"Floating" Platform Bed
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Thank for watching!
This is an old woodworking project that I recently pieced together. I'm still trying to improve my editing skills, so pardon the mediocre editing. On the other hand, the "Floating" Platform Bed turned out very well in my opinion, keeping in mind that it was one of my first big woodworking projects. I currently use as my own personal bed and it's very sturdy. Maybe I went a little crazy with those cross members, but hey at least it wont break anytime soon.

Did you make you bed yet ? There is a great article by Ian Kirby on building Torsion Boxes. Very lightweight and strong/resistant to twisting. It's the same principle as Airplane wings. Fine Woodworking, ?1982. Let me know if you can't find it.
Looks great! It really is a good feeling to sleep on something you made!

Buen trabajo, felicidades-
Un hermoso trabajo el mejor de todos
The amount of wood used in this is astronomical. I'm sure one can use less like 50pc less to achieve the same result and make it easy to assemble and disassemble.
10/10 on your music selection! Your video was pleasant to listen to.
This is amazing , can U share the plan aswell thanks, as I want to build it
Parabéns ótimo trabalho 👏👏👏👏

You produced an attractive and sleek design, so congratulations. My experience with this kind of furniture is that it's difficult to get in/out of the bed without banging my shins on the platform's edges. So I would want either to be sure that all the platform's edges are strong enough to stand on when I enter or leave the bed, or at least to round off the platform's sharp edges and corners in some way. Your design should also support convenient disassembly of the bed frame, so that it can be moved from room to room or to another home if desired.
What was your process when finishing the wood? Was that wood conditioner and what type of stain? It looks fantastic.
This man build this with just a power tools and a skill saw... pretty bad ass..

Has already been said but very nice efficient, minimal production method! Can you please tell more about your finishing/staining methods? Wipe on poly?
@CarloRay
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I start with pre-stain conditioner to avoid blotches and unevenness of stain. Then I mixed equal parts of dark walnut stain, English chestnut stain and mineral spirits. Left it to dry for a day and finished with wipe-on poly. I did three coats of wipe-on poly, sanded lightly and did 2-3 more coats. Sanding in between.
This design is amazing! Can you share the specs or blueprint so I can replicate? I'd love to do one of my own. Thanks!

I enjoyed the simplicity of production. And it was nice not listening some guy try to keep it alive with forced energy. I think I’m gonna make what you made. Probably with an angled headboard. Not sure how yet, but I’ll get there.

I’ve been looking to build a floating bed and I love this design you made. Would you be willing provide me with measurements for this project for a queen size bed.
@blackrabbitgaming4810
4 жыл бұрын
Just take your queen size mattress measurements and start by making the mattress base from there most of the other measurements could be too your preference
Genial 👍💪
Wonderful, bit don't you need to fix it between the upper and lower frames?
Excelente proyecto .. me gustaría hacer ese proyecto sería bueno q puedas poner las medidas. Saludos desde Perú
Very nice. If you don't mind, What did You apply prior to putting on the dark stain?
@CarloRay
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It's a pre stain conditioner, which helps avoid blotches when staining. If you try it, it should give you a more even colour in the end.
You could wrap foundation around with veneered plywood .
I was waiting for a actual floating bed
Are these type of beds practical ??? Thinking of buying one but not sure yet
Bro, quiero hacer algo similar aquí en México, podrías pasarme medidas de las tablas y productos que utilizaste para teñir la madera por favor?

I really liked the project. I have 2 questions ... What is the thickness of the wood? How many protrudes from each side? (the inked part)
@CarloRay
4 жыл бұрын
The wood is 3/4" 9x96" pine boards. After cutting the 45° angle length wise and joining them, they protrude about 6.5" x3.5". 👍

What kind of wood or stain u use did u have to plane any of the wood most 2x6 come all warped
Nice. Usually I don‘t like stained wood particulary pine. But this one came out pretty awesome!!! Great job. What did you apply before the first coat of stain?
@CarloRay
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used pre-stain wood conditioner, it helps give a more even stain especially on pine which tends to get very blotchy!

Thank you, I used pine boards which are cheap and easy to cut. And the bed is extremely sturdy. Maybe too sturdy for a build like this but thats what I was going for.
