What's hilarious is that is Hal's mindset. When you get experienced enough that Weaver starts your training on Type 2 reactors, explaining about safeing them by cutting off fuel and coolant, Hal is all "or you can just rip that puppy out and barge it quick!"
@SlyRoapa

@@WNytes Thing is, Hal's method works just fine. Even if you rip it straight out, you still have plenty of time to barge it, as long as you stripped away the outer hull first.

@@SlyRoapa In a way, the difference between Weaver's and Hal's mentality mirrors the difference in a real world vs gaming approach to things. Playing as a gamer you can go pretty fast and loose - the game is pretty forgiving except for Atlas engines randomly murdering you - but if you're trying to role play as someone with a reasonable sense of self preservation, you're gonna play it a lot safer

Indeed. If anyone knows of more music like this, please share it!
Ok, now that I’ve tried to dig into this game’s audio myself, I have a greater appreciation for what this video is. Edit: I put the soundtrack on KZread. It’s mixes are different than these, some better, some worse, but mostly insignificant. kzread.info/head/PLAlZj3w4wjC-Xvk7Et7Xwie49Y-ClGfj3 I’m working on getting reduced variants uploaded as well, and also the reactor meltdown music Hardspace shipbreaker has an excellent dynamic music system. But it’s made of layers, as it needs to be able to drop the synth whenever tension ends, and fade into high quality after sufficiently long enough time. this video had to mash mutually exclusive sound layers together, because the high definition soundtrack and the synth tension part never occur simultaneously, which is a complete shame. I don’t know what it’s like working with .wem files, I have no experience and was scared off by having to sign up to audiokinetics to get wwise, the tool for this audio file type, but I’m sure glad someone did. Dynamic soundtracks are usually disappointingly poorly converted into static music, and the official game OST on steam doesn’t have any synth whatsoever (but does have two copies of every song, except labor of love which is completely missing????) Overall, thanks for giving me my favourite sci-fi music to listen to while playing completely unrelated games

this is common for most games that uses Audiokinetic Wwise. i did so archeology on Papo & Yo which also has a dynamic music system and the same middleware. i even had the pleasure to exchange some mails with the composer of the game about it.

gotta love the different tributes in the image. the kid, but wearing a lynx cuff, the dino for firefly, the synth background in the window, . ... and how still in the far future looking at a screen causes bad posture.

Aren't the synth versions the "danger" versions of the OST that play when you fucked up?
Honestly like these versions better than the official releases; their mix of the "synth" track is a little too subtle for my taste.
If anyone's looking for an example of this, outside of the game and ahead of its time, try Journey of The Sorcerer by The Eagles
58:00 Still here, still listening, still never seen anything of that game. In fact, I just read the description two minutes ago to realize the title of this vid's the title of a game. I guess I'm gonna have to take a look at it if this is the soundtrack.

i'm imagining the speedruns i see where someone sacrifices their life and limb to get 1.4 million dollars in one shift. that gameplay doesn't really fit the music but that's the only thing that's playing as they rip parts off the ship without regard to the fuel and coolant lines lighting them on fire and freezing them solid

I agree, but it's also true this is how it plays in-game. I think the reason that that in-game isn't so obvious is that the music was playing normally at first, it switches over to the synth for a few seconds while something intense/you fucked up is happening, and then goes back to normal. And a lot of the time your radio breaks and you get squat, so I think this is why you never really notice it being two songs at once.! For me, listening to them on their own, it's a hit and a miss, some I like, some I don't, but to each their own!
This is just the stress version of the tracks...
I CANT HEAR THE MUSIC OVER THE GOD AWFUL SYNTH.
