Harbor Freight 4x36 Belt Sander Review || Best Benchtop Belt Sander (Part 2)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A review, test, and comparison of the Harbor Freight 4x36 belt sander. This is PART 2 of the "Best Benchtop Belt Sander" video where I compare all 3 of the leading makes of 4x36 belt/disc combo sanders. If you missed Part 1 where I primarily discussed the Bucktool 4x36 belt sander with 8 inch disc, you should really go check that out as I think it is one of the absolute best 4x36 benchtop belt/disc combo sanders I have ever used. I will be sure to link the Bucktool 4x36 belt /disc combo sander below and at the end of this video. But if you're on a strict budget theres nothing wrong with considering this cheaper Harbor Freight Tools 4x36 belt, 6 inch disc combo sander. The biggest draw to it is it is cheap and it is very compact. The compact size of the Harbor Freight 4x36 belt/disc sander is a great feature if you are in a small shop and plan on storing this belt disc combo sander under a bench or any other place around your shop when you are not using it. The next step up would be looking at the Ryobi, Wen, Rikon, Grizzly, etc 4x36 benchtop belt sander. These sanders are all basically the same and almost assuredly are built in the same factory. This type of sander combines the compact foot print you get with the Harbor Freight benchtop belt sander but adds a stronger motor with higher RPM thus allowing the belt to travel at greater speed. Hopefully this video helps you in making your buying decision a little more clear and you find the Best 4x36 Benchtop Belt Sander that fits your needs the absolute best.

So far I don’t have any complaints on the Bucktool model after buying it from watching your 1st video. I think the dust collection is excellent like you said (some of those Amazon reviews said it sucked....maybe they were comparing it to a $700+ machine or something). Full disclosure, I have only had it for a week.

Who knows what they were using, an actual dust collector or maybe a small shop vac. How long was the line, etc... alot of factors can come in but people usually dont give those details. Thats why I briefly went over my set up in that first video too. People are also quick to blame the tool before trying to see if anything different can be done to improve their results. This is a big part in why I dont usually look at other reviews before giving mine.

Really glad I found this vid! Looking to buy a good disc sander and I was intrigued by the direct drive connection to the belt and disc of the BuckTool sander. Its quite a bit pricier than the "others" so wondering if its worth it? Just wondering how's your impression now (pros and cons) that you've had this for a couple of years. ;) Still recommend it after having it "long term"?

Still love it... just used it a ton to make some spoons/spatulas. Only con i have is it is a big footprint in my micro shop. But i still love it. Check out the upgraded pro model. Hook n loop on the disc and i believe faster belt changes since table mounts are on the other side. I havent used it, just what ive heard

I have a craftsman similar to the skill. Its 4.3 amp too, i think. I wanted to replace it for more power, but the buck is only 5a. Im not convinced its a real 1hp, the one you have is 3/4hp, both are 5a. Seems kinda sketch, like they reduced the duty cycle of the motor to up from 3/4 to 1. Maybe ill save for a harbor freight 6x48 with a 12a motor. Thank you so much for your compassion.

@@BradsWorkbench yeah just got it. Had to give the belt more tension and seems like it’s working ok. Sharpened a chisel and will see about sanding some wood. I wish they made jigs for that size of belt.

I appreciate your review here but wish you had just made it all one video, because I had to click your user name and search for part 2. I would have gladly watched the entire video in one sitting...besides there is such a thing as pause or bookmarking it. :-) But thanks again, cause I am in the market for one of these. Leave out the lude jokes next time. P.S. So many people complaining about the HF model stalling. Well, if they were to ship the belt driven sander set at full tension, and it's sitting in a warehouse, then the store for a while before someone buys it, the belt would be worn out from all that tension all that time. Common sense, people. That is actually a very positive inconvenience to have to set the tension when you are setting it up. As for the dust collection and tracking...I dunno.

Any sander can do the job, if you know how to use sanders, you can spend a fortune for some glorified sander that will not make you a pro sander. It takes skill and patience, if it can move sand paper it can sand.

@@BradsWorkbench All you have to do is try to change a belt to realize what you are dealing with! It takes a lot of time and you deal w/ really low quality screws that are placed where you can't get to them or can't see them.
