Fun fact: Birds can't actually pee, the reason their poop is white is because it's actually a combined form of the two types of waste mammals usually release. Which means in actuality, the old mentor penguin in Surf's Up was just shitting on the main character to relieve his jellyfish sting. And that whole concept is just a myth anyway, you're more likely to aggravate the leftover stingers when you do that.

Also birds aside a few exceptions like ducks do not have a penis or vagina. They streamlined their orifices to one for both reproduction and waste disposal called a cloaca. When birds mate, the two cloacas would come together and press on each other which is called called cloaca kissing. So those sexual tensions from the movies would lead to the characters touching their cloacas together instead of traditional sexual intercourse that mammals do.

It wasn't a jellyfish though, it was a sea urchin sting. Though I'm still not sure if peeing on that would help it any more than it would a jellyfish sting. Probably not.

Fun fact: Rio was originally supposed to be about penguins, but once after Happy Feet and Surf Up came out, they quickly changed the focus from penguins to macaws.

Interestingly Rio might also be why Pixar cancelled one of their planned early 2010s films. They planned a movie called "Newt" which had a similar premise, except the main animals were to be endangered newts. Supposedly when Pixar heard that Rio was gonna have a similar plot and be released well before Newt's production would wrap up they decided to scrap the entire movie and focus all efforts on releasing Brave for 2012.

Oh wow I actually remember that. 12 or 13 year old me (forget which year it was) laughed so hard at that. I also recall that same award show having a part where "Yoda" himself accepted the award for the battle against Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones and he had a line where he said "and long live your queen.... Latifah" and it then cuts to Queen Latifah being surprised Yoda said her name.

The Brazilian dub of Surf's Up is honestly one of the best dubs of all time. It not only adapted the source material well, but also used real surfer's slang in the dialogue. It's all thanks to the dub's director, who used to hang out with surfers on his day and consulted A LOT of professional Brazilan surfers just to see if the dialogue sounds natural.

Fun fact. Wild penguins get freaky in mating. A Victorian observer was so astonished and horrified. As a gentleman he would not want to share it but for knowledge purposes he didn't want to not have it written. He ended up encrypted his findings for people who truly wanted to know. He was originally going to lose all his baby feathers by the end of the movie, but the had it so he only lost the bottom half so he could stand out

In Happy Feet there was originally going to be a subplot involving actual aliens from outer space, where they were taking resources from earth like how the humans were taking fish from the penguins. The movie in general was also supposed to be darker and more mature with the characters cursing. They scrapped this during the last year of production. It’s also why the very beginning of the movie and the end credits are placed over outer space

Surfs Up is my favorite surfing penguin mockumentary of all time.

Wow, he didn't even bring up the scene in Happy Feet where the central character hallucinates visions of his friends starving and starts throwing fish at the wall as his psyche shatters. That fucked me up as a kid. To this day I consider Happy Feet the most depressing movie I've ever watched.

I know right, when he gets captured and lives in a zoo is so depressing - I was surprised he didn't mention it. Not just because of what happens, but because the main character basically gives up and gets depressed himself.

Giving me serious PTSD with Jellyfish Fields and then Sonic Adventure back to back....

I visited my mother s friends house and she put in surfs up to keep me and my siblings distracted, after the movie ended it went back to the menu and if you wait there the charecters start calling out to see if your still there. We had kicked the remote under the TV stand without realizing it and it just keeps looping for about 2 hours. Thoes penguins still mock me to this day.

I know you won’t see this, but I really hope you have a great Christmas. Also I have never understood Happy Feet, it really feels like it came from a different universe

Man, that Steve Irwin scene got me emotional. He was a big inspiration for me while I was growing up, so reading that quote got me right in the heart.

I honestly love the mockumentary style of Surf's Up. Especially when it gets real for the camera crew like the moment they find Chicken Joe kidnapped by the tribal penguins and they suddenly spot the camera crew and attack.

The 90’s were about ducks, the 2000’s were about penguins.

Does anyone know where I can watch Rango? Because when I was a little kid I want to see that movie, but my mom wouldn't let me because it had some cuss words in it. So she suggested that we go watch Mars Needs Mom instead which I obviously decline. And it sucks because I've heard that Ringo was a good movie, and I did get to experience it when it was in theaters. (╯_╰) Edit: On January 29, 2021 I finally watched Rango

@fockingreat, which ironically Rango will be turning 10 within a few months. I remembered seeing it at the Regal Cinema in Marysville when this had already came out. This was one out of the six movies I saw in the theater in 2011 while the others were Gnomeo & Juliet, Hop, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Super 8.

Over The Hedge is extremely underrated and needs more love too. I just rewatched the film today, and it is just as good as I remembered. I'm def going to watch Surf's Up next to keep the nostalgia train moving.

the REAL politics I've been waiting for this year

I prefer Surf's up more than Happy Feet I like the concept of penguins surfing and I feel that it could had seriously work as a cartoon series think the penguin version of Stoked (you know that surfing cartoon that was on awhile back). Like I had two ideas for episodes, the first was where Cody's mom and Zeke start to date and Cody doesn't know how to take it. While other idea is that Cody's brother tries to impress some girl and force Cody and Chicken Joe to teach him. I just feel like this had potential in my opinion.

The movie 9 Also did the acting style of voice acting! The VA's would act out the scenes like a play to make it feel authentic. Its on the Bonus Features of most releases of it!

That movie and the show were such a pleasant surprise, it's like the only time a comedic relief got their own spinoff that was not only not bad, but was genuinely good to the point it was better than the main series. Smile and wave boys, smile and wave.

On the dvd of happy feet they had that dancing owl cartoon (i used to watch tf outta that every damn day)

The Steve Irwin bit crushed me. I still miss him, man...

Surfs Up owns actually, it’s so underrated

Reminds me of my school counselor who feared penguins would take over the world.

I absolutely adore surfs up, it just makes you feel happy. Happy feet always has just given me weird vibes idk, kinda like a fever dream.

to be fair about the rob machado penguin hair, that was pretty close to the hair he had when the film was in production; look up how he looked in 2006.

I think where the "dissatisfaction" comes from in both Cars and Surf's Up (and allow me to disclaim that I'm biased because I love both movies) is that the "sports" aspect of the movie is really only meant to be the initial hook, while both the mentor-student bonding and subsequent "philosophies" about the respective sport and environment (the Arizona desert/the ocean) is meant to be the real meat of the story and where both films' strong points lie. I'm really not invested in either racing or surfing, they're just not my sports, so the ultimate lack of either in these films never actually even struck me, much less did they dampen the experience for me. Also. I have never seen Happy Feet 2, but I can hands-down guarantee you that it's better than Surf's Up 2. Not even heavy drinking made that film bearable.

I remember having the Surf’s Up game on PSP when I was very young and even though it was obvious shovelware, I absolutely adored playing it and it genuinely was a pretty fun racing game! It was mind blowing to me to see that they had a hidden character that was the deer from Open Season, their board was also the candy bar from the film!

Well, as an Australian, you've made me tear up at the mention of Mister Steve Irwin. God rest his sweet, loving soul.

i remember one particular mcdonalds in my town would still give either surfs up or bee movie toys in happy meals years after those respective movies came out, i'd assume they just had a bunch left over in stock and i guess they usually only gave them when they ran out of the current toys they were selling at that time.

Animal logic would later be the animation studio that worked on the LEGO movie franchise, including the LEGO Batman movie and The LEGO ninjago movie!

Man Surfs up was the reason why I got into Green Day with Holiday which is my favorite song from them
