I have this multimeter since 2017 and just used it a single day back in 2017 and then left it in the garage. In 1/01/2023, took it out and the Duracell battery is still good but some digits won't display completely on the LCD screen. The problem is that the screen connectors gets loose the more you rotate that screen. I removed the back to fix the screen and did a big mess on where each part goes. 1st advice on fixing this multimeter screen is: beware of 2 hidden screws, one longer screw under the speaker and another one under two green resistors. don't remove the 2nd longer screws near the one under speaker(between the ON and HOLD buttons) because if you do, you'll struggle to put it back and currently no video shows how to do it. 2ndly, take pictures of the wiring before removing the internal screws. Finally, if you messed up(without breaking anything) before reading this, you can still fix it by playing with the screen plastic film connector on both sides while testing the screen with battery plugged until you see digits on the screen. Then you know that you found the correct assembly positions. The tighter the screen film is, the clearer the digits will appear(but their position should be correct before tightening and stop when all digits are visible). It took me a whole day to solve it, so I hope to help someone else.

I've had this meter for a couple of years now.👍👍 No complaints about it thus far, and like you, I just use it for basic automotive and household purposes. Thanks for the overview, I never did do one.

One of the best things about this meter is it actually has an on/off switch, that is separate from the rotary-switch...........this saves a LOT of wear and tear on the meter.

@@crabapple6775 It does have auto-shutdown. What it also has is a push-button switch to manually shut it on/off....as opposed to turning it off with the rotary-switch, which would cause wear and tear on the rotary-switch just to turn your meter on/off.

I’ve had this meter for about 20 years. Still works like new. Full disclosure, I only use it a few times a year. But the fact that it’s just thrown into a miscellaneous tool bag speaks volumes for this guy. However, I’m also willing to bet that one purchased today, wouldn’t handle the abuse this one’s been through. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I just got the 61593 and it looks identical to the one in this video. I never paid attention to the #s it shows at startup, but after you showing it, I checked mine and it shows 16.66. Means nothing to me, I'm not a religious person. The PNP/NPN refers to types of transistors and the Cx is where you check capacitors. So far I like my new meter.

  • @j.lietka9406

Think the hFE npn / pnp is for testing certain transistors. The Cx I believe is for testing certain capacitors. Found the same multimeter (tossed out!) in an E-waste dumpster to-day! Haven't tested it yet!

I'm new to electronics, and I wanted to get something to test capacitors. Unfortunately, the upper range is wildly inadequate. I wish I had known that. The continuity buzzer is intermitent. But the freq counter words fine, and the basic functions are fine. There was an autoranging Centech at harbor freight for another $20. I really wish I had gone with that instead.

I've had two of the meters. One ate batteries with very infrequent use. It later would intermittently start with the on/off switch. It was too frustrating to continue using it so I junked it. The quality is often off with HF stuff but sometimes on so I bought a second one. It also developed on/off problems after out of warrentee with very infrequent use so also trashed.

When you are good, you can troubleshoot down to component level with this meter. PNP = Positive, Negative, Positive of a PNP transistor NPN = Negative, Positive, Negative of a NPN transistor E = Emitter B = Base C = Collector ATG says, "A meter is only good if you know how to use it." Most DIY and mechanics are lost when it comes to electronic troubleshooting. Even dealership master mechanics are lost that they only replace circuit boards. Lucky I and my daughter were taught by ATG. And when clients see us they are surprised. We don't need Fluke but this will do most of our jobs, we just don't like to break our nails. And get our hairs dirty. My daughter is 8 and she can troubleshoot with the best. She has no problem, also, in removing those wheel lug nuts from F40 and crankshaft bolt on a Civic with a ATG Gold IR W7150 Impact Wrench. Today, people are very rude and hot tempers always saying bad thing about products made in China. But it reality many fine products are Made-In-China. I have never see anything made in Africa, Austria, Norway or Russia.

I found my way to your video as I just happened to kill some time at a Harbor Freight and saw this exact Multimeter. This was like $20 if I used the coupon I had. I probably would have bought it if I didn't just buy a used Greenlee multimeter that is very similar...but Greenlee...and back when they made them as good as Fluke. I happen to have also the latter, which is accurate and impossible to kill. I do do circuit board level repairs such as graphics cards so I need accuracy. I was hoping to find an in-depth review so I know if I should buy one as a spare. Still not sure...

Re: 666 Dude, it's a Chinese Meter. In China, 6 is considered a lucky number. The word for "six" sounds like (liú), which means "flow". Flow is a good thing in meters. Additionally, multiples of six are even more lucky, and seen frequently. Originally, I'd bet that this was a P3 family, Model 666, Rev 2. The 666 was a no-no in western markets, so... add 111 to the 666 and you get P37772 - but you can still see the original model on power up.

I wrote below a while ago that I had a few of these meters. The last one was at a vacation home in Maine and rarely used. It gave up also. It reads random values for ohms when the leads are touching. I won't read DC voltage anymore. They are a great meter for a short time. All 3 I've had crapped out. Of the three 2 were replacements under warranty. All together I have 5 units all all crapped out within a year with either very very limited use or no use at all other than testing out of the package (2). HF has some decent stuff but these meters I'll rate as junk.
