Hanson sing Too Much Heaven a cappella at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall with no microphones

Музыка

5 March 2019, Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, String Theory Tour
Gig 4/4 last night of my String Theory tour and lord were we spoiled rotten with this unique treat from the guys.
Since the announcement of this milestone event for our little indie band we all hoped they would reenact their famous harmonic 1997 a cappella performance of ‘MMMBop’ under the natural acoustics of the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall architecture. I’d be surprised if they didn’t film exactly that for Members Only content later, but as the single only encore on this incredibly special world tour they instead performed my absolute favourite cover tribute they’ve ever done, ‘Too Much Heaven’ by the BeeGees.
I’ve always envied their microphone-free concert hall acoustics a cappella performances of other songs over time around the world on KZread so to get to hear this song at this venue on this epic symphonic tour with my own two ears in the most incredible seats I could have asked for, it’s no exaggeration to say that this is now my most treasured memory and possession. I just wish the video could do it justice.

I don't think being considered a boy band is a bad thing. There are lots of talented people in the music industry. However, many artists will tell you that talent comes second to branding/marketing. Lots of singers can play instruments, but it's just not part of their public image.

I'm not a hater, I don't like putting energy into what I don't like, I prefer to put energy into what I love. But yeah, I find the Jonas Brothers being compared to Hanson a bit awkward. There's simply no comparison except being brothers. Not that I don't have plenty of 'guilty pleasures' myself, I just cringe when comparisons are made when the there is a gaping void between the talent and credibility of the two bands. Much love to the Jonas Brothers, but they should feel very flattered to be put anywhere near Hanson.

@@ReeseGegax Don't remember ever saying pop is a dirty word. The majority of my favourite music is pop music, including Hanson. So this is a totally moot point. The Jonas Brothers lack Hanson's talent and that's a fact. No person with basic musical knowledge would disagree. But like I said above, I'm not interested in hating on things and I certainly never claimed pop music is automatically poorer because of its genre. My music library says quite the contrary, not to mention not all the music I love would be classified as 'high talent.'

Vocally Hanson are extremely underrated but I think that’s because they never gained as much exposure as they should have, post the childhood success phase. That’s partly through choice tho, they’ve sort of kept on the down low for years. it’s their 30th anniversary soon and they’re still only in very early middle age. If the Rolling Stones are the benchmark for longevity there’s a lot of time left!

Singer myself, and damn, this is impressive . Got the pitch from that single piano note before he walks over, they stay locked in tempo wise , nail the harmonies AND 2 modulations . I remember when these cats came out and all the guff they got , but me and my jaded musicians friends all said "That's one catchy , well written song . These kids are legit." I am glad they stayed active all this time and still have enough draw to do shows like this, they deserve it. That's nothing but hard work and talent up there.

Another thing about Mmm-Bop is that it was written by 10, 12 and 14 year old kids. The songs by other boy bands were written by veteran industry songsmiths yet the pre-pubescents said a LOT more in their song than any of the hits by NKOTB and their stripe. Mmm-Bop won't win a Pulitzer for its lyrical content but was far deeper than its competition.

I remember I attended a Hanson concert back in 1998 at the Key Arena in Seattle... at the same time, Metallica was performing at a neighboring venue. The Metallica fans were yelling insults at the people heading to the Hanson concert, making fun of them, stealing their homemade signs and tearing them up, it was so sad. Now as an adult, it makes me wonder what the band members of Metallica would have thought of that behavior.

They play smaller venues now. I’ve been to 10 or more Hanson concerts and they have all been packed. Many fans who grew up with this band, and have listened since the 90’s, have stuck by Hanson. I’ve loved them since age 11. I bought both their pre-fame albums a long time ago and have never regretted paying $325. They were amazing then, and they’ve only aged like fine wine.

As a musician I never doubted their talent from the beginning, even when everyone pigeonholed them as nothing more than a pretty boy group. It took maturing into handsome and talented young gentlemen and lots of live touring to convince the world that they're the real deal. This, however, is mindblowing, even compared to everything else I've seen from them. Never seen this video before and it only got randomly recommended to me by KZread today. Played it three times so far. Thank you, Nicole, for capturing this wonderful moment. ❤

There truly is something about sibling harmony. After hearing Girl Named Tom on The Voice-USA, they are 2 brothers and kid sister whose actual name is Bekah, but they do address it after their audition. Their harmony on everything they sing is so tight, just like Hanson. These young adults are living proof that rock and roll will never die!

His words to me walking out that night were, "I've never heard or saw anyone put on a better show than those 'girls' before." He knew they were guys, but the long hair times he had to tease me. He was singing mmmbop right along with the other 5k plus screaming fans that night without missing a beat. Their music saved my life when he passed. My daughter's name is Alice Lucille.... Being a dedicated Hanson fan for 24 years, reading your comment really warms my heart. 💓 Hanson have so much talent to offer. And yes, they are kind people too. They have been making music since 1992. And even though they are not in the mainstream world anymore, still, they make great music independently. They can still sell-out shows from a small, yet tight community of dedicated fans. Hopefully, they would gain much respect from the music industry, now that they have joined The Masked Singer as Russian Dolls. I can't wait for that to happen. 🙏💖
