Thanks for the video Ive had the pin stuck in bike chain thinking I did something wrong its been real irritating until seeing your video to know to look at the situation with a caliper. And yes I will be talking with harbor freight cause the label does say “bike chain” what good lesson to learn.

Nice demo can you get an 1/8in die for this equipment or is this chain breaker more fixed to a few die sizes?

Thanks , I'm replacing the chain on my YZF and although I plan to cut the old chain off with a grinder and the new chain has a clip type O-ring master link which I've ordered a press for . I will still need to take a few links out of the new chain and don't need to spend a lot of money on a riveting tool .

Catus, that was as close to a perfect evaluation as possible. I just bought one today and was impressed with its apparent quality. I also thought they may have intended to include two different punch sizes. I'm thinking of reducing the diameter of the spare punch to about 1/8 inch. It would only be done at the tip, perhaps about 1/16 or so. In that way, the punch would still fit the guide without being sloppy. Thanks much.

The best chain tool ever! My 520 525 530chain was replaced with this tool. Cut chain off with grinder. To remove pin grind flush then press out. This tool flares rivet links amazing. Most people don't know how to use a chain tool properly.

For the price it is pretty nice, but there are some really nice chain tools but they are expensive.

I agree .. I bought a motion pro chain breaker and riveting too kit and it’s mad with like pop metal material and broke on me .. it’s junk

This comment is a while ago, but did you use the normal tip to flare the river links ?

Can you buy replacement pins for it?

Do I install the pin with this tool as well?

Will this work on a chainsaw chain?

I bought one today, there was no spring to help retract the punch. I had problems with it slipping off the pin on the chain. I found it difficult to use and would not recommend it to anyone.

I just bent my chain breaker, the whole body actually bent out of ashape. I carefully oiled all the threads, but no matter how I tried this didnt work. Im taking it back. Just bad luck I guess.

Would I be able to use this for my 420 coleman chain

I have a Motion Pro (Taiwan) that's served me well. Comes in a plastic case with multiple dies and anvils. This looks decent enough that I will pick one up to keep with me on my 4 wheeler. as I have needed them out on rides before. What's the damage on this?? Don't recall you saying the price. @@CatusMaximus Yeah, which is about twice what it used to be. At least it frequently goes on sale and you can add a 20-25% coupon. I also have the Motion Pro set but it’s rebranded by several companies and it a bit more delicate when it comes to chain breaking. Rather than grinding the tip of the pin off as they instruct you to do, I just use my Harbor Freight tool for breaking and the Motion Pro for riveting. If I break the HF tool, so be it. For that price, I bought spares. Breaking a HF part of is still better than buying a power tool to grind the pin since I might as well just grind the whole chain off in that case.

Just bought this tool to take some links out if my new gytr 520 chain. I must say it was a very satisfying feeling using this tool, A+ for harbor freight from me.

Is there a way that this chain breaker can also be used as a chain link rivet flaring tool as well, I'm thinking of getting one as I need to replace the chain on my motorbike and I don't like the idea of using a connecting link.

It was like this even back in 2009 when these were $7.50: No bicycle pin.

Motorized bicycles - all 2-stroke, most 4-stroke, and even some electric (it's optional) use 415 chain. Very common. As you know, technical information typically falls short of being an exact science.

I found out the hard way that this thing doesn’t work for bicycle chains even though it says it does. I spent like an hour trying to get my chain off of the thing with pliers because it was stuck on the pin. Now I gotta probably buy a new chain and new chain breaker. Very misleading

It looks nicely enough made. Maybe in China bicycles use larger chains(?).

Can't you just sand one down to a small enough diameter?

Indeed I am just going to keep it as a spare pin because they get beat up I have other tools to use for actual bicycle chains that are actually light enough to conceivably carry around with you on a bicycle.

You can buy a ton of tools at HF if you worked at McDonald's. Just look for deals..
