Depends on the company. Most chains (restaurant or retail) have cut their staffing so much over the years, the managers end up running around doing all the work and spend a min. time "managing". I know, I used to work in retail mgt. for over a decade (before I wisely got out). It was a decent gig at first, but when corporate's greedy ass started cutting staff's hours year after year, toward the end I was just a stressed out glorified stockboy/cashier chasing my own tail trying to keep up with everything. It sucked ass.

There are tricks you can use to drive those times down even with the slowest customers. Wait until they're done/almost done ordering to start ringing it in so you arent on the clock while they're still ordering. You have to know how much you can accurately memorize in order for this to be effective, otherwise you'll lose time asking them to repeat themselves or getting the order wrong. Anything past 3 meals and I knew I had to start ringing it in. Each time a customer orders an item quickly repeat it back to them followed by "care for anything else this evening/morning/today?" That way you can confirm the end of the order more quickly. And if someone needs time but they're taking a while, randomly say "I'm sorry what was that?" as though you cant hear them. Even if they arent ready yet this at least gets them talking so you can gauge how much longer they'll take, and you can always chalk the misunderstanding up to the intercom.

My first "real job" (if you can call it that) was at a company owned Taco Bell. They set impossible goals. Something like 20 seconds from the time the order is taken until everything is complete. Those goals were just used as reasons to fire managers that they didn't like. The happy employees in this video were proud of their 22 second service at the start. The only way you can keep doing that is either serve the customers slop, or frozen hamburgers. It's impossible. At In-N-Out Burger, service is slow, but customers are OK with that, knowing a better product takes longer. Waiting five minutes for something that is good is worth the wait. 22 seconds gets you something that is inedible. If that's what you want, go to the place in this video.

The local Hardee's was my favorite when I was a kid (mid 80's). For about a year I worked at the same Hardee's as a teen in the mid 90's when I was a freshman in high school. Not long after the were bought/merged (whatever) out by Carl's Jr. and it all went to shit. Those p.o.s. terminals were old and outdated when I worked there. I remember them well... they were awful. I also remember those drive through headsets. They were analog (obviously) and worked on the same freq. as every toy two-way radio, baby monitor, and portable phone out there so you can imagined how useful they were.

Pretending that living in the past will solve your problems will only create problems. Full time at $3.50 an hour is about $8k gross per year. My mother raised us on a moderately higher income on her own in a mediocre house that had no A/C. She she paid about $4k per year on her mortgage. After taxes...NO! You couldn't make minimum wage back then and own a home even if you split a mortgage payment. If you earn minimum wage right now, just as back then, your are putting in minimal effort and don't deserve a better life. Wages are tied to effort. If a person wants more then they should try harder to get more.

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, the location is in Rocky Mount, NC Sadly the building is non operational and just sits there. That Advance Auto moved across the street (beside the yellow building which used to be Hardee’s) and that trapezoid looking building in background is an after market car audio location. Where Advance Auto move from is now a hair salon and a florist. A lot of these videos were shot in Rocky Mount and if you find others I can point them out too
