↓ LYRICS ↓
Son, I'm 30
I only went with your mother 'cause she's dirty
And I don't have a decent bone in me
What you get is just what you see, yeah
I see it so, I take it greedy
And all the bad piss ugly things I feed me
I never help or give to the needy
Come on and see me
Yippee-ippee-ay-ay-ay-yey-yey
I had to crucify some brother today
And I don't dig what you gotta say
So come on and say it
Come on and tell me twice
I said, "Dad, you're a shabby
You run around and groove like a baggy
You're only here just out of habit
Oh, it's mine, you might as well have it
You take ten feet back and then stab it
Spray it on and tag it"
So sack on me
I can't stand the needy
Get around here when you're put off your feeding
Yippee-ippee-ay-ay-ay-yey-yey
I had to crucify somebody today
And I don't dig what you gotta say
So come on and say it
Come on and tell me twice
So sack all the needy
I can't stand to leave it
You come around here, and you puff up your feeding
Yippee-ippee-ay-ay-ay-yey-yey
I had to crucify somebody today
And I don't dig what you gotta say
So go on and say it
Yippee-ippee-ay-ay-ay-yey-yey
I had to crucify some brother today
And I don't hear what you gotta say
So come on and say it
And come on and tell me twice

exactly. bez was a key factor to the success of the mondays. the stone roses did the same by having cressa dance behind the amps and nirvana had some guy named tony dance for them onstage whenever they played britain. that made nirvana a big deal in the u.k.

An epic song and an amazing moment in time, so glad I was there in Manchester and rubbed shoulders with them at the Hacienda. Later in 96-98 , I met Shaun and Paul on a number of occasion when they came to visit Astrella Leitch on Palatine Road, we lived upstairs in the flat above hers. The music is timeless and still brilliant.

never fails to surprise me the negative things people have to contribute rather than stay silent when they've nothing sensible or relative to say... This is not only a true classic for MUSICAL and Video achievement, but a symbol if friendship and solidarity amongst ypung mucisians.. England this is something to be truly proud of for home grown talent for all involved in this video and song and a celebration for what people can do when they join. all time classic
I left school in 89 and got and apprenticeship.. with mybwages bought a Song BIG Stereo it had an alarm where it would turn on and play the CD that was inside it. This great early 90's music gives me mixed feelings ... enjoying the music so much, but the nostalgia for those great old days makes me kinda sad and missing that time sooo much!! Can't even tell...😥
Still one of the best albums l have ever heard in my entire life PT&B and l am 68, God bless you Paul you wil be remembered 😞
I was blessed to have been in my teens with this era which I'm proud and grateful of. I think in was in 2001 went to see OASIS at Murray field rugby stadium. Everybody was pumped up in a good way and word was The Doves were coming on 1st...The place erupted when here were The full Happy Mondays on the stage belting out this song. Afterwards Bez was walking/dancing around with the crowd, decent guy doing that. It was such a fantastic surprise and made that concert 1 of the best I've been to.
This song still has one of the best bass hooks ever!
I love Bez and his dance moves! As a kid(5 years old 1990) I use to mimic his expressions and copy the moves. Safe to say, I horrified the grown ups hehe!

Saw the Happy Monday at the Reading Festival in 1998. Was not a fan and went with my gf who was a huge fan. Mother of God, it was like a religious experience. The tent was absolutely packed and jumping. Best band I saw that weekend by miles, so impressive. Bez was such a huge part of the experience. People were diving under the tent to see them all the way through, until the security stopped it.

Actually a very, very, melancholic song. The Happy Mondays, like The Farm, were poets really. Kinky Afro was kind of the North Western 'The Doors' for the 90s. I get emotional thinking about the 90s. It truly WAS a superb reimagining of the 1960s in to a more urban template.
