteries and gases.

And when the battery is depleted - house fills up with smoke. Why not add in a simple control circuit that will open a circuit when the battery level reaches a certain level. This can be connected to the thermostat sensor and effectively tell the stove to begin its shut down process (Harman stove). I would think he meant to put batteries in PARALLEL and not series. Perhaps place a UPS (modified sine wave type) between the Surefire 512 and the stove. This way when the Surefire 512 runs out of battery power, the MSW inverter kicks in and begins a stove shut down. I know, there are inefficiencies in this, but it's better than smoke! If I were designing the Surefire 512, I would put a battery voltage monitor to open a relay. When voltage dropped, the relay would break the circuit of the room temp sensor and the stove would start shutting down.

This is exactly what I was looking for but, $500 for the inverter then another $100 for a battery. At todays prices of gas (2023) Ill just hook up my gas generator and buy a thick coat and still save money. Can't even buy this thing anywhere anyways comments 3 yrs ago says you sold out. Ever think of making more?

Yes, you can do that, but you need to do that every time the power goes out. and then put everything away when power returns. This system does it automatically and then re-charges your battery. Remember the power goes out usually while you are sleeping... LOL Jeff
