Hi Ricky, remember that money doesn't buy happiness. I retired at 62 rather than waiting until the full retirement age of 68. All of my coworkers said that i was crazy and that I should wait because I would get more money. My response was that I would rather have more time to enjoy my life than lose 6 years of life just to get a bit more money. I am able to live here below my pension and travel to neighboring countries a couple of times a year. I go back to the US once a year to visit family, but overall, I do not miss living there. I can live a much better life here for much less.

Couldn't have said it better. When I'm in Europe, I find myself just going online buying unnecessary shit and spending money that I don't have to. When I'm back in my village in India, I don't wear any makeup. I dress very simple and life is good. The food is good. Weather is amazing. I don't feel the urge to shop and buy the latest fashions or gadget. We can do with so little and we don't need all these extra things we get so distracted by.

It may be cheap but that doesn’t mean you are a cheap Charlie. I think the beauty of your channel (besides the twins progress and interaction) is that you demonstrate how easy it is to live in Thailand and the options available to people thinking of doing a similar move. Just because you have money it doesn’t mean you have to throw it around and waste it. For most people it took a lifetime to get in a secure financial position so why waste it. If I can buy a perfectly good stir fried chilli pork and basil for 40 baht like you, why would I want to pay over the top prices elsewhere for practically the same thing not to be cheap. You are having a great experience and while I am currently living in Bangkok, I’m looking forward to the Issan experience and you are showing me how easy that is. Thank you 🙏

I wouldn’t judge anyone who lives live in any way that makes them happy. People are different, not everyone likes luxury cars luxury holidays etc. you shouldn’t need to explain yourself to anyone, it’s the life you love living and that’s the most important thing.

My cheap meals in Thailand is cook myself. I ate out the first time out tonight and about to pay the 120 baht for 2 dishes but they don't take cash. Supposed to scan and pay. Luckily they took my cash and went elsewhere to get my change. If you want a steak I would suggest buying pork thick steaks.

Now i live by the water and own my home and i don't have much cash flow but I'm happy here, being right here. My partner and family have all passed away, but this location means a lot to me. Even if i am just getting by. I love it here and i refuse to ever work my a$$ off again. That kind of life doesn't make me happy. Those people just don't know what they're missing.

Money does not equal happiness and its a relative term. I worked a job I hated for 35+ years in California and made good money but my life was miserable. After paying all my bills having hardly nothing left over. Now being retired in Thailand, I make 75% less than when I was working but I have half of it left over after paying everything, and I am relatively happy and I don't have to work. People who spend money foolishly in the end have nothing (but debt) I think it's great you are living the life you enjoy while still being young.

It's refreshing to hear someone not caught up in the lifestyle that the media has conveyed that we "need" to be happy. It's sad that our younger population (not all) has the perception that happiness is based on $$. My husband and I also live debt free. We also don't live in a huge house and drive luxury cars, but we're okay with that. I drive a 2019 car, that we bought in 2021, with cash. No car payments. We don't want the stress of that kind of lifestyle. Your girls are going to do well as you show them love, and what true happiness is.

Honestly just do what makes you happy. Put that money away for that dream holiday every few years or spend sensibly everyday to ensure you and your family’s future. Blowing it all every time you get paid is both immature and irresponsible. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Most likely these people can’t imagine that simple day to day things can bring you happiness, it isn’t a competition to show off.

Especially after my parents divorce. I have been living on a small pension for ages because of a bad back surgery and some other surgeries. Whe ppl ask I always say Im rich, but not on money ! Im alive ! My daughter is alive after having 2 heart surgeries..Yes I live with pain daily BUT..I was around 24/7 when my kids grow up. Most importand things are free..not everything but most. Yes, I would not cry if I had a litte higher income, It would improve my life some..because Im a giver..I could help less fortune ppl more. I have like 1100 Euro per month...we live 2 ppl and a dog on that..we eat good food daily ! We dont live cheap, just economically. I save every month so I can help pay for my daughter and grandsons trips from Sweden to Spain. Buying stuff dont make me happy..if I dont need it, Great video ! Have a good week ahead 🥰

They go out of their way to help you. I would call it being economical & my kids thank me for teaching them to be this way. Sadly its too late for me to move, but Im hoping to come for at least a month each year, because then I can easily get through the rest of the winter which is 8 months. Since using CBD oil(without thc)I don’t get depression any longer. Ive told friends about it, but Im now classed as a druggy.😂Kidding its their loss. Your girls are so cute & you are doing just fine. The love & devotion you give to them is wonderful to see. Time goes so quickly my Grandchildren are teenagers now. Have a great week. ❤yr vlogs & seeing the twins progress. Take Care. 💕💕💕

How lucky are you? There you are living amongst the beautiful, genuine Thai people in the beautiful setting of Thailand. You have had more experiences now than most people will ever have in a lifetime. Enjoy your girls and have fun doing things with them while they are little, they grow up so quickly. Ignore the fake, garbage people (who are mostly selling stuff/marketing) online, portraying perfect lives. Basically, don’t compare and despair. Keep a journal and maybe one day you can publish it. Life will rush by, and you won’t remember what happened.

