    This is the first time i saw an indirect injection 4D56 diesel engine being started without its glowplugs. It started rightaway with ease and im in totally awe. What you have is a very clean engine and kind a brandnew injection pump. You clearly stated everything what is right and just. I agree with you , its just a simple leak in the system that will introduces air and eventually causes hard starting. Now i know. Thanks to your video, i learned a lot with you, your the kind of person that truly knows the wonder of diesel engines especially the 4D56's. Some were just pretending or do copycats and dont know sh*t about what their doing.

    All diesels are direct injection right? Coz indirect injections are port injection used by older gasoline engines...

  • @MrDIYer

    @MrDIYer

    no sir. older diesel engines with conventional ve pumps usually are indirect injection system, meaning diesel is injected in a swirl chamber. some newer diesel engines are tdi. turbocharged direct injection. its different from a gas engine wheren injection happens before the intake valve(port injection) although some gas engines now have direct injection too. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oGyu1JSzZ9maqqw.html

    😊 I helped overhaul a Mitsubishi 6DB1 that was 1998. After overhauling glow plugs not yet available. Chief mechanic decided to test run the engine, told me to remove intake air cleaner and prepare gas torch. When set-up was ready, lit the gas torch and put near intake manifold port while engine started to crank. 3 attempts when white smoke out on exhaust then it runs. Chief was experienced also in Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar engines for locomotive and heavy equipment.

    I agree and very thankfull to your tutorials vedio Sir. your vedios are all informative.just today i seen my father inlaw mitsubishi space gear L400.every morning he almost drain out his battery to start the engine.its almost a year since the mechnic touch the engine to replace a glow plug and install a wrong glow plug.its longer than the iriginal glow plug so all new glow plug are dead or busted.im not a mechanic i am an engineer.because of this vedio so i come ti check the engine of my inlaw car.so i just replace the fuel pump assembly because it does not anaymore suck fuel when i bleed manualy and after replacing the fuel pump i bleed rigth away and without the use of the glow plug because they are all busted it start right away and my father in law was very happy.i didnot buy glow plug but i let him see that the glow plug are all busted but see it start easily not a matter of 2sec unlike before.this is very true bleeding the fuel line it the best remedy.Thank you Sir for sharing your knowledge to every one.👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

    So..whilst i appreciate what you are saying about potential airleaks causing poor starting..im sure that would cause poor starting hot or cold. Always best to check the glowplug circuits before replacing any parts followed by a resistance check on the actual glowplugs to see if one or more has failed They are quite cheap n easy to replace. Good video 😎😎

    I have this cold start issue. And I find when my l300 sits for awhile 3-4 hours it will then have a hard start but it will not have an issue if I have run it and restart it (hot start). In my mind this is because the diesel has leaked out of the lines. I have no cold start issues when I manually pump the lines

  • @harwoods11

    @@yesnomaybe3372 You can check by manually pumping up the fuel pressure by using the pump on the fuel filter. It's still a good idea to resistance test the glow plugs. If your engine is the later common rail diesel it will have a far higher pressure fueling system.. So many different problems. Best to get a diagnostic test carried out both hot and cold.

    Thank you. Followed your advice to bleed my pump and the bleed screw has never ending bubbles. I removed the suction hose and I confirm a suction but it's a bit weak. I pumped the feed pump a few times before I started it cold and it took a maybe 3-5 seconds to start....... compared to maybe 20-30 seconds of hard starting before watching your video. My fuel consumption is also excessive even though I have a newly overhauled engine. Was calibrated last year but am unsure if the calibrator was good. 2 questions: 1) is my feed pump dead because of the never ending bubbles in the bleed screw and weak suction (unsure how strong it should be), and 2) any thoughts on my excessive fuel consumption? Maybe you should do a video on that. Some 4d56 engines are efficient while some are not.

    I've started getting a problem on these cold mornings with my 2007 corolla verso 2.2 Diesel will start the first time without a problem and idle normally. After about one minute or so warning light will show up on the dash than fter another 30 seconds the engine cuts out. When the engine dies, I can restart again without a problem and the whole scenario starts over this happen until the engine warms up. once the temperature reaches 60 and the blue light goes off the car works fine the rest of the day. I cleaned the EGR, polished the glow plugs and tested them, put a new fuel filter, tried a working SCV from my mate's car, and did a full tank with fuel treatments. None of the above-mentioned worked however the car performance is much better. I tried to warm up the fuel rail line with a hot cloth soaked in hot water and will top it with hot water every now and then and the car did not cut off but won't drive as normal unless the engine itself is warmed up. Once it is warmed up it runs fine. Any idea what else could it be? Thank you

    1. I would start by checking fuel lines from the lift pump to the fuel pump to the common rail towards each injector, run your hands through them check for leaks crack hoses, loose connections 2. Check to see if the lift pump is working, you said you tried your friends scv maybe you would want to try the lift pump as well. This are the very first things i would do and would cost none. 3. Since you mentioned that it works well after the engine warms up, best guess is i would put the blame on faulty injectors. But try 1 and 2 first, all too often it is the simplest solotuion that will fix it. Then try option 3.
