Seems that this falls squarely in the "Better than absolutely nothing" category.

The proper way to use the cable saw is to string it on a stick like a bow. It shouldn’t break nearly as fast but who knows with a cheap one

For those ferro rod strikers, one of the edges has a lip on it and that's what you scrape the rod with. I found out recently that the ridged curve on the front of the striker is for helping to remove the ridges from your rod after they form from use.

It ain't bad all things considered. In this context "better than nothing" doesn't apply so easily when something you desperately need might fail you in use leaving you even worse off than before and possibly injured too. When your butt might be depending on it only non-failing things should be considered; they needn't be the best but they can't be too far below that standard. This reviewer clearly doesn't much understand how to use a lot of this stuff nor does he point out the items missing which many consider crucial to woodland survival like even just a plastic bag to carry water in as you travel. But at least he's smart enough to realize how useless sporks are when many more experienced folks don't. Build your own kit following the "10 C's" rules along with anything else your situation might specifically need which generally isn't there. Use and abuse your choices to know they won't fail you before putting them away. And remember that in any survival situation the most important tool you'll ever have is the gray mass between your ears, and that you must never keep it stored in your rectum.

The bracket also has a Ferro rod. It’s small but you can pull off that little scraper and crape the other side. It’s small but it works.

Until your cellphone doesnt work, yes a cellphone. But if you fly off a bridge making that call before u hit the water will be tough. That knife has a glass breaker that will be more useful than a phone in that scenario.

Probably just a weekend fisherman. I don’t know, but he sure as hell doesn’t know how to operate a Ferro rod.

@@frankswaim People in general don't realize the time to learn is at home on a pleasant day. Not when the weather is bad, you're cold lost and freezing and in the dark. They also don't realize just watching KZread videos won't make them the Steven Segal (God forgive me) of the survival culture. I teach survival and have an S&R background. Those are the ones we risked our lives to find. A large number of them hypothermic and resigned to dying. Here's a question for everyone: why do all those kits have a tactical pen? In case a bear decides they're an easy meal?

Looks like $12 worth of Chinese junk sold for $24. That's all you can put over a piece of wood and make a little saw it's a lot better and doesn't break as easy make it look like a bow. But it's pretty chintzy most of that stuff you can get off temu for a dollar or two. The bracelet has a tiny feral rod on it to start a fire with and a whistle. The metal piece comes off as a striker. The knife is a glass breaker and a seatbelt cutter as well. The fire Bellow is the thing that looks like a radio antenna. It periscopes out and you blow through it into a fire to get the fire going good. The feral ride you have to scrape the coating off before it shoots Sparks and you're better off using the back side of the knife because those Strikers suck. I don't think those tactical pens break windshields, they break the side windows if you're lucky. I don't think the saw on the multi tool works as I saw I think it works more like notching. I don't like survival cards they suck and you never use them. That water bottle carrier also works on old canteens or at least some of them if they don't have a carry strap. But it really sucks. This is why I never buy premade survival kits. For one thing if you didn't put it together you might not know how the stuffing it works. You might not even like to use that stuff it's always better to make your own and have some kind of experience with all of the items inside of it. I believe GK 23 is some kind of carbon steel supposedly surgical steel type however I find this highly unlikely

They don't take language input from outsiders very well if they think they're doing OK without it. I once did reviews and product testing for a Chinese company's devices and had became one of maybe 4 of their early product testers who received their products months before their launch. They even had me tied in with their designers to help them select which versions and features to proceed with on their new devices. More than once I'd pointed out potential problems they hadn't considered and they gratefully made changes to eliminate those. We had a very cozy relationship. After years of working with them they asked me if I'd review the English language instruction manual for better customer understanding and ease of use purposes. They actually did pretty good so I had maybe 4 main suggestions and a few small spelling corrections to give, and I explained each of my proposed changes carefully but concisely. I got a 'thank you' message back and that was the end of it. Go figure; I can't. It's just how the Chinese are I guess.

There is no doubt the kit is cheap quality but I question why you even bought it. You bag on the purpose of nearly every tool. From your demo of the Ferro rod, you don't seam to know that Ferro rods have a coating that needs scraped off before you get good spark. A little research before doing your review would have helped. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just saying it's hard to take a review seriously when the reviewer doesn't understand the product

Your right I was hard on what we all know is a cheap kit…Is it better than nothing no doubt….But with this being a cheap kit it’s not going to be in the hands of a person that did there homework on a ferro rod. I figured it out at the end,,As I’m sure most who watched the video could figure it out…Most of us figured it out together. It was an interesting kit but definitely makes me want to build a better one. I hope you will be around when I finally do. I will be we educated on all the products that make up that kit,,,I also appreciate your feedback as I’m new to this and still learning at my age……thanks
