As a pastry cook, I'm actually livid lol. Leave it to an unwashed beanie man to generalize chocolate, saying it's "designed" to be addictive, when it originated in Mesoamerica and sugar was only added when it was brought to Europe. There are so many ways to make chocolate. I worked at a place that makes stoneground chocolate, actually forms relationships with the farmers in South America and grinds the beans in house. They also make drinking chocolate similar to how it was traditionally made with a molinillo. Chocolate can be as healthy or "unhealthy" as you want it to be. Support your local chocolatiers or eat some Hershey's occasionally. But what we're not gonna do is demonize a food that takes so many forms and has thousands of years of history.

This was my first thought too as someone formerly with an ED - I actually stopped watching the video pretty early on because of it. It also makes me wonder about him being shirtless in all the videos…yes it can just be an obnoxious “tough guy” thing but I wonder if it could also be body checking. I’d assume he gets hate comments shaming his body because he’s shirtless and the internet is the way it is, especially when he is criticizing the “health” of others. I’m glad people are calling him out on it. I don’t think it will probably change his behavior, because I think if he feels attacked by any criticisms he will just double down. But I do hope talking about this can prevent others from going down that path. To OP and others sharing experiences w EDs I wish you so much happiness and peace at whatever stage in your life and recovery. You aren’t alone.

I've been steadily losing weight over quite some time after a car accident and I did weightlifting before said accident so I used to have a habit of eating lots of dirty carbs and slamming back basically any food item I saw that was calorically dense along with a lot of proteins to rebuild muscle fibers. This became news to me when my body eventually informed my brain that I could no longer eat two pizzas a day and be fine. Moderation over time is what stopped me from binge eating to be entirely honest. I went from guzzling 4 liters of soda a day to 2, then to 4 a week and now I only drink soda socially. For carbs? I tried going keto. Bro, fuck that. No way I could just jump onto that without risking binging like a madman. So what was the solution? Cut dirty carbs and simple sugars. Going form white bread to 0 sugar added whole grain? Good start. Subbing white rice for brown/wild rice? a good touch. When I get hungry, I will also just grab some green veg and chow down. I still got the appetite of a weightlifter but I can tell you, even with the intense cravings I have sometimes, I keep that shit regular. Want some chocolate? I just do homemade hot cocoa with a little sugar and a banana. Having someone talk down to me telling me I'm doing a million things wrong is what caused me to have to take it so slow since I would hop onto doctor suggested diets and just crash. Losing weight and doing physical therapy have been hard, but rewarding and people should be taught that it's a journey, not a destination.

The human body REQUIRES food, and you CAN get at least basic survival nutrition out of even the most unhealthy choices. i understand that different people have different diet struggles, but for people who struggle with ED’s these kind of health “””facts”””” just encourage you to not fuel the body at all, because he’s essentially suggesting that there’s bad consequences to literally anything you eat.

Even if it's entirely a joke, I'm under the belief that this type of content is extremely harmful to people with EDs or to people prone to them. It's not even funny, it's just horribly obnoxious, and it hurts people.

It's actually pretty indicative of one called Orthorexia, witch is basically obsessive and restrictive eating based on what's "healthy". It's just extremely concerning because even if it's a joke they say it so much it's gonna become less and less of a joke

One thing I need to remember while struggling with my ED that "unhealthy" food in moderation is a lot healthier than not eating at all

Bless, you are absolutely correct, and I hope you’re doing well. All that really matters is that you feed your body, especially in a time of mental or physical crisis, and you should never feel bad about what you feed it with. Less processed foods are obviously ideal, but food is food, it can /only/ help you when your body needs nutrients.

This!!! “Healthy” isn’t a one size fits all. Relearning it’s okay it eat pasta and all other foods is hard!!! Learning how to moderate and not feel guilty for eating with an ED s hard!!! This guy certainly survives off of suffering and i’m just happy i never saw him when I was struggling, but he could be hurting people and he wouldn’t know, or probably wouldn’t care

This man has an ED. If a woman on the Internet was doing this, it would be clear to all of us that they have a disordered relationship to food. But because this is a man with gym bro muscles, it hasn't come up that someone who is this triggered by cake has a huge ED problem. Sooooo many gym bros have eating disorders that they hide around health, restricting themselves to the point of depression then using misogyny to deflect their insecurity. Think about how much of "body checking" happens among gym bros, its all very toxic and depressing.

THIS! I'm no gym guy but I'm a male with an eating disorder and no one takes it seriously. Admittedly mine isn't related to purging, body image, or weight, and on a surface level I look mostly healthy (as a result it took me months after diagnosis to actually admit I had a real problem) but it's at the point where I'm so limited and malnourished I'm legitimately worried I'm going to die within the next few years if not sooner (since it keeps just getting worse), and I'm extremely depressed with how little I can eat. My best friend cares, she's great, but everyone else thinks I'm just picky because it's inconceivable that a man has a real mental health problem.
