Hardwood bed frame - DIY Build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
For my ever first real DIY project, I decided I would design and build myself a queen bed frame out of hardwood (wormy chestnut).
Started with an idea, sketched it out, then took it into SketchUp for a 3D model of it. Ordered a lot of wood for the project as I was wary that I might stuff some of it up along the way... in the end I used about 30 metres of timber for the bed, and still have about 10+ spare for bedside tables.
The build took about approx. 80 hours of effort over a handful of weekends. Thankfully had some help for some of it or it would've taken a fair bit longer. Start to finish was around a month of work. It was certainly a lot to bite off, but it all came together very well in the end and I couldn't be happier with it!
The slats came from IKEA, and the side rail and centre rail brackets came from here: elraco.com.au/?product=genuin...

Yes the music is bad. Yes I should have been wearing footwear. You'll be happy to know I'm working on a new build video which will hopefully make up for the mistakes I made in this one! Should be finished building and have the video up with a month or two... stay tuned folks.

Wonderful seeing so many clips of a saw moving.
Very nice. The chestnut is beautiful.
love the music...! love this bed! 😁 I thought, what a human being can do with his hands?... wonderful things😁👌
Great lookin bed, thanks for sharing!
Why do people give thumbs down or dislikes. Here is someone who is doing something positive that he enjoys. He has limited tools but does a nice job with what he has. Thanks for sharing. And as far as the bare feet go, he will learn his lesson . Nice bed keep up the vids

I would give a thumbs down or dislike because this is suppose to be a tutorial video and the guy doesn't talk or explain anything throughout the entire thing. That's a good enough reason for me. Why waste the time making the video if you're not going to do it correctly and explain what you're doing and the equipment/materials necessary to do the project?

New video is up - hopefully I did better this time round!
I like that the video showed me the structure of how the bed is built. Maybe the your next video could be a detailed tutorial of how you built and framed each piece, what tools you used, and any additional information that would be beneficial to someone actually trying to build this. It came out beautiful, good job.
Nice work can't wait to build mine.
Looks like a great project for my new planer. I've never used a planer before so I'm looking forward to trying it out. Need to find me some good hardwood.
Impressive work, I am going to try next week, it is so fancy but rustic, simple but complex, it is amazing. Thank you for sharing
Thank you very much, I really enjoy you video. Music is awesome, I hope it represents your state of mind when you build, cause it become a form of art.
Very nice build and one that will stand the test of time. Great to see a creation that isn't laminated MDF.

Bon travail!! Good job!!
Looks good, but curiously, do those brackets allow for movement? I have a pair of them in my amazon cart for when I build my new frame, but I'm concerned how they will deal with movement over the years.
Wow I need that in king size place
Looks like a $3000 bed. I know how good it feels to wake up on such an awesome bed you've made. Cheers.

The subjects covered in this woodworking website *TopFineWoodworking. Com* varies from wood types to tool types and uses. A few other subjects range from the various kinds of wood along with their distinct levels of difficulty when it comes to managing them. If you are still a beginner in wood working, then you will find this book very beneficial.
yes good job! I think you could write or say what you do and why, if you want to make the video as a tutorial to help people out to build a bed. What kind of wood did you use? what did you use to mark around minute 3:38? And what is the first liquid ? thanks
A masterpiece
How did you get the headboard to be strong while it is on an angle?
@KastnerFurniture
6 жыл бұрын
10:51 you can see there are two triangles behind it. These were dowelled and glued onto the back of the headboard. Then with the tops of the side rails, there are a couple of holes that I have run two allen key bolts (on each side) into an inset nut in the bottom of of those two triangles. Means the headboard can come off nicely... and holds it nice and tight - has a tiny bit of movement but it doesn't get much weight on it anyway.
Nice TWOONE artwork in the back ground.

Chris I LOVE THIS BED!! I want to make it. Can I purchase plans from you? Or are plans available?
Great quality on the bed frame! I love the choice of wood you used and the design is simple and clean. I was curious about what angle you cut on your headboard? I like the angled design and might replicate that element on a build I have coming up! Thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work!
@KastnerFurniture

Think its about 15 degrees... basically held it up where I thought it looked the best then measured the inside angle at the back. Used that to cut an angle along the base and also cut out some triangles so it could attach to the bed frame

Well I mean I did it myself in my kitchen with no experience so I'm not sure any anyone else couldn't. Aside from the thicknesser, if you bought dressed timber you could build this with a circular saw, a sander, and a drill... which are all cheaper than buying a hardwood bed.
Classic 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Criss can you tell us the name of this music?
I would always prefer a voiceover explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it to any music. Nice bed.
Great works Bro. But I think that your head panel is so short when you put the mattress and the pillows in their places, if it tall over the pillows around 3"-4" that look so better and able to supports your back when you sitting.

So... where is the video where you show us how to build the shin protectors to go with the bed???
What type of wood is it? How has it been holding up with expansion or warping? Thanks for any info
@KastnerFurniture
4 жыл бұрын
It's Australian wormy chestnut, which is a type of eucalyptus. 2 years in and no movement or warping. Solid as a rock. Making it in 6 separate parts that slot together allows for some movement... all the joins are glued and dowelled along the length so think that's helped hold it all together. Have moved house once and it was a dream to reassemble!
Beautiful job Thickness of the boards? Paolo
Hi, great job. Are you in Austria? What was the approx cost of wood used? Thnx

Australia... I think I spent about $1200 on 50ish metres of timber. For the bed I think I used about 20-25 of that, so I guess maybe $500-600ish?