Hi Ricky. You are absolutely right, there will always be people who have negative opinions and who think it should be done one way or the other. The most important thing is that you feel good together with your surroundings. I have chosen a different path and there many will have opinions about what we have built in Thailand. There are many underlying factors at play that made us choose to buy the land we did and build the house we did. I think it will bring us joy but others might have chosen to do it differently. The main thing is that you yourself feel good about your choices, then others can think what they want. Best regards Mathias

Your wealth can not be bought.. it would seem to me.. beautiful twins...Thai family and your Aust family .. and the choice to be where you want. Your house is really big and nice.. you have a car and motorbike and bike.. and as you say the twins have everything they need. As a result .. even after life's inevitable set backs.. peace of mind... and your you tube channels to work online. You summed it up well. You are young.. and the world is your oyster....you are free and healthy... it is what you make of it.

about the pricing in thailand - I would say that pricing in the tourist areas have become as everywhere else in the world, it is no more cheap or expensive then travel to a place like spain or greece or thailand The diffrece that you really can see is when you travel to the countryside and everything becomes a thai standard and thai pricing - this has nothing to be about being a cheap charlie or not - it is more about what do you prefer and enjoy experice Ofcorse that it can be a nice and enjoyable time to stay in Phuket or Pattaya - but after a few days or a week you get bored and getting away from it and back to the genuine Thailand is a very nice feeling Please take care about youself and keep up with the good work!

Hey Ricky, great and interesting topic,👍i like to be a "cheap charleen" as well lol ! to live a free and comfortable lifestyle with low costs is the right of everyone, - what gives people the right to say a high class lifestyle is the goal to reach, if you don`t you will be unhappy ?? To feel happy in the heart❤to enjoy every moment with beloveds is what counts and is priceless ! 🙏

From experience Rick i can say that for long term resident you need to adhere to your budget and discard the 3 weeks a year tourist holiday budget mentality. The saying 'if your not working your spending really defines the discipline required when living in Thailand, more so when you have a couple of little tackers take care off as well as the extended family to a certain extent.Well done Rick......cheers Rob

I live in Europe . Thinking of returning back home to India to live a simpler more laidback life. Don't get me wrong. The quality of life here is amazing but I miss the little things like friendlier people, warmer weather and being near family and also having more time with each other. Here, we get the weekends off but rest of the week, we(my partner) are just getting by and see each other only after 6pm. I can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life. It's like we only live on the weekends. The rest of the week, we barely get time to be with each other. 😢

Last 3 years spent 3-5 weeks a year driving from one end of Thailand to the other NSEW. Budget was $40-$50 per night average for accommodation-sometimes with pool/breakfast/beach. Booked 8 nights in a small town for Songkran 2025. Bungalow with aircon across the road from the beach 2500Baht total. Then taking the train from there to River Kwai for the 110th ANZAC service for 500Baht. I don’t see the point of wasting money when all you need is a bed, bathroom & aircon as you are only sleeping there.

I’m here in a moo baan in Bangkok, half the people here it seems drive a Mercedes or a BMW, some have multiple cars worth more than the house they live in. People will do anything to give the facade that they’re doing well. Who am I to judge? If you’re happy then I’m happy for you. Live and let live.

The world is full of materialistic asses, looking to justify their live by putting down others. They want to tell you you need to work your ass off for 40 plus years. Get a nice home, car and big screen tv. Just to have a few years of retirement if they are lucky. Then die with nothing. You do what ever makes you happy Ricky. I am with you, you got to live in the moment, you never know what tomorrow holds. Money does not buy happiness.

The question is whether you can sustain living with less for 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years. You are still young and in prime years where your peers are building their careers and if you miss those years in your 20s and 30s of learning and career development you probably can’t get it back later.

Mate I don’t care if I’m a cheap Charlie, I hope to build a $30.000 house outside of Lopburi, I don’t need to build a McMansion to impress others. I work with others and they salary sacrifice some of their wages into their super for their retirement at 67, I’ll be happy to (semi) retire at 60, if not earlier and I’ll hope to have enough in my super to live out my life in Thailand. Every time I go to Thailand, I feel at home and the weight of the world is off of my shoulders and would rather live my life there with a simple life.
